The problem is that (white?) society has made it seem more and more that being 'racist' is the same as being a member of the Ku Klux Klan or a fully signed up BNP activist skinhead.
There are degrees to racism and it's problematic that we have no space to say, "Yeah, that was racist, and I totally didn't intend it, and you understood that, and hopefully I'll be able to move on from this and learn..."
