I'd say Usual Suspects twist of who Keyser Soze was...
genuinely surprised by that
don't know but i'll use this thread to talk about the Prestige.
I've recently read an interesting interpretation that reckons that the cloning machine doesnt really work, it was just wolverines final trick on batman after batman sent him on the tesla wild goose chase. I think if this was true it would make it a much more satisfying film (I like the film as it is but thought the actual magic twist didnt quite fit) and would work well with the the whole pledge/turn/prestige thing they keep going on about, and the unreliable author perspectives they use. Sadly I just don't think there is enough to support that interpretation. Nolan missed a trick there.
with loads of dead Wolverines.
For obvious reasons most of that was cut out of the film to prioritise the plot and characters. It's a shame that it can leave such a bad taste as a result.
so in the book is it implied that it is deception?
seems like it wouldnt have taken much to have it like that in the film, tesla and his associates seemed like con men, if they just hadn't shown the bodies near the end the supernatural stuff could have just been wolverine writing false entries in his diary he knew would be read.
As it is it really doesnt work, jackman being tricked into traveling across the world and then finding tesla could actually make a machine that does that, seems a bit messy
the setting of the book is a London that's much more credulous and superstitious, with people believing and 'proving' ghost stories, magic, folk stories, rumours, crackpot inventions, religion etc etc.
Nothing in the book is interrogated scientifically, as such - or at least, things that we now understand to have scientific, rational explanations and things that we now understand to be fanciful frauds are treated in the same manner.
If means that what is the final reveal in the film reads as less of a cop-out while still being as horrific.
Who could the Dread Pirate Roberts be?
you know, when he says 'as you wish' at the end
where delgado's alsatian sons find out why he REALLY abandoned them as pups. OH BOY, I nearly fell off my seat.
(also, i should probably watch the film).
He's a ghost!
She's a fella!
It's a sledge!
It's Keyser Soze!
a highlight being Mark Wahlberg shouting at a fake plant
did not think Mahoney was going to graduate
