Wow, I'd read earlier that it wasn't a serious accident.

  • In a coma when he arrived at hospital

Those early reports must have been fabricated

    • these situations are common with head traumas

they can take quite a long time to display bad effects. hope he makes a full recovery

    • According to the BBC

he was conscious after the accident, so he could've deteriorated on the way to the hospital.

Whatever the details of situation, it's pretty grim in any event. Hope he pulls through.

      • There's sometimes an incubation period of sorts when it comes to head injuries isn't there?

Same thing happened to Natasha Richardson

        • funnily enough it looks to be exactly what happened to her

a brain haemorrhage that puts the patient in a coma, requiring brain surgery.

          Not optimistic about this.

Loved F1 in the 90s. I'll never forget him storming into the paddock to confront Coulthard

  • One of those people who I've always assumed was invincible.

Unimaginable that he wont pull through.

  • I like to think the inner workings of his body that deal with convalescence

are as ruthless and clinical as he was before he first retired.

like, he is sizing up this coma right now, and at any moment, he'll do it on the brakes and take it on the inside, at which point he'll sit bolt upright, hand the unnecessary bandages to the nurse, and attempt to engage the doctor about what kind of in-coma telemetry they got.

I am certain of it! Right :(

  • After 7 months

He's out of his coma (although not sure what state he's in, probably very serious) and being transferred to continue his rehab.

    Fantastic news.

    • Amazing that he's come out of his coma after so long,

it would be incredible if he's able to make some sort of recovery - is there any indication of how likely that actually is?

      hip_young_gunslinger @jontosh2001 | 16 Jun '14, 11:43 | X
      • The family are very private about his situation

So we don't know how he is specifically. In terms of past evidence, I don't know.
