I have one for times I'm in London, and whenever it runs out of juice (that's what the cool kids still say, yeah?) I end up standing for hours at the machine trying to work out how to load more money onto it; all while a lengthening queue of irate real Londoners sighs passive-aggressive over my shoulder.
thinly veiled "I've got 4 oyster cards" post
Don't worry, you're doing fine.
I'm getting a bit annoyed by forgetting to swipe in at optional places and getting charged 7 quid by swiping out at mandatory places.
Or on the DLR last week forgetting to swipe in and then getting a 40 quid penalty fine for 'fare dodging' at the other end. Humiliating.
Losing at the Oyster card system big time.
but if you can find the Oyster swipe in place at Stratford and then remember that location half asleep in the mornings you're a better man than I am.
My Get Me There
Pay all transport by touching your phone against the scanner. This has probably happened already.
or why so many under 26s don't have them linked to their railcards (though tbh they don't promote that very well)
on off peak pay as you go journeys on the underground, DLR and national rail.
Just go to a ticket desk and ask them to put your railcard discount on your oyster.
it is amazing how people don't know this. although it's largely irrelevant as it doesn't work at peak times
people might prefer having an oyster card that's not directly linked up to their bank account.
they'd end up spending far too much money by taking lots of rides on the DLR just for fun? Yeah, good point.
it makes no difference to me whether any of them are valid or not. Or how daft the deliberately false suggestions might make you look.
the real reason that people don't link their Oysters up to their bank account is that they're all man-children who want to 'manage their spending' because it's so easy to accidentally overspend on an oyster card. Just don't google the phrase 'credit card', it'll fucking terrify you.
wasn't one of the ones i was thinking of, though.
Maybe cos it's a bit of a hassle? Except it's not really, cos you just have to put in your card details on the internet. Maybe cos they're worried about losing the oyster card and someone else spending their money? Although it's really easy to cancel the card if you realise you've lost it, so you'd probably end up losing more money if you lost a unregistered oyster card. I dunno. I guess that people just don't like the idea of it more than anything. Which is a bit silly in my opinion, cos it's dead convenient.
I try an use my oyster sparingly and walk places, think if it was linked to my bank account I wouldn't have the will power not to use it all the time
I've lost 2 this month
i only ever had 2 in total. the last one lasted about 7 years
