I didn't know the Trigger Happy theme music was an Elastica song. Also wish it was 1994 a bit.
(well, last week)
all in one day
a) a shameless rip off of other bands and b) brilliant.
Elastica can do what the hell they like with the work of a band who wrote "songs" about map references.
I demand to be associated with a better class of 90s mid-table indie band.
I imagine what it would have been like to be in my early 20's for the first wave of Punk. Having been in my early 20's for '94 in all fairness it was nothing too special. Oasis, Elastica & Blur, all good bands, but nothing groundbreaking. I'd probably be typing the same thing HAD I been in my early 20's for Punk about The Damned, Sex Pistols & The Clash. Reality is there's good stuff every year.
89 was better
89 was a great year. Possibly, subliminally, the Tiananmen Square thing and the only time in my life I've sensed via music any form of real sense of possible musical revolution or deeper. Not just the Roses, etc but a lot of hardcore stuff, Fugazi, Mudhoney, Public Enemy. It felt like things were coming together.
Sonic Youth, Beastie Boys, The Mondays, Loop, Dinosaur Jr, De La Soul, Slayer, Acid House, I could go on. Yes. '89 beats '94 some some distance.
Her biggest crime was going out with Dame Bar Albarn - the unsmiling twonk who takes himself so seriously, his pretentiousness could power a small village over Christmas.
He was well dreamy then. Still looking good now to tbh tbf.
backstage at Glasto '94
It doesn't even really look dated here imo:
She's like the Penelope Cruz of the rock world with a miles more ezz-eh personality
look at the fucking state of it
for the 1st ever gig they did outside of London; 1993, Manchester.
there were about 100 of us there including various members of Blur.
1993 was great yeah.
check the BBC sessions album if you haven't cause it's amazing.
not great really - but there you go
