People who know about motorbikes/motorcycles and everyone else too
When people on motorbikes rev the engine really loudly in the middle of traffic, is there any purpose in this? It just seems like they're doing it to let everyone know that they have a big powerful bike and perhaps be a bit intimidating.
Think you might have nailed it there tbh tbf...
probably to keep the revs up
to keep the enginge respnsive so they can pull away quick.
motorbikes run at higher revs than cars do, don't want them stalling on you in traffic.
I only have a scooter though. cars were being proper bastards to me this morning - farmer in a land rover was ramming me towards the inside lane going round a roundabout. i shit you not. what a fucking prick. Also, white van man pulling in to the middle of the road to block me off from overtaking. 3 other things happened like that this morning as well. I swear it's not me.
why do they need to pull away so quickly and bomb up the road though?
If you see a vehicle doing fully double the speed limit in a built up area...
...it is always, always a motorbike isn't it.
Mostly yes.
It also happens when someone makes a mistake, like stalling, then they pull off in big huff to look really cool. BROOM BROOM.
no
no it's not.
only 1% of road vehicles are bikes. I find it's almost always teenagers or paunchy business men flexing their small-cock compensations.
I disagree...
...while you might see cars getting up to 45 or even 50 in a 30mph zone it's only ever bikes that will be getting up to proper crazy speeds, I guess because they have the necessary acceleration to do so. Most pointless is when it's in the 200 metres between two sets of traffic lights.
well, they would have the acceleration to do it
but it probably is still 50 though. they would look and sound like they're going faster than they actually are.
Not that I'm disputing what you've seen.
I don't see very many bikes do this at all, in Brighton.
Do you live in London? higher chance there I expect.
to get away from
cunting car drivers.
and because that's the fun of having a bike.
people driving a mercedes slk and a porsche 911 tried to race me off some traffic lights on differnet occasions - both times even on my 125 vespa I still got off the line faster than them.
I think these men (for they are always men) feel slighted about bikes filtering down and sitting in front of them in the bike box so they try and be dicks about it.
I can't say I've noticed people on scooters acting the goat as much
it's more people on motorbikes.
it's because they're nowhere near as powerful
125-150cc versus 600+ it's a big difference.
Also - apologies for my aggressively defensive tone. I had a rough morning on the road
It's like you're posting while riding a motorbike
thank you
for providing me with the forum to vent spleen on. Got it out of me now.
utter rubbish m8, about "keeping the engine responsive"
and scooters are for twerps :)
I used to do this because my bike idled too low, and would cut out if I came off the revs.
It was really annoying when it did, especially in the cold (most of the time).
If I was filtering through stationary traffic I'd keep it revving fairly highly and it always helped to let motorists know I was coming through to avoid them pulling out on me during last-minute lane changes without indication.
But yeah, I imagine there's some dicks who just rev it because they think it sounds good and for some attention.
I always do this
when filtering. It may scare people or annoy them, but at least they know you are there and not pull out on you.
motorbikes are cool just deal with it square
*does a wheelie*
POTD
Nomination.
was driving through the yorkshire dales and scotland last summer
and I came to the inescapable conclusion that bike drivers are tossers. Just constantly trying to overtake in the smallest possible spaces and pulling in right infront of you to avoid oncoming traffic.
Worst are the ones who go around in packs. Its like some bunch of five year olds who show up at your door and ask if you're riding bikes today.
Biker nod
to all the bikers in the thread
