Yeah, I hate Reggae too. All of it.
you're a bad man.
I like reggae reggae sauce
I think it's spelt raggae
a) people didn't get the subtle joke in this thread
b) that joke isn't funny anymore.
so doesn't really work either way
My 'joke' was based on the fact that Morrissey famously said (though not famously enough it seems) that "reggae is vile". The link in the OP was to a horrendous reggae cover of a Smiths song.
I then piggy-backed on this by saying that no one laughed because "that joke isn't funny any more", which is the title of another Smiths song.
not what i thought the joke was at all
You if all people should know that nobody clicks links
He later rescinded his comment and resurrected the Attack! reggae label when he brought out You Are The Quarry.
what do i win
not a bad cover though cheers CG
Always thought some actual smiths songs already had a slight reggae lilt to them
Who seemed alright. Just chatting, nice guy. Then he said that his favourite music festival was something in Europe that was like 9 days straight reggae on a beach somewhere.
often culminates with someone's older brother putting on a Wailers album. Find stuff like glitch techno gets you a lot more 'in the zone'. Reggae just makes my brain turn to sludge (which may be some people's goal, granted)
and I've been under the impression that that (brain turning into sludge) is the point of it, hopefully wrongly.
than listening to reggae when really stoned
they grew up quite near me, quite a few of my friends knew them
What sort of music nerds are you? Without record collections we're just Nuts readers.
You have to have a southern temperament to enjoy it... nobody north of Bristol should find themselves ever listening to reggae and enjoying it.
It also seems its the default protest music for europeans... all leftist youth i knew when I was in france loved reggae and associated it with anti-establishment stuff, but I just don't get it, it's not in my blood.
If I wanted sweet vocal harmonies I'd listen to some early soul or something.
of the West would have been taken if reggae* had never existed. All those dreadlocks, dub-techno and spliffs certainly never helped the causes.
*= OK, technically ska is to blame since it is the original form of the genre, but you get my drift.
(actually don't mind the clip though, and can live with reggae itself)
the show Cops.
then somewhere down the line in the same with somebody came up with the idea that the form of pop music spoke to something essential about love or whatever. Same thing happened with reggae where somebody figured out it could sell better if they associated the form itself with saying something special about... i dunno... chillin'? Smokin' doobs? A certain solipcistic yet rebellious and collective way of living?
that song of his about weed is like a pan-european anthem for jobless 20 somethings
WORSE THAN REGGAE
about middle class white kids from western mainland europe adopting the aesthetics of protest and struggle and applying them to their own trivial battles like "people won't let me play loud music all night" and "people won't let me spray paint wherever i like". someone smarter than me has probably written about it already tbh.
there's a french white dreadlocks guy at my new office. he's far too lovely to be annoyed about though.
