being read out now
here's what's up for best picture
Good to see Alexandr Payne nominated though. Best Film will probably be 12 Years or American Hustle.
the Coens new film being totally snubbed too. And no Pixar film for Best Animated Film (though Frozen has that wrapped up probably anyway)
it's in a couple jobber catagories
unless it's got a face and a name i'm not interested
No foreign language nom for Blue is the Warmest Colour
Other than that as expected I reckon.
because france didn't choose it as it's official selection. Each country has one film they can submit, they chose Renoir. Did it before when they chose persefone over the divign bell and the butterfly (i think?)
it had to be released before september to be considered (if my brief scan of wiki is to be believed)
Not that it would have had a chance anyway - The Great Beauty is very good though, hope that wins.
let the hate flow through you
all the does is sob and have a southern accent
and how much was he paid? Christ, you coud just film a diser for an hour and get that.
criticism at it's highest degree here lads
At least June Squibb were nominated #teamsquibb
June Squibb is hilarious in Nebraska.
pleased to see Sally Hawkins get a nomination for Blue Jasmine, she's ace.
I would love the look on Bonio's face if they don't win best song.
Let It Go is likely to win there I think.
but my Oscars accumulator betting slip will be:
Best Film - 12 Years A Slave
Best Actor - Chiwetel Ejiofor
Best Actress - Cate Blanchett
Best Director - Alfonso Cuaron
Best Supporting Actor - Michael Fassbender
Best Supporting Actress - June Squibb
Squibb is the real gamble here. Anyone who's seen Nebraska able to talk about her chances? Lawrence won summat last year, 12 Years can't get both best supporting gongs, Hawkins won't win if Blanchett does, don't fancy Roberts...
do the Academy voters like old ladies swearing? That'll be the decider.
Alan Arkin won for Little Miss Sunshine
He should've. He was the best thing in it...
Probably Lawrence or Nyong'o
Might just have to chin the Supporting mob off the bet. The top four are nailed on.
Depends what the odds are I suppose. If a couple of 'em are a bit longer might be worth a punt. Otherwise I'll be collecting about 2 quid for the obvious ones and that'll be it. BIG WIN OR NOTHING.
Kermode's usually pretty on the money with his Oscar predictions. Might just stick £5 on my lot and £5 on his lot. OSCAR BETTING.
is a good outside bet. Sure, the story is average but it could get the 'Best Movie' award on the 'oh fuck I feel like I'm in space at the cinema' effects / feel alone. Amazing at the cinema and prolly crap on tele...
I don't care how good he might be in that role, surely being in 30 Seconds to Mars should disqualify him.
should it? Probably not
Judi Dench, Meryl Streep and Cate Blanchett finally getting some recognition in the category
Her or Amy Adams anyway.
Meryl Streep being nominated yet again - well that's the Oscars for you.
but if Amy Fucking Adams beats Blanchett and Ejiofor doesn't get best actor then there will be blood
what's your beef
but I thought her performance in AH was wooden and uninspiring, and her awful english accent kept taking me out of the moment. more importantly Blanchett's performance was a country mile better
her character is from New Mexico or whatever it was.
Blanchett is miles better, but it's not a complete disaster if she wins, she's missed out so many times
it's a film about performing, no one's going to question her accent in the world of American Gangsters, Politians and FBI Agents, she's direcently opposite "The Sheik". Anyway, her accent is good initially and it slips over time, think that's fairly clear tbh
it makes it clear when she spends the opening few scenes speaking in a broad american accent, and when they say she's from New Mexico.
she's about the only salvagable thing from that train-wreck
but if Sandra Bullock wins Best Actress, the Academy Awards organisation (whatever its called) might as well disband forever.
Allow me to be my own grammar pedant.
dependent on how many films meet the minimum votes threshold (I think)
It was a pretty exciting last few months for cinema.Watched Wolf on Wall Street last night, really great. When DiCaprio was in the golf club trying to make it back home was hilarious. The Popeye inspiration in the kitchen was glorious.
Might go this weekend to the one i can buy drink in
MATTHEW FREAKING MCCONnAUGHEY!!!!!!
I went into mourning when he married that woman who gave him children.
An oscar though? Mwaahahalololol.
(Bear in mind I have not seen any of the films mentioned in that link.)
and that film does look pretty good, he lost a stupid amount of weight for it cuz he plays an AIDS victim
I musdt see that. Is it out yet over here? (I am always so late to the party with film.)
he looks unbelievably good
He's emerged from rom-com purgatory and started making loads of really good films.
Tom Hanks, okay, I was gonna say Tom Hanks.
see even DiS knows he's rubs
a thinking man's Nick Cage
but you HAVE to have Facebook for some ungodly reason, anyway I'm largely going with Geoff, but with J-Law supporting actress
...but I dunno I get the feeling the Academy will be like `Look - Lawrence and her magnificent chebs won big last year and she's gonna bag fuckloads of these things over the next 40 years. Let's give it to that old bird in Nebraska instead`. Maybe.
still think Nyong'o is more likely though.
Deserves the award for the part where she tries to talk Solomon into [spoilers: redacted] alone. Breathtaking scene.
when did Bradley Cooper develop into a good actor? just thought he was hangover fodder. Then saw place beyond the pines in which he is great. and now the hustle!
or at least, he's in easily the worst/most dull part of the film, but I guess comparatively it's better than what he did before?
granted the corruption subplot is bollocks, but i think before and after that he's rather good. Not seen SLP yet tho, or Yank Nudge.
him and j-law are in another film together too, soon.
I just realised if I don't see you before the Superbowl you're going to spend the whole night venting your pent up anger for me and then we'd miss the game. Let's have a venting session
5pm, Sebright Arms.
I will try and come along (despite not drinking atm) for a bit after helping Jen's sister move into Halls in N.LDN
Bradley Cooper in American Hustle? doesn't .. seem so.
so how comes BC is not up for Best Actor too?
Should be in there. Michael B Jordan is amazing in that film. Amazed Captain Phillips is nominated, it's fucking shite.
