realreal shame... R.I.P
Fuck. Fucking hell.
RIP, great actor.
Made some incredible films and was always the best thing in whichever film he was in.
This is one of my favourite scenes ever scenes and the first thing I can recall seeing him in:
Big fan of his, so many great performances. Loved him in the big lebowski.
too gutted even to make a proper linguo reference
Synecdoche, New York
Before The Devil Knows You're Dead
Charlie Wilson's War
Forgetting loads here, I know, but he was unequivocally THE BEST THING about all of these. :(
Again, best thing in it.
was there a hoax that has now turned out to be true in the end, or what?
This is just some weird linkbait thing - there is a page like this for hundreds of actors, so when they actually die everyone goes clicking on this site. Just ignore it innit.
fucking gawker comments
might have to do a little PSH retrospective this week.
was just thinking about how great this scene is the other day oddly enough: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vBoIPm5vEX4
with the quote about how the person who finds how to live without a master will be the first to do so. So many subtly brilliant moments in that film.
fucking great actor
don't really remember him in anything else. RIP
Amazing in The Master especially.
he's done loads of good stuff, punch drunk love is a top 5 all time movie for me.
this is just so fucking shit :( best actor of his time, and he still had so much time to make this undisputable. I know he won an Oscar, but I don't know.
so much left to offer the world.
He's completely brilliant, even in rubbish films. And he didn't pick very many of them. This sucks.
so weird, was just talking about what a great actor he was
Would often watch a film just because he's in it and there's few who have that kind of influence on me.
Really really sad. He will be sorely missed. :(
Given his part was getting bigger and bigger.
Was still filming the second part
so I'd imagine they'll be able to re-write around it - they're shooting pretty early for a Dec 2015 release.
so sad, one of the best our generation had
it's going to be really hard watching Synecdoche, New York again, especially.
Supremely talented actor, improved every single film he was in.
RIP, though. Superb actor. Enjoyed many of the films he was in and he was, rightly, regarded very highly.
Pretty dark to watch considering. Really sad news.
and I think a lot of people are saying this, including on this thread, that don't just go saying it every time someone famous dies, before their time or not.
we were in for another 30 years or so of him turning in increasingly great character studies and performances. He could have ended up as one of the true greats (already a great though, I think). And of course, goes without saying, even more importantly that he'd live a long and healthy life for himself, friends and family.
We take too much for granted. This is just another cruel reminder.
Was an... ACTOR... that I expected to see in all sorts of great and interesting films in x-amount of years to come.
Came from nowhere. Seems like Hollywood is full on brutal.
specifically with heroin, had been very serious in the past, and it had been reported that he'd lapsed back into addition again in the past year or so.
I think people have a lot of affection for him because it was obvious that he got to his level on his talent, rather than his looks or marketability, because he made interesting choices in terms of the roles he took on and the directors he worked with, because you felt that his would be a long, high achieving career that wouldn't be subject to the vagaries of fashion or hype, and because he played so many supporting, rather than leading roles, before he made the step up in public consciousness.
He never picked a role that wasn't interesting, and never featured in a film that wasn't worth watching, often on the strength of his performance alone.
Top actor and yeah, everything you said, really.
by the death of someone famous. Absolutely awful. I'm genuinely gutted.
normally when someone dies and everyone's going on about how marvellous they were you're like "hmmmm, right". But this genuinely was someone who attracted the same levels of praise when he was alive.
Same age as me.
When a celebrity dies early there is often an over-the-top reaction to their passing: this time all of the tributes are fully warranted. What a sad way to lose one of the great talents of his (my) generation. What an utter waste.
Just so so sad
always thought he was older
it's the knowing he could have gone on to be in the pantheon of all time greats that is the hardest thing to take i think
he was just getting better and aging so perfectly, moving on from all of the sweaty creeps he used to play (amazingly) to charismatic middle aged patriarchs and stuff. just such a loss to cinema
