Aussie movie from the 70s, mate.
Anyone seen it?
Heard a little bit about it. It's on the US Netflix I think.
I respect his taste in these matters
Watched a very shit quality version, which I assume was a VHS transfer, of it on Youtube. Original prints of it were thought to have all been lost but someone unearthed one a few years back hence the DVD/Bluray release.
If you like Australian cinema, it is a must see. Really captures the clasutrophobia of open space that the outback has. Also features possibly Donald Pleasence's best ever performance. And some good 'roo shooting. It's pretty bleak, but would definitely recommend.
Amazing film. Bloody terrifying, mind. Also very very funny. Donald Pleasence is great. The levels of claustrophobia and fear induced by the film in the viewer is really strange, almost like the film has a curse or witchcraft is involved or something. Genuinely eerie.
It's one of those very rare films where I get the impression that the filmakers set out with a story and an idea, but somewhere along the line the film itself took over, and was directing the creators, rather than vice versa. Difficult to explain, but it's like the film is its own self-aware entity and the director and creators are merely a vessel for it to come to our world from some other god-forsaken dimension or twisted parallel universe.
