Turns out we could have all been minted like the Norwegians. Aren't we silly!
If it is as they've written it.
and will return the favour some time soon.
why do the Scandis always do everything better?
that they're all oil rich.
They're not oil rich. They have no oil. They have massive, powerful multi nationals drilling for oil off their coast.
I know they get money from this but to say it's their oil is very misleading. It's the drillers oil.
I don't think the Scots will be expecting their own little oil pool in their back yards, so they can swim around in it like Scrooge McDuck
No, the drillers don't own the oil, the companies who have leased the blocks own the oil in those areas. You obviously have no idea what you're talking about.
Scotland is handsomely oil rich. There is loads of oil, it just might not be economical to extract it. Hence why the West of Shetland basis is being so vigourously developed now. Look: http://www.enquest.com/media-centre/press-releases/2013/15-11-13-kraken.aspx £4 billion investment.
Thanks for getting necessarily insulting.
When I said "drillers" I basically meant the companies who own the areas / "who have leased the blocks" or whatever.
Sorry I didn't refer to that exact terminology. I know and am good friends with many people who live in Aberdeen and work in all different areas of the oil industry.
I don't really care what sub contracting oil companies give to drillers or any other part of the industry.
My point was and still is that whilst Scotland makes money from oil it's always through a conduit of a big multinational.
SO FUCK OFF.
it was just an annoying dismissal because I didn't properly specify the ins and outs of sub contractual oil extraction and contract law.
Just made me laugh.
Need to eat and chill out.
it really sounded like you didn't know. so, with that i wrap by big baton back up and move on.
I was being a dick too.
I want my love in.
Oil industry mates
Im sure that you knew that.
But we live in a democracy and apparently that means its what the people wanted.....(Don't look at me, I dunno)
It says the result in investing in ultra-safe assets would have been ''£13,000 for everyone in Britain.'' but earlier it says ''Wish it could have been you with a hundred-grand bonus? Here's the really nauseating part: it should have been''.
Interesting piece nonetheless
So yeah, that second quote is a bit misleading. I'd rather all Norwegians got £100k than all of us get £13k. They can do a lot more with their amount.
They don't so much refuse to join, they just deliberately operate their economy and currency in such a way that they just fall short of the convergence criteria.
