ketchup - always heinz
beans - see above
we've done this thread before eh?
i agree with that statement. i used to get the sainsbo's own brand. scratch that.
it's more absorbent, and when you fold 1 sheet of kitchen roll over twice (so that its bog roll size) its sheer decadence.
Deodorant (usually buy whatever's on offer but NEVER own-brand)
Warburtons or Hovis, always.
Although Tesco's soft cobs are wonderful
that were pretty decent
Grafen Walder (Lidl) = perfectly acceptable premium pils.
Lowenstein (Aldi) = Not dissimilar to Heineken, quite good in fact.
items that I will ALWAYS buy own-brand
for a fraction of the price.
My cat turns up his nose at anything that isn't Wiskas
cats are dickheads
But I've noticed that when she eats whikers senior her hair is all silky and smooth and when she has anything else it goes all coarse and malts loads
cos i'm not* an insecure/gullible/needy snob.
(*i am, but it didn't manifest itself in terms of consumables branding. except for printer ink.)
Sainsbury's beans tasted really weird, almost tasted off to me. I kind of like the variety you get with own brand beans, it isn't the end of the world if they aren't that great. They are only beans, it is not like Heinz are extra amazing or anything, it is more that other brands aren't quite as good. I will eat pretty much anything own brand, Aldi and Lidl do good beers, Tescos French stubby lagers are good. Own brand washing powder, bog roll, nappies - all good.
I do prefer however:
Ketchup - Heinz
Mayonnaise - Hellmans or Heinz
Mushy peas - Batchelors
But again some substitutes are alright, Lidl peas are nice. Some people get really hung up on buying branded medicine. Surely paying £3+ for Nurofen when it contains exactly the same ingredients as a generic 25p pack of ibuprofen is just nuts?
No difference at all between e.g. a Tesco antihistamine and a Glaxo one
weird how boots own brand medicine is so expensive, if I am going to pay that much I will go for a mega brand for added placebo effect
Tinned tomatoes / passata / tomato puree
Herbs and spices
Agree with beans, ketchup, deodorant, mayo etc.
Gravy has to be Bisto.
Think I'm just a real baby about toothpaste
budget batteries are a terrible false economy
£1.25 for 10 i think, last for ages
But batteries are so cheap these days that everything seems to work, I mean you can get 4 sony batteries for a quid nowadays
Own brand coco pops just aren't the same
when I realised Asda's basics sandpaper had given me haemmeroids
Andrex is like having your bottom kissed clean
Who wants to eat 'Yeast Extract'?
but then even Paxo is pretty shit. Own brand pork stuffing beats all the packet stuff.
but theres always more of the stuffing dust than there is the chunks.
I like to eat stuffing mix with a spoon
But Tesco now do a serviceable blackcurrance high-juice.
the quality decreases exponentially with decreasing price.
£2 = fine
99p = water with a chunk of creamy white stuff at the bottom which could be anything really
could really do with a nice tall glass of coconut milk now
it just moves the chunk of white stuff around the can
In fact, most fizzy soft drinks. Stick your generic orange crush where the sun don't shine, I want Fanta.
dont know if they still do it but sainsburys classic cola was good, better than pepsi but not quite as good as coke
It might rot your insides, but what refreshment!
