Transfer deadline innit. I'll leave it to adybongo.
for millions of pounds only to immediately loan them out this transfer window. Whoever it is who handles that sort of thing has finally woken up though, thank fuck.
Can I ask you football fans how much actual 'joy' you get from supporting your team? Like, can you measure it only in minutes?
For 30 minutes after you win a match?
And probably twice as long when a rival team loses, am I right? (I had a friend who stopped being as big an Ipswich fan when he realised he got more joy from Norwich losing.)
I only ask because when I skim these threads it seems that absolutely EVERYONE is convinced their team is complete dogshit and has no chance. You all read like a fucking field of Eeyores, for fuck's sake.
and get absolutely no joy from it
Didn't your team hand Arsenal their backsides in the first match of the season or something?
Villa are still well on course to become First Match of the Season Champions.
But surely that must have provided SOME joy? SOME!
It's a rare, often short lived, joy
it's easier/more fun/realistic to be down on your teams chances because when they win it is a far more satisfying. Hence anti-bants. Don't ask me WHY I watch it every week though, I've no idea really.
Every time I go to watch the Wales national team for example, I find myself thinking after about 10 minutes "why the fuck have I spent money to sit/stand in the rain/cold to watch this shit?", yet I know full well that come the next game I'll still pay to go along to be in the same place thinking exactly the same thing.
I enjoy the away games more, but that's probably as much to do with the fact that it's a trip away than anything directly to do with the football.
In short, it's not rational, to be honest.
keep up, Theo
Don't you get tired of just assuming your team's going to fail?
when they succeed it makes it that much better. You've read kik posts on here, right?
I'll start the bidding at 5.
"I have seen him a few times and he is not bad at all. Over the last couple of years he has looked really good when he has played for his country."
Like bollocks he's seen him.
But those were Gusev and Yarmolenko. Can't remember ever seeing Konoplyanka.
I wasn't planning on checking, you've done yourself there.
I reckon he's probably not bullshitting in this case.
But how on earth are City able to keep stockpiling new players at £20-30m a pop without flogging a few first? Getting their stadium sponsored for £400m by themselves can only go so far, surely?
It's £40m a year over 10 years for shirt, stadium and campus and actually is beneficial to the company as it'll serve as a centre for their European operations as well as later being part of a massive leisure complex too.
In the short term we've actually circumvented FFP by some shady deals between us and Melbourne City and NYCFC. Stick that up your bollocks Platini!
I imagine on loan with a permanent option and we'll almost certainly sell Lescott to West Ham or Everton before the end of play. That must be something like £280k a week of the wage bill straight up with the two coming in on lower performance based wages as Txiki's new way of structuring the deals.
fifa aren't gonna do owt
It's likely to be tested in the next season or two, definitely by PSG and likely by City. Chelsea will probably slip through the vertically plummeting tomb door, Indiana Jones-style, this monitoring period by virtue of being vulgarballed up for longer.
Basic stuff to keep in mind though is that FFP is not about real finances at all- loads of losses are exempt and it only really cares about the books, which don't always/ever have much to do with what clubs have or don't have in the McDuck vaults. The likes of Chelsea and City will be very pro-FFP. They don't want another new money billionaire making life harder for them.
I don't give a fuck about FFP
Just thought it good manners to give you one back
They can't look into the Etihatd deal as it's not a related party deal legally, even if it is a de facto one, and the associated party sales is market value even if we have bought them from ourselves. Basically better lawyers and accountants were always going to out manoeuvre FFP.
Our deals are a long way off the insanity of that PSG one and we also have the increase in TV money to factor in and then the greater CL money next year.
Not sure where we're finding a spare 40m to go and buy Mangala and Fernando unless they're just using next summers transfer budget now.
and that they'll probably (Platini) be okay with the PSG one as well. PSG and City will be the first clubs whose revenues they need to look at but I don't for one moment think they'll fail them.
I also think there's a good chance that other clubs - including Chelsea - who've been on the gravy train longer and can afford to wait a while to see how UEFA react to PSG and City will be signing on-the-face ridiculous sponsorship and stadium-naming deals as soon as they know it's safe to do so.
Mangala must still be on only his second or third senior contract- the upfront cost will be big but he won't have had many wage increases yet so City can give him a deal that looks huge to him but is tiny by their standards. Probably 'better' in accounting terms to have £30m-odd amortised over a 5 year contract by a player earning £40k or so than it is to have a player earn £100k a week.
We didn't declare it as a related party deal when we filed our accounts with the auditors from the UK and the FFP criteria for related party deals is lifted directly from from international accountancy standards, IAS 24 or something.
We're privately owned by the Sheikh who doesn't have any executive or non executive seat on Etihad airways, who have a board that all deals have to be passed by. As such by their own standards UEFA can't decide whether it's fair value unless they want to change the standards they have already set in which case I imagine it's courts time.
No idea whether PSG are owned by the state or not, if they are and the company is also owned directly by the state then that's a related party transaction and they would have to decide whether it's fair value.
Like contracts signed before a certain time don't count, or money spent on community projects being offset against your losses. And the get-out to end all get-outs, that you can basically be let off if UEFA decide that you're 'heading in the right direction'.
Interesting how big a payout Bobby Mancini got though.
don't count apparently
So City are alright.
It's all bollocks. Wait until QPR have to be some stupid fucking fine after getting promoted and we just take them to court and it's declared pointless. I dunno. Personally, I'm dead against us just splashing money around like it's not a real thing. No idea where it comes from.
That said, the Mittal family just knocked out 150 odd million quid on a wedding in Spain a few months back. Doubt they give a fuck about any losses QPR incur.
it's transfer deadline day for fucks sake
Does that mean KiK will be back soon? Or is he already and I missed that?
nor any "hilarious" alt accounts (which he spent much of his time arguing with and loudly deriding) for ages. strange.
quite like it tbh
but jordan's got better. Swings and roundabouts innit.
of acting-like-a-dick video clips, and then not released them all at once. no way i'd have the self-control. the impression i got at the time was that Keys and Gray had been absolute shits to most underlings in general at Sky for years. feels like continuing commupance eh
What you got against them?
Great bunch of lads.
potentially the worst deadline day ever and there's still 13 hours to go
Or is it just that no one cares?
Richard Keys offers little to please
Forgot that the first 17 hours of deadline day is players from lower league clubs going on loan to lower lower league clubs.
Macclesfield (Conference) loaned a player to Oldham (going for play-offs in League One). That's kind of interesting, isn't it? Mostly just to indicate what a shambles last season was for Macclesfield in terms of transfers.
Can't stand his style of football, but Pulis really has done a grand job for them, hasn't he?
In his 11 matches in charge, only Chelsea have conceded fewer goals (with five 1-0 victories amongst them), no one seems to have noticed them climbing up from being adrift in the bottom two (by some margin) to being not that far from mid-table mediocrity.
If they sign Ledley and Ince and carry on as they are, surely a candidate for Manager of the Season given the bloated they were in not too long ago under Ian Holloway?
I think I started the bandwagon on this one about 3 weeks ago, for the record people*. It's a new addition to the topics of conversation and opinion I hold, which are for future reference:
1) Things to do in and around Forest Hill
2) How hard it is to buy a house
3) The pros and cons of freelancing
4) Pulis' Palace record
* I also got in two Palace defenders the day he took charge for my FF Team, given his record at Stoke. I'm basically amazing.
5) why does nobody ever tell you the TRUTH about babies?
but they didn't really look bad? i mean nowhere near as bad as West Ham or Norwich.
Employed by lower league Premier League side > Keep them up > Spend £30 million in the summer > Keep them up > Gets fired > Employed by lower league Premier League side > Keep them up > Spend £30 million in the summer > Keep them up > Gets fired > Employed by lower league Premier League side > Keep them up > Spend £30 million in the summer > Keep them up > Gets fired > Employed by lower league Premier League side > Keep them up > Spend £30 million in the summer > Keep them up > Gets fired > Employed by lower league Premier League side > Keep them up > Spend £30 million in the summer > Keep them up > Gets fired
that anyone who was lucky enough to have Palace scheduled during the Holloway period essentially got a bonus three points.
for fucks sake. feel so sorry for him.
He'll be fine. Not like every other one of his toes has just fallen off.
with the warchest why is Arsene not buying some players?
I know that Palace had some players they couldn't register this season due to having such a big squad. Can clubs swap a few shit ones for better ones in this week only?
They already had Puncheon and someone else so couldn't loan whoever else they were trying to loan. Was it Ince?
one of them called holloway out on twitter
they signed from France and he came over, stayed in a hotel that apparently he was made to pay for - then they just didn't put him in their 25-man squad. Wasn't a lot of outcry over it, but it's a sorry state of affairs.
to loan in joe mason. Oh and we might sell Mark Davies and LCY too
Strap your self in, the Babelcopter might be landing at your club today.
Watch out QPR.
(loan until the end of the season)
£3m, three-and-a-half-year contract
Bridcutt is excellent
will start when the emergency loan window reopens
expecting little to no movement today
What happened to Marcelo Bielsa?
He went from being linked with every big club in Europe to pretty much nowhere. I know he had a disappointing year with Bilbao last season in the league, but they just let him go and that was that? No-one went for him? Why isn’t he linked with big jobs any more like COYS or whoever? Did he become rubbish all of a sudden?
To carry on Allardici's work with his 3-4-3 all out attacks system, finally turning Carlton Cole / Andy Carroll / Modibo Maiga into the continent's most feared front three.
You get a year of quality attacking football, a year of internal falling to bits and a huffy resignation at the end of it all.
So yeah, Spurs would be a decent fit for him.
Might still happen during the summer break.
Undisclosed fee, four-and-a-half year contract.
"I would imagine Ravel will be staying until I'm told otherwise."
They've been doing a covert "Don't try to stop me smee try to stop me" hawking of him since the transfer window opened
A television crew at the club’s Colney training ground asked Hoolahan if he was going to be leaving the club.
“I hope so. This is a fucking shithouse club.”
Had to to look this up to verify. I do like a bit of honesty from footballers.
Fully expect to see him forgiven to play the last few games of the season after no-one comes in for him.
maybe if he was better at football/not THIRTY-FUCKING-ONE...
it is a shame he is embarrassing himself like this because he's otherwise had a great career with us, but who the fuck does he think he is or that moving to Villa will really achieve other than going for a pint with BFFS Lambo & Grant #lovedmytime Holt
Tell me about them please.
Very promising pair of kids.
Michael is a centre back who had a brilliant loan spell at Leicester last year and has played and scored for England U21s a number of times, he's just opted against renewing his loan at Derby as he wasn't getting enough game time.
Will is a striker who is recovering from a cruciate ligament injury, Fergie was on record that he would have been a part of our first-team squad had he not got injured. Very hopeful that he could make it with us, quick, strong, intelligent runner and a good finisher.
Austin is up on bricks so we're relying on Johnson (constant yellow inj) and Zamora (shit)
If he can get fit and get a good amount of football I think Will Keane could score a lot of goals for you.
and got a sub appearance for the first team before he got crocked. real shame.
Mainly because I already had Robbie Keane and Jak Kean. Just need to get Roy in as assistant manager to complete the set. Story over.
has confirmed the signing of Aaron Hughes on loan. Colour me excited.
Some guy from Foolham
450 appearances for Fulham Aaron Hughes. Does anyone know what he looks like?
Wenger has just said about him that "it is 80/20 and I am confident we will be able to do something today"
ever seen him and Sean Adams in the same room together ?
Brilliant player. Can play AMC or FC but I think he works best as an AMC. Gets loads of assists but scores for fun as well.
CM 01/02 was an accurate representation of his ability, right?
if Cazorla was 4 or 5 years past his peak
and was Swedish
he was brilliant on champ manager
Wenger: "I say nothing is happening on that front. He will stay at Schalke"
Nothing in the history of life has ever made more sense
fellaine at man u --------------x-- Cattermole at stoke
is it just Arsenal that have absolutely infuriating parasites surrounding the club, who pretty much pretend to be fans but seize any opportunity to try to provoke negative feeling/CRISIS headlines about arsenal and wenger in order to gain publicity for themselves, or do other clubs have those sorts of cunts lying about as well, its just something you never hear about unless youre a fan of that club and you have a twitter account.
We're probably not signing Draxler this window. Apparently this means that Wenger's cowardly for not paying the fee Schalke wants for him, whatever it is. We've got money in the bank, so it's IRRESPONSIBLE for Wenger not to spend all of it because what's the point of having cash in reserve when we could buy Draxler with (this is a genuine argument someone has made).
Reason i get annoyed by these dickheads is that people like this have loads of influence and i can totally see there being a negative attitude among fans if the only player we sign is Kallstrom. Whereas I genuinely think the positive attitude after we signed Ozil has been a pretty big factor in us doing good this season.
(i never should've signed up to twitter)
but probably worse for Arsenal at the moment because our season is obviously about to collapse etc
They seem to have more melodramatic bloggers with loads of followers than any other club. You can find them for every club, but the Arsenal ones only seems capable of holding extreme views, whether they be positive or negative.
and can afford him he should go and sign him no ifs or buts.
he's a 20 year old who doesn't have a release clause. If we do things like that and they don't work out (because, y'know, he's 20 years old) then we'd pretty soon end up in financial difficulty. At the same time Wenger's job would probably be more in threat than if we do nothing.
Bearing in mind he'd be cheap on wages and if he's good will potentially be good for 10 years.
You're not going to compete for established superstars unless Madrid are having another brain fart and getting shut of one of their best players again, although this does happen pretty regularly. If Wenger does rate him though why not get him now because you won't compete for him in 2/3 years.
Also if Ozil was valued at 42 million after everything he's done and Draxler is valued at 37, it's pretty easy to understand Wenger's 'cowardness'.
when everyone can see the collapse coming, everyone can see the squad is stretched to the limit, everyone knows giroud is going to get injured on Feb 1st and everyone knows they actually have a shot at the title if they address the injury problems in a meaningful way. it's not like arsenal, and wenger, haven't been here before.
that's all we'll be able to do- the players to make us stronger, with the possible exception of draxler, aren't available, meaning we'd be signing players on 3 1/2 year deals basically to be cover for 6 months, after which we'd be able to sign far better players (and people pointing to last transfer window as proof that's not true miss the point. We've signed Ozil, which was a huge statement that means people like draxler actively want to come here).
My reading of the situation is not that Draxler is keen to move to Arsenal, or even keen to move at all. Or that Arsenal have a huge interest. It's that Schalke are desperate to sell now. They've done all the talking.
still, given the figures involved and the complication of the release clause it's far from easy to get that sort of deal done in january
it's not as if there actually are loads of players of an acceptable standard available. in january you either overpay for a out-of-favour player or try to get an out-of-favour player in on loan.
of course it's frustrating but it's impossible for arsenal to suddenly match man city or chelsea's squad depth with a couple of players in the january window.
better than playing a midfielder up front? which i'm sure has happened before. is it overpaying if it wins the title? does wenger even want a trophy that badly? idk i think there's a thing for gallant failure at the club.
arsenal signed plenty of those on deadline days of the past. park chu-young is still there ffs. overpaying won't win the title because winning the title will rely on a lot more than signing one or two players. new players need time to settle in and there's still no guarantee they'll even be any good.
see you all back here in 4 weeks for the arsenalLoLs.
Can't see it myself.
Chelsea blogs and fan sites tend to be insanely positive. Like I-was-off-my-face-on-E-when-I-wrote-this-blog positive. There's one two I've been banned from. My crime? Having the temerity to suggest Luka Modric wasn't going to sign for Chelsea, or that Man City actually had a really good squad and David Silva would get into our team.
how it often works is that dickheads like tim payton and le grove push their agendas for ever and ever, and occasionally actual journalists will see an angle through which to create a narrative to suit these people's agendas for hits/whatever. For example, the other day john cross said in the mirror that wenger wasn't prepared to pay the equivalent of Draxler's release clause this transfer window, which he said is what schalke asked for. He almost certainly wasn't privy to that information, as no one who has been reliably covering the thing has mentioned any fee demanded from Schalke at all. Yet he said it because he knew it would get those guys really angry and get loads of hits from the TWITTERSPHERE as a result. That certainly feeds into the psyche of real life arsenal fans.
How well Arsenal play? How Arsenal's management conducts their business? I don't really understand.
If shitty press was of any lasting consequence to football clubs, I'd not be such a cocky shit.
i know you deny all that sort of stuff, but i honestly dont think you would if you were an arsenal fan. It's been too crushingly obvious these past few years, and then pleasantly obvious the past few months, when our players were playing with visible joy in front of the home crowd for the first time in ages.
Why would it make any difference? Without wanting to be a dick, I interact with match going Arsenal supporters on a far more regular basis than you do. They strike me as fairly similar to all other football fans, and in particular those of bigger clubs- massively obnoxious big-time cunts when they've got even the slightest reason to be, woe-is-me cry babies at the drop of a slightly negative hat.
Could only accept that the atmosphere at the ground (and exclusively there- like fuck is the average Arsenal player or employee even aware of what someone is crying about on Twitter, never mind affected by it) plays some part in performance if Arsenal's players are exceptionally mentally weak.
Supporter mood is influenced by team performance, not the other way round.
that suggested a pretty clear correlation, with stadium atmosphere influencing home team performance. Not saying that study is 100% fact or even a particularly excellent study or anything but i dont think what youre saying is as obviously true as youre making out.
Besides, I think you're simplifying it, and in fact you'd need a sociological approach to be able to argue a case for or against. I.e the noise within the stadium is a discourse (and as we all know there is nothing outside the text) from which the players don't necessarily derive their conscious thoughts, but which is taken as part of the environment from which their individual ontologies derive their being as a re-existing phenomenon. In this sense therefore the psyche of the crowd is a part of the very foundation of their performance as footballers, and of their unconscious thoughts as such.
who do blogs about Arsenal, so yeah it's more a thing for you.
Smug fucking bellends the lot of them with umlauts above the o's on their names.
Loan until the end of the season
Could be wrong but the 2 or 3 times I saw him on MOTD I thought he looked pretty damn decent.
see you all back here in 4 weeks for the arsenalLoLs.
Respectable. Terrible quiz.
Shithole....this is a shithole. Didn't think it was gonna be like this.
€15 million, contract until 2018
thats a spicy meatball!
two signings already and Ryan Tunnicliffe & Larnell Cole having medicals
I didn't think it had been confirmed. We do need a back up keeper as if Speroni gets injured the backups aren't good enough standard. But £3m is ridiculous.
I also read the deal is worth £3million so I'm hoping that includes wages etc, or is heavily appearance based.
you'd imagine he'll go straight into the first team ahead of Julian.
Isn't Speroni out of contract at the end of season anyway?
I bloody love Jules though, I'd be gutted if he left. He loves the club and the area, he quite regulary volunteers in my local charity shop, and he has just opened his own restaurant quite nearby which I'm planning on going to.
didn't know about the restaurant...which one is it?
Failed his medical.
Our main target is Scott Dann, so I'd rather have him. Not too fussed about Ramis.
Fulham have another player called Moussa Dembele
That's about as interesting as deadline day has got for me so far
Loan until the end of the season.

Another one to add to the promising young players to be loaned out for the next 5 years before disappearing pile
£12 million, five-and-a-half year contract, loaned back to Saint Etienne until the end of the season.
guy who owns cagliari
League one soon. McDermott gone. jfc
Another to add to the list of things that the governing bodies will need to look at really
That this is an absolute joke.
Can anyone rival ridsdale, bates and this dickhead for owners? Unfortunate to have one that bad in your history, let alone 3 that bad in a 12 year period.
Lets just hope the fit and proper persons test actually does some good for the first time in its history
Football is so fucked
are you feeling OK today?
I ... erm ... Eh?
We're signing him as well apparently.
Whatever happened to him?
Exactly a year ago you were signing Samba and Remy to fill CB and striker roles. 12 months on, some unidentified man from Fulham and Doyle. I don't have a point, in case you were wondering if this was heading anywhere
yeah- I dunno either.
Don't think our CEO, PHillip Beard, has any idea whatsoever about what he's doing.
is a good signing. An out-of-form Doyle isn't going to get close to filling the Charlie Austin-shaped hole, though.
THIS IS AN OUTRAGE
He's meant to be first!
Undisclosed fee, 18 months.
Christ that beautiful boy is made out of fish fingers.
My feelings, in verse
It was a shame you were bad
Although when you grabbed Nasri
that was good
you did say dench too much
I'm sure even you would concede that point
is one of my favourite things I've ever seen in a football match.
Crikey, you know you guys went an entire season unbeaten right?
(of the market for deadline day signings)
take care big man. wonder if we'll ever have a player that tall again
Not a loan
Undisclosed fee, length of contract unknown.
Undisclosed fee, two-and-a-half year contract.
According to Sky Sports News reporter Keith Downie, who is at Sunderland's training ground, John O'Shea just drove out of the car-park, rolled down his window and shouted "WES BROWN TO REAL MADRID!"
It's one of my most cherished shit predictions
Downing to Carroll would be the most successful assist-scorer combination in the Premier League?
takes all sorts
they're just made up names.
£1.75 million, loan made permanent, contract until 2018.
although whenever you pop up in the arsenal section of the footy thread, it reminds me of when john infiltrates the away end in ID, just ripping his coat off and shouting "SHADWELL!".
and it had taken DiS a week to make it appear
Loan offer rejected.
him. Bit worried for Micah that he's finished to be honest, can't last 60 minutes let alone a run of games.
even more annoying is that kyle effing walker is the england right back because of this.
there's not enough competition for food in Greater Manchester. Expect him to be 18st by March.
"Jim White has just given Natalie Sawyer a bunch of flowers and kissed her on the cheek. What a showman! What a guy! What a world!"

that goes straight from Cobham to Arnhem, wherever the fuck that is
Swap rejected by Spurs
(I think Thorpe is actually the first kid from Manchester to leave on loan today, just wanted to get sniffy about something)
The worlds local team
Another LOCAL lad
no stars = doh
1 star = meh
2 stars = pffft
3 stars = ok, whatever
4 stars = well, well
5 stars = woohoo
This makes more sense.
not the player.
good thinking, I like this.
Ince ahead at the moment, but I fancy Hoolahan has got something up his sleeve to bust out before 11.
Every club should have a defined geographical area around it, and people born in that area can only play for that team. Like mini-countries.
Within 50 miles (though I think Celtic did it with everyone born within 10 miles of Parkhead?)
Took the mighty Huddersfield Town to the League Cup final. Heady days.
Think it was Alan Smith leading the lads out, with big John Stead knocking in the near post corners.
Oh bugger, I think I'm sensing a lapse back into FM again - been clean for a couple of years as well...
a few claws in his contract
Apparently he was Serie A's left-back of the year 2 years ago, so I think there's half a chance he might just be an upgrade on George McCartney.
£200,000, two-and-a-half-year deal
Chelsea have signed for Gary Goals, forever.
Anyone that can deliver against Wayne Rooney's cousin must be something special.
Deal fallen through on financial grounds, despite Martinez attending a work permit hearing (for Fernando, Mangala is French).

Reportedly in Monaco for his medical, no further news.
No signings this month, one loan signing in the summer. Never thought I'd say this, but can I be Joe Kinnear?
...who has only played in much slower leagues is exactly the help that Man City and Chelsea need!
Fuck it Liverpool might even finish 3rd now, cheers!
Let us not lose all reason now Owen. The third place bragging rights shall be ours
i'm guessing whoever's taken you on wants their own man in?
This club is cursed
with gianluca festa coming in to replace him
Undisclosed fee, three-and-a-half year deal
whilst we've opted not to do anything about the fact that our second choice anchor man is Martin Demichelis. You'd be foolish not to read it as a tacit yet graceful admission of defeat tbh tbf. One of the London clubs not winning it from here would be nothing short of the apocalypse.
does that mean Johnny Heitinga has joined Fulham? All will be revealed in the next hour..."
Fucking strap yourself in lads.
