Fuck off, rain.
My feet are wet and I'm viewing a flat I probably won't rent later. You?
I'm still feeling relatively chipper, that's two days in a row now, which is made surprising by the fact that i had a pish nights sleep.
just about to fly to america. looks quite cold.
or the navigation system will go mental and you'll end up in Katmandu*
*won't do a fucking thing
Just rock up in a t-shirt and make them all look daft.
got stuck in immigration and missed my connection. now I'm stranded in minneapolis with no more flights going anywhere remotely close to where I have to be.
also really tired, but that's my fault for staying up til gone 12 to play a crappy cricket management game when I had to get up at 5:45 the next day.
You're alright, Tuesday.
I'm on a course. Me, on a course. Incredible.
Well, catch you later.
pretty top secret really
Well, catch you later.
A man walks into a bar and sees two tables and says "Can I join you?".
got me learning on a course
Nothing to report really.
Either gonna go and see Wadjda or Robin Ince tonight. Both as cheap as chips. Someone decide for me?
second night in a row. woke up shivering, although i think that's because i'm yet to master the fine balance between ROAST and FREEZE on my bedroom's radiator.
Having said that, today I am lecturing mostly, which makes me happy (well. happIER.)
I am about a third of the way through my mammoth house spring clean. Yesterday I gutted all of my wardrobes and chest of drawers, reordered them back their proper configuration, did three loads of laundry. Also took the tree decorations down.
Tonight I am cleaning the oven and the fridge and trying to wrestle my tree downstairs and off to the pickup point. I have no idea how I'm going to manage it by myself as it is 6.5 foot and I am just over 5 foot. Then hoovering up needles for three days.
I love the first week in Januray for gutting your house. Do it pretty much every year and it restores more balance and clarity to my life than any kind of new years resolutions ever could. (can you tell I'm bored with it already?)
where I was asking for some help, saying - tree, roof, aff.
It's an old slanty roof though and my garden is in the dip between the twin peaks, if that makes sense. I'd have to hoist the tree up and over a peak which would take more effort than me just dragging it down the 6 flights of stairs.
onto Bath street, one of the busiest main artery roads thorugh the city. or dineed any road for that matter (#sorelytempted.)
duvet cover bed sheet thing, wrap that round it to collect the needles
that covers the top half. I need ot do the next bit by daylight as my lights have blown and I can't change the lightbulbs (they are bertical halogens tat are boxed in and I don't have the right screwdriver to get teh fittings off) so I'm working in the dark/ by fairy light. My next step, probably tomorrow lunchtime, is to put it on its side and bag up the bottom part. your old duvert cover idea is total genius though. i think I'll put that on top of it. You're a star, thanks.
lack of sleep and cold. cycle in hurt my head
gonna go to the shop now and buy lots of cereal. Only had scrambled egg on toast yesterday. Oh and some wotsits.
what a ridiculous reason to be late for work. someone likes me though because my boss is late in because of flooding so i've gotten away with it!
what would you do..?
(inspire me please)
so travel , accomadation, estimated spending money etc
with a mate who had some money as well. we did slovenia for two weeks, all driving, in summer. was less than £600 each. and was AMAZING
but my GF and all my mates dont drive so Id be the designated driver! :(
main reason Ive not driven across the states or something aswell.
but driving in both american and europe (well, slovenia at least) is a total doddle compared to driving over here. you're not even tired by the end of it. that's not as much of a drawback as you think it is. honestly. even if i was the only driver i would still do it again as long as people understood that i wasn't going to be missing out on the amazing cheap wine (USA) or the awesome dive bars (slovenia)
I just dont get the attraction to go there.. its not been romanticised in films/music/books enough for it to make an impression (yet).
Start in Gdansk. Dead cheap, very pretty. Wander about. Have some coffee. Marvel at the lovely buildings. Walk down by the river. Have an insane amount of beer. Take a train to Sopot and walk along Europe's longest wooden pier.
Then get a train to Warsaw. Free walking tour meets in the main square every day. Excellent and lasts 4 hours or so. Wander about, go to the university's library rooftop garden. Eat pierogi. Go to a microbrewery and the the Secret Garden for 4 zloty shots and beer (80p).
Then if your budget stretches finish in Krakow. Rent a bike and cycle to the Kościuszko Mound. Go to the Japan Centre. Go to the Jewish Quarter and find a weird gig to go to. Find all the places they filmed Schindler's List. The obviously drink a lot of beer.
but why go there and not.. croatia or germany or somewhere?
(thanks for the help btw)
every bit as beautiful and historic and as much of a buzz. but not as many tourists so is cheaper
(I did Zadar > Split > Korcula > Dubrovnik a few years ago. It was absolutely fantastic but not *that* cheap.)
As is a lot of Germany (though Berlin is obviously cheap as anything).
I like the vibe Poland has, particularly in bars. I've never ever been to a shit bar or pub in Poland. It's incredibly cheap (£20/night hotels with breakfast, 80p pints, dinner for a couple of quid), everyone is dead friendly and some of it (Gdasnk and Krakow) looks like a fairytale.
...if you wanted to go later in the year. That is SUCH a good little festival. 90% likely to go again this year.
like the sound of that
and last year is was £27 for that ticket. I'm waiting for those ones to go on sale again :D
diS answer- look at ryanair and see what cheap flights are available for the times you're wanting to go. then look atv lonely plnet/ rough guide for an idea of cheap transport links and hostels/ cheap authentic accommodatoin. Eat in non tourist places, where you see locals eating. Eat the specials of the day as these are often the freshly made and cheap options. Budget yourself a daily amount leaving a bitin reserve for meergencies or for blowing on a treat on your last day. A life enriching experience buit requires a lot of planning and you'll come back kjnackered thinking That was a Bit of a Palaver.
normal person answer- cheapholidays.com (i think i made that up although it possibly exists). cheap last minte all inclusive package holiday to egypt or spain. get a tan, look at boobs, drink 'free' booze and eat 'free' food all day. Come back with a bit of skin cancer and jaundice, but a right old spring in your step cos you've not had to lift a finger (unless fingering) for a week.
sometimes I wish I didnt post on DiS and was a normal person
I've stayed in all inclusive places before because I'm not snobby about holidays or holidaymakers, they tend to be decent and affordable accommodation and a good base (full of 'free' food and drink) from which to go off and explore outisde the hotel. I'll usually have one meal a day outside of the complex if i'm staying in one of these, just to avoid cabin fever, and do some exploring the local area during the hottest part of the day rather than sunbathing. Obvs this only works if your AI hotel is close to an intersting place. E>G I would not recommend certain parts of fuerteventura. Worst holiday of my life was in costa caleta which is a comples featuring three AI hotels and NOTHING ELSE. it was like being in a jail. I walked three miles down an unlit unmarked road one evening before i found a 'town' and all it had was a petrol station, titty bar and a backpackers bar. (actually, once i found the 'town' it was pretty good, but that was on the penultimate day of my holiday, which was a bit bloody late.)
normal people think DiS people are mental dweebs. And there are more normal people out there than there are of you lot.
...but then I remember last year or so there was a particularly eye-opening thread on all inclusive jobbies which I remember being frequently ghastly.
Let me find it and see how bad it actually was...
But most folk seemed to be on board with them. Just a few sniffers ruining the DiS Experience™ for everyone. As usual...
It's cool, I've been consitent in my views and didn't troll that one. Phew.
To be honest, I think more of us than care to admit it are a blend of DiS and normal. Some leaning more heavily to one end of the spectrum than others. many in denial. The level of intellectual and cultural snobbery in relation to the choices made by many decent ordinary people who, for whatever reason are not aware of or interested in what they may view as an 'alternative' way of doing things, is quite something. That said, you will never get me to go to Magaluf.
DiS - 60%
Normal - 40%
Whatever that means! :)
I'm the other way round.
Most people just get on with their lives with merry abandon and seeking simple, normal pleasures. Your more outspoken DiSer seems to judge these people as ignorant, parochial or culturally bereft... which is unfair and upsetting but, y'know, we all have a pop at folk who are different once in a while.
I'd rather go to Magaluf than Secret Cinema, now that's a fact.
was trapped in my neighbors garden after falling off a 30ft wall. I had to go get it out at about 10pm...cause my neighbor is so scared of cats. This cat was lovely though but howled all night long. He ate some food and had water and cuddles so we let him out at 6am this morning and he ran up the road and looked back like 'thank you'. Lovely cat! He'll be fine.
Today I am very tired though. I didn't sleep at all last night cause of this cat so tonight I will be dying....and watching Taste.
Its going to be great.
got a replacement nexus 4
managed to make the train this morning
saw a dead fox on the way to work
or was it the week before, can't remember. I got out to check and the people hessilhead came to help but it was dead on impact :(
car has a right old dent in it.
Was it definitely dead? if you think it might be alive you should probably phone hesilhead.
Urgh, feel sick thinking about this.
so glad my dog wasn't walking with me too, he loved that fox. it is the fox that comes into our garden at night, i can tell from the white marking on his tail. :(
I hope frank doesn't miss him/her. I'm sure you'll have another one along soon as they tend to be territorial, and if your territory is up for grabs, it won't take long before it's snapped up by another fox. I was home at my aprents for nearly two weeks and didn't see our fox once, I'll need to ask my dad what's happened to it. (It' won't be the one I karked as that was miles and miles away)
my radio show: http://i.mixcloud.com/CFgDFq
when my turn isn't due until the 13th. he's also owed me £21 for two weeks (more than the amount electric costs) and i had to put it on for him last time because he couldn't be bothered. these people.
and emma roberts is engaged, awful day.
Stick up for yourself man! Tell him that:
a. he sells any of your stuff you arwe reporting him to the police for theft.
b. if he wishes, he can take the electric off the money he woes you and just pay you the balance.
Get some backbone.
it involves people who hate computers creating notebook files from copying and pasting email addresses to convert to csv to then export. ARGHARGHARGGH. Then I get to see how they can move their calendars, might just go weep somewhere.
otherwise watching Justified at the moment, really liking it...good high shoot count and a top cowboy hat.
Course is going ok.
The instructor said we'd be looking at a wizard later. Looking forward to that.
Catch you later.
i slept really weird last night. slept really deeply and had awful dreams and i don't feel rested at all today. fuck, man. brought my own cafetiere into work and nobody else is having any.
left my clothes in the washing machine though :-(
probably headed to jiujitsu tonight haven't done much exercise over the past couple of weeks so I'll be impressed if I make it through the warm-up.
Not had a fag yet. Should probably go and pick up a sadnwich and have a fag.
My holiday kind of stopped after the first week (all I've done the past week is go to Starbucks whilst the ruins are being cleaned, and then back to the hotel). But it's definitely worked at clearing my head a bit. Although that could just be the New Year thing.
90% sure things are going to completely fall apart when I'm back though. I'm super behind on study / homework / tests, have literally zero interest in classes, and pretty much minus interest in the people here.
I am, however, really really looking forward to catching up with The Good Wife though. Might just miss another few days of classes and do that.
Didn't you go out there to do that course because you...wanted to do that course out there?
(otherwise, yes, I am nodding along with you.)
hate actual japan
hash tag real talk
Was totally expecting that. Just thought the courses / students would be more interesting. Going from Cambridge to what is essentially primary school for adults is way too much of a mindfuck.
you know how much effort it took me not to type that
because if I stitch it all together it sounds like someone super behind on classes they think are too easy but then opting to spend several days watching TV instead of doing anything.
I am very definitely missing something here.
It's ridiculously easy, but would take a few hours to do based on sheer volume and USE YOUR IMAGINATION requirements. I'm not behind on my level of Japanese at all, I'm quite far ahead ofthe level expected (extremely far ahead when it comes to reading). So it's like sitting down to do three hours of Year 4 reading comprehension every night. Instead I opt for, you know, actually learning stuff / reading things not written for six year olds.
I wanted to do the course at my actual university. The classes here are like being in primary school. Seriously. And the students are all... young... in a not good way.
Bit of a listless morning so far
just booked in 28hrs next week, including friday night and the entire weekend. CRASH landing.
Today also marks me going for a whole week without any alcohol for what I imagine is the first time in about ten years.
good start to the year
your new one? where are you going?
going back to work at the uni but in a better job, trying to be held to my notice period too, might need to pick your brain about consequences if i jook it...
You're far better off doing something that makes you happy
*maniacal laughter as she does yoga breathing, tries not to stab boss with letter opener and hits refresh on s1jobs AGAIN.*
