Keep it to age limit of 60.
I'll start with Steve Irwin.
at my age at the time i just couldn't comprehend how that could happen
mournfully reflecting on a worthy adversary lost.
someone please shoot me.
inehouse, Ian Curtis etc
probs the only two that have made me *feel* sad, as opposed to just thinking how sad it was, if you see what I mean.
but for seamus heaney (i know that's breaking the 60 year old limit in OP but still)
Couldn't explain it. I was devastated.
Eerie as fuck that he was on national TV hours before and seemed... y'know, alright. Young family. Doing well in the Wales job. Seemed like the NICEST chap. Found hanging in his garage. Just couldn't comprehend it. Still can't.
Think it was exacerbated by almost everyone in response seeming teary and confused in equal measure by reaffirming just how nice a lad he was. Occasionally you have moments where the silent cruelties of existence just hit you. Think that was one of them.
Very saddened by that
you got the knot tied pretty quickly then?
I think Peel's death still made me saddest.
I wasn't a Peel obsessive. But it was like losing your cool uncle who understands you.
Are you also a semi-paedo?
He'd always reminded me of my uncle who died a couple of years before him
but i just didn't think of peel as "old"
What a fool i looked a few days later though
probably saddened me the most.
Nelson Mandela was sad but expected, and MCA was sad as Beastie meant so much to me but just felt closer to the individuals above. Can't really explain why.
Maybe because he just always look so young/angelic like he was always a boy.
Think it was because he had an air of invincibility about him. He got diagnosed with cancer and I was like `Ah, he's Paul Hunter... he'll be reet`. And then he started playing snooker again and I was like `Ah he's blasting through the chemo, he'll be back at his best in a couple of years I reckon`. And then he died. 27 years old. Genuinely blindsided me.
Sad also that he was only just getting started. Had the temperament and the quality to win a few World Championships did Hunter. Definitely would've won at least one by now. Such a shame.
Mark Speight (the Scratchy & Co guy) committed suicide. I used to watch him on CBeebies with my lad and he always came over as a really funny, happy guy. To see someone like that reduced to being unable to continue with life was so tragic
Shit thread, thanks
I suppose since I grew up watching The Fresh Prince and had not really seen him in anything other than this (and Uncle Phil was such a great character) it was a shock to find out Uncle Phil was no more.
but then I was a kid and he was a dead exciting New Labourite everyone in the pub loved because he'd come to propel our football club to heights many had never previously considered achievable (i.e. anything above 11th).
A proper celebrity? Meh. I know it's sad when they die, but that's it- I know it. I don't feel it.
took the next day off school when Harding died. Think her family went into proper mourning over it.
Seemed like he would of been a genuinely nice bloke as well
He probably wasn't that well known outside of the music world, but when the news broke I was completely devastated. Far too young for such a talented musician.
He is the first musician I properly liked (like not just a casual listener, but a proper fan who buys all the records and goes to the shows) and seen many times that has died. Was listening to SVIIB the other day and got a bit teary.
Urgh. Utterly. still am.
pwopah lost it.
elliott smith, jeff buckley, vic chesnutt, james gandolfini, john candy all good candidates.
Was watching Over The Edge 1999 on Sky Box Office one minute, the Blue Blazer went WOOOOOOO and then was due a match and then they cut away and then 30mins later we were told he had died :(
and they're both devastated is hard
big mark henry tearing up :'(
In a very different way obvs
Was quite a big F1 fan as a wee lad. Remember when Ratzenberger died and I was like WHAT! then Senna went the next day and I couldn't comprehend it, it just didn't seem fair. One of those deaths where it really took a while to sink in, I kept expecting the news to announce that they'd made a big mistake and he was fine.
she was quite an iconic actress in a way and her death seemed to be completely out of the blue.
but he didn't die so doesn't count I guess.
as with PSH, just wanted him to keep being excellent in films.
to both. Really tragic.
Brittany Murphy also as she was pretty young and it was a freak occurrence.
kom så drenge! :'''''''''''''''''''(
I felt really guilty because I thought about contributing to his medical fund loads but never did :( admired him so much too
was really heartbroken when i found out - havn't had that before or since with a celeb/famous death
the actor who played todd in suddenly susan. had got into a habit watching it every morning on channel 4, probably read on teletext or something that he had killed himself. I remember leaving reading festival to get the first train back so I could watch the episode where they addressed his absence (handled in a really nice way).
Lorne form angel, because he was so awesome.
