any of you want to contribute?
reviews, debate, opinion and shiz
The only current thing I've seen at the cinema is 12 Years a Slave, and I think the internet's reaching 12 Years a Slave discussion saturation point.
I actually meant will it be just current or current and older films.
as a) it's always nice to read/see about a film you might not know, b) it will give them, however small it is, SOME form of exposure and c) as you say, i think talking about the latest big releases has been done to death
beverley Hills Chihuahua 1, 2 and 3?
maybe 2 and 3 though? convince the fans to seek out hte straight to dvd versions!
I'll reserve judgement of said blog though till after i have read POs critiques of Beverley hills chihuahua 1,2 & 3! :)
write something about that
probably wouldn't fit, i'm afraid. See above ^ :( sorry.
though what might be nice is using said big name filums to point in the direction of other, lesser known ones. So like a 'if you like xxxxxx xxxx, then you might like xxx xxxx' kinda thing.
I watch a fairly wide variety of films tbh so I could probably write about a something a bit more niche. Like High School Record which I'm convinced no one has in the UK has actually seen despite it being brilliant.
something for people to read and go 'hmm, i've never heard of that before, i should probably check that out'. Just something different, basically.
I'll write down a short mission statement once i set it up, but films like HSR, if you believe they should have an audience, are part of that.
Similarly, i don't want everyone to be gushing in every single review - interesting doesn't mean perfection - just, you know, interesting.
think its got Beyonces sister in it. Instant classic.
in anticipation of teh release date of Beverley Hills Chihuahua 4 which I will happily review.
^love that quote
if no-one's doing one on Goodfellas yet
they're like threads on here that no-one reads
would be potentially quite interested in this
not very good at seeing new films at the moment so old stuff is suits me much better
i'm happy to edit (and as a word of warning i will fecking scythe copy if you send a short book in). When i get this in gear i'll send out a message to wannabe contributors about format, word-count, shiz like that.
(though if you edit anything so that it ends on an unstressed syllable I will go full Giles Coren)
i'll split your fucking infinitive, mate.
I had a film blog 3 years ago where I reviewed every single film I watched, no matter how rubbish or well known or if I only watched 5 minutes. Obviously, this very quickly got old, but it was a fun exercise. I'd be up for writing some old bollocks about stuff.
Great name for the blog.
always good to get ground-level interest.
IF i could ask if you're interested in writing could you send me a PM with your email in and, if you have one, an idea of what you want to write (doesn't matter if you don't at this stage). When i get this sorted i'll then send out a group email setting out in more detail what it is the blog is trying to achieve.
As an aside, in my research i've stumbled on this https://shootingpeople.org/calendar/index.php which looks like a pretty awesome guide to indie cinema happenings around the country. Gonna use it as a guide on what to see in the future methinks.
i want credit
of course it isn't going to be successful!
Would that count? not released anywhere except France and Korea as the rights owner wants it cut and director won't do it...
weinstein's grubby mitts!
yeah i think it would - assuming the cut happens.
might lend itself well to comparison with the cut version if/when it comes out in the UK too.
suggestions for names welcome as i've just turfed one up out of thin air.
thanks to those who've sent me their email regarding interest. Anymore are more than welcome. Hopefully get something doing in the last week of jan
Keep your dirty hands off.
but I'm still bitter after coming up with The Limey for HoFo and it never happening. HE PROMISED ME A PRIZE!
(SADP for short)
do you fancy writing for my film blog, too?
I can see it already. You're gonna be huge, kid!
got a website down and a holding page for now
name/look subject to change.
Thanks to those that have messaged. I'll send a group email around over the weekend with more detail and that.
might have a look see at some of these ones that didn't get nominated, if they're available, given that we're gearing up to the oscars
you can have that name if you ever do a blog about wrestling films, such as 'the wrestler' and 'beyond the mat'
or can a superplex only be performed on the turnbuckle, rather than any raised surface?
probably a better name too!
or let me review it ha
might pick another one out of the hat tonight.
looks batshit crazy
Watching as if I'm not there instead
why aren't you live blogging this
Housemate has come back, might nip to the offs and get booze. Fecking need one.
It's a good film btw
if you want, you should get involved :-)
i should probably add - people, still keep sending me your email addys so i can add you to the list if you want to be involved.
sent out the first email - just let us know if you have any questions
any other potential reviewers out there, just get in touch.
gonna be publishing first reviews next monday...just bumping this if any others want to have a go - if so, give us a shout and yr email.
get em in, champs. Also if you don't want to but have movies you would like to see reviewed, let us know
Let me know if this is too low brow and I'll go for something else.
as long as it's been neglected by audiences and multiplexes that's cool.
I think it's even been neglected by people who like Asylum films!
and tis a goody.
gonna be good this, folks.
just put "great film".
i'm gonna give this a daily bump this week if anyone else wants to contribute/remind you all :D
live in 6 days
gonna upload a random three on the monday, and then one per day/every other day after that. Great stuff so far.
think we got 5 (or 6?) in so far. Gurd sturf.
i fully expect to have given up within a week :D
(i won't have. Also, get involved!)
good reviews in, most of them edited and in the draft bit on wordpress waiting for me to press 'go'. hooray.
looking forward to seeing our first contributions!
i am doing it again this year i mainly watch kids films and really crap stuff like highlander v can i help.
A straight to sic if gem.
Yes, of course you can. Get in touch.
have returned the favour.
one more up in an hour. then some sporadically through the week.
any questions/issues with how i've edited let me know
love that film
makes me look like a WATCH FREE SPORTS ONLINE spambot.
This is the first time I have ever reviewed anything (in fact, the first time I have ever had anything 'published'): I feel a certain sense of pride and I'm honoured to be your first reviewer.
Great job on the edit
you did most of the work!
was so tempted to call NV's 'WARNING: Contains Spoorloos' but couldn't bring myself to do it.
I will only write about chick flicks though
and more than welcome. It's good to get as broad a range as possible. As long as they're ones unlikely to have been seen by a relatively wide audience, get involved!
should have given it more fanfare, tbh!
always welcome new reviews and new reviewers. Got about 5 or 6ish in the pipeline, which is a healthy number. Any film you think didn't get the audience it merited. Just pm me or use the email addy on the blog. Ta x
1970s zombie classic. With Manchester in the title. Set in the lake district. made by Spain/Italy. YES
don't know what happened there. Sorry sloame!
good stuff sloame ocean
added you a link from my blog, prob wont make much diff but all the same, good luck.
glad you like and thanks again for the support :)
next reviews on monday. Unsure if one or two, yet.
note to wwwo, severed and others - been rushed off my feet the last week, so had a chance to look at your reviews properly yet. Will be up soon though, promise!
again - really sorry about lack of contact, i know i have a good number of reviews to get to and emails to reply to. Just way too busy at the minute. Hopefully things will be calmer tomorrow and i can get it sorted. Sorry! And please keep your reviews coming!
but it's about sociolegal studies and nobody will read it :(
Might actually be my favourite Scorsese film (+200 indie points).
for the delay. Was going to bob a review up yesterday but no time. Will hopefully get two up tomorrow or thursday. Apologies again to those who've sent copy in and not had it published - i've not forgotten!
also, still welcoming articles all the time. Get in touch.
in other news, I would pay serious money to see this
and thanks for the feedback too.
as i always say, people - keep contributing! i'll send a group email out later this evening for another plea :)
Think we've got about three/four in the pipeline atm.
did anyone not receive anything? If so i've probably lost your email, could you send it agian?
Also, from what i can see i have one review i've got unpublished by yer man sloame. Has anyone else sent anything in that hasn't gone up yet? I'm sorry, just trying to keep track and i'm terrible at organising. whoops.
due to not having time for anything.
keep reviews coming in. next one will be up on monday.
it's got Christopher Lee in it and looks batshit mental. So go watch!
please keep reviews coming in etc etc.
what's the fuss? Why won't it die?
big apologies for the silence on this. Just been way, waaaaaaay busy over the last few weeks. I've still got to review BSS, dreams of a life, pusher and As if im not there and i know a couple of others emailed about future ideas, will get back to you soon.
Anyway, instead of being regular three a week this is going to be a sporadic blog now - just as and when reviews come in and as and when i can edit them. Please still keep your ideas coming in though, read ab out some really interesting films through them that i otherwise wouldn't have heard of.
Got a lot on at work and stuff.
best film site at the moment, great regular content
I watched The Signal earlier tonight as a result of seeing the review (was it Thierry's?) on Verbal's site.
