How long can stuff like this go on?
So like lots and then some more.
Maybe in future they'll end up with an out and out deluded lunatic of a supreme leader that orders unproved attacks on China or something and that makes way for 'REGIME CHANGE'
judging by the last century we haven't really progressed in any meaningful way, so... Until we're extinct?
If you read Better Angels of our Nature by Steven Pinker, there's plenty of evidence that violent deaths of all kinds decreased worldwide through the 20th century. The problem is violent events are more likely to gain media attention than slow-changing positive processes. Look at AIDS; AIDS got far more media attention in the 80s when there were real fears there could be a species-damaging pandemic. We've made huge progress on HIV/AIDS over the last 15 years, but that's come from slow, incremental change that just isn't as dramatic to cover.
NK is obviously an appalling state, but it is one of a kind in its awfulness. No other country is totalitarian to that extent.
I don't think the Kim legacy will still be in charge by 2030.
There was a story going round a few weeks ago that the uncle was executed by being fed to ravenous dogs.
Kim Jong Il had his death (or imminent demise) announced many times.
As said above, the North Korean leadership is despicable, but that doesn't mean that everything is true.
i've always been of the opinion that what we hear/see about north korea is biased because it's a country that operates in a different format to the rest of the world. it would only be logical to try and destroy the idea if it's a threat to your power grip, because ideas spread rapidly and next thing you've got thousands descending on whitehall/the whitehouse demanding a socialist state.
