I saw Frozen (8.5/10) and This is the End (7.5/10) over the weekend.
Got the tree up.
Feeling well Xmassy.
Bolton Abbey's quite nice.
Bit windy up north though.
Note: Bolton Abbey is the name of the town. The ruin is actually a Priory. (or something like that).
Apologies for the wind.
*leaves drownedinsound forever*
good tate times. that klee exhibition is brilliant but fucking hell it's long. sober dates are apparently a thing now. who knew?
everyone in my department is off this week so I am in charge. on the up side I get my own office for a few days, but on the down side people will expect me to know stuff and will ask questions and stuff like that. such a bad idea. only five days to go though?
record some message about "blah blah we are shut for xmas and that" and turn the phones off.
that you need a card to get into (mine is on a lanyard you'll be pleased to hear) and only about five people have access and you can't see me through the window in the door because there's a cupboard in the way. could easily just sleep all day and no-one would see me.
getting very wet whilst cycling headfirst into a southern wind is that i wasn't getting very wet whilst cycling headfirst into a northern wind.
nice weekend didn't drink too much, did some but nowhere near enough christmas shopping. didn't get a christmas tree. did cook a massive roast got significant leftovers for dinner tonight. watched The Hunger Games (the first one) does it get any better in the second one?
Just my mum, sister, brother-in-law and niece to go.
No ideas. Fuck.
And then spent the rest of the weekend flaked out or sleeping as I came down with a bloody serious case of man-flu, meaning I missed the Wetherspoons pub crawl and the Her Parents gig.
I'd also completely forgotten that I'd already ordered my brother's Christmas present back in November, so it was a nice surprise to find the first four issues of The Nightwatchman being delivered over the weekend.
Let The Right One In
So that I know whether to reply ironically or with sincerity?
(DAMN YOU SEAN)
as DiS blocker would've prevented me from seeing it anyway.
i am so so tired.
Is that something I said?
No, a voice, a voice for radio!
(She said you had a lovely voice sheeldz)
how many dissers there had met me? cat-race is one.
I can also confirm his sexiness.
i need to get back to london
You should come down for it!
dunno if you've met CG. you got a glowing review
i've not had the pleasure of CG's company. i've met a load of the old guard though from a few years back
chess saturday, which was knackering. then party on saturday night, which was great. stayed over and hung out there til about 4pm. Then went to see my friend's circus show in Charlton, which was fucking amazing. Was like a proud brother at the end!
Had a bit of a comedown last night but, y'know, nearly christmas innit.
Wetherspoons crawl was obviously a particular highlight. Apparently I was telling everyone at different points that h_y_g, fidel_catstro and Dans were all "the nicest guy I've ever met" <333333
I really wanted to meet moker.
I liked that :')
Parties on Friday AND Saturday.
I drew on a fake beauty spot on my cheek on Saturday, which I haven't done since I was about 20. Don't know what inspired that come back but it went down well.
So hungover yesterday, decided to watch Only God Forgives. Went to bed and woke up in the middle of the night screaming, dreaming that someone was chasing me with a knife :-o I don't know if its because of some weird voodoo that film does to your subconscious or all the drinking.
It's a shame, as I quite enjoy it on public transport as people are kind to you, and a lady gave me a fag yesterday which was obviously good, but people (especially men) seem to think that it's a defining feature (I am looking* at you, waiter, who said loudly at lunch yesterday 'how hot is the girl with the eye patch'. I am half blind, not deaf, you idiot.)
* It's virtually impossible to see which way I'm looking right now.
("Because you arrrrrrrrrrrrr").
I am horrendously ugly and it covers a good chunk of my face.
behind my eye. It's truly amazing. (I am being quite brave btw. I had my eye clamped and drained in hospital on Friday morning and half an hour later was in a car to edinburgh (not driving, obvs) to go to my office xmas lunch. where everyone laughed at me, but still....
or was it not a sty? i get stys all the time.
nor was it a result of my xmas tree hitting me in the face. I was convinced it was xmas tree related, but no. this is random/ stress induced.
It's practically gone. I'm just lapping up the attention for another day or two and then normal service will resume.
Is it a proper black eye patch or some medical-looking thing?
I have light blonde hair and have been wearing red lipstick to retarct form the aforementoned afllction, so it does actually look a bit like fancy dress/ taking the piss.
You no longer have to pay the premium to watch 3D movies!
50th person to say this to me (it's infinitely preferable to long john silver, so I'll take it.)
As of 8pm last night.
apparently she lives in a hut in the desert. I am going to buy a cottage on Iona and escape there. The parallels are too stark.
she has ever seen was me walking down a flight of stairs yesterday. (after some mulled wine, admittedly.)
going to say something hideously rude about me having no complaints from my bf about my depth perception but I just didn't have the energy. and there, i just did it anyway.
did our anniversary getaway this weekend, blatantly ignored all DiS advice and went to Cornwall to the Scarlet hotel, was AMAZING thoroughly recommend. Loads of eating, beach walking and swimming
missed my children like mad though....
still got a load of Christmas stuff to do, in big denial that it is only a week and a it away
Had a good weekend of xmas parties. Friday was a chilled out grown up one as my friends new house in the home counties.
Saturday was the pub crawl which was great fun and met a bunchy of new DiSer who are all awesome.
Sunday was Christmas dinner with the gf as we won't have one together on xmas day. I actually had it for both meals. Amazing.
Last week at work until the new year now. Excited plus can't be bother to do actual work. Got first work xmas lunch today as well.
I'm starting to figure out that when they say you shouldn't drink on beta blockers, you probably actually shouldn't. 3rd memory blank out I've had since started taking them. never happened before.
Club on Saturday was funny, as my very rich friend paid for everything. It's funny going to posh places now and then. They brought us champagne with sparklers on and we bought 2 3litre bottles of vodka and they just brought loads of mixers and we were pouring our on drinks. i felt like a king
Says that, to a number, they are all absolute scum.
like a cost-check girl.
I should have bought all my christmas presents but haven't bought any. Its going to be a nightmare fighting people to get to the tills this weekend. why am I such an idiot
you done any christmas cards yet?
Because fuck them, that's why.
because I'll just get loads of grief if I don't.
ho ho ho
And are all picky about their clothes.
Except, I suspect, my niece.
Staggered out of bed at 9 to go to band practice. Tried not to die.
at least i'm off tues/weds, need to imbibe a large amount of coffee asap
Friday: Got high then went to see Ryoji Ikeda's Datamatics [Ver 2.0] which was just incredibly intense and brilliant.
Saturday: mooched about town, went to a few craft fairs then went to see The Nuns / Beauty Pageant / Don't Argue. The Nuns are my new favourite tribute band, and Debbie Smith from Echobelly's in them!
Sunday: pub lunch and board games followed by a 24 marathon curled up in bed.
Just in time for Christmas.
Watched Sixth Sense with my daughter, the twist had been spoiled for her but she still wanted to see it and enjoyed it.
She's trying to watch all of these listchallenges.com/imdb-top-250 Really looking forward to watching 2001 with her.
Also got pretty drunk with a very beautiful woman. Turns out she knows all the words to Stereo by Pavement. Feel a bit lucky.
but he just rang to re-arrange, meaning I have another couple of days of worrying to do.
I live in a shared house so it shouldn't be on me but if I didn't make the appointment nobody else would've and I'm the one who puts the bins out cos if I don't nobody else does.
I fear they're gonna fine us, if they do I should just pass it to the landlord right?
what has happened? whose fault is it?
just says "it'd be better to speak face to face"
i'd been putting the bins out the places me ex housemate told me to and it went without incident for a few weeks but this week they didn't get picked up where i left them so that's what i suspect. then read online they were giving £100 fines out to people who left stuff out incorrectly, but i was just doing what the other guy had told me and there's no instructions otherwise on our waste leaflet thing so idk
needless to say the prospect of getting some sort of fine/hassle a week before christmas isn't what i really want or need right now
i shared a bed with meow while he slept on the couch <3
I fell onto my umbrella in Sainsburys on friday night and I don't know how it happened.
Saturday was pub crawl and then cat_race pissed off my cat for some reason.
Yesterday I made mince pies.
Today. Nothing please. Thanks. Bye.
where a man has 3 wives.
You should get your nobhead boyfriend to take you to see Frozen. It's really nice.
Great 3D too (sorry PO).
I want to see Anchorman 2.
Even my googley eyed pug puppy is terrified of me.
your mean cat shouting at me
Got drunk at dinnertime in the newshouse Saturday (bed by 8) then watched the hobbit last night. Not that great. Bed by 10. BED BED BED
They were REALLY stretching the material in this one though. The first two films are just setting up the third film which is gonna be about 6 hours long to fit everything in
I know what you mean. It's charming enough to carry something pretty tenuous. I also find Freeman to be an ace actor so it'll do.
it just didn't grab me.
so I have no hope for the 2nd one.
dwarfs setting a table for 30 minutes didnt excite you? You have no soul.
HOW MANY TIMES CAN THE DWARVES NEARLY DIE?
It more felt like light-hearted christmas viewing kinda stuff. I saw it on DVD and I'd have been gutted if it had been in the cinema tbh tbf
felt really long but was broadly enjoyable, all the shit with Smaug at the end was good.
IN HIGH FRAME RATE THREE DIMENSIONAL PICTURE
bit of a head messer but two really nice meals
including this mumblecore/horror film called Entrance that had a deeply unsettling final act.
i also watched Only God Forgives. i can see why lots of people didn't like it, and i agree with a lot of their reasons. but i also really enjoyed it on a visual level. wish i'd bothered to see it in the cinema.
two more exams this week, gahhhhh. can't wait to be free.
which has advantages and drawbacks.
his next film seems bang up your street
clearly a much better balance of the two on Drive. I think if OGF had been longer I'd have enjoyed it a lot less - only so much of Gosling looking moody anyone needs to see, even if he is drenched in gorgeous red neon for most of that.
thanks for the link. i'm pretty enchanted by the idea of refn/gosling doing logan's run...
is clearly hungover but has plummeted into 'everybody is nice to each other but they all hate me I can tell.'
And it's just going on and on in a loop. NYARGH.
then went on to get hideously pissed and dance to A$AP Ferg til around 3am.
Yesterday ate way to much.
Feel godawful today.
all top lads/lasses
Ordered my sisters birthday present, spoke to my folks and watched the UFC Flyweight title fight on Sunday.
Today is a little bit annoying because they're redoing the hallways in my block of flats so they've got this massive machine churning away outside and technically we're not supposed to come in or out during the day.*
*I'm going for lunch this afternoon screw that
Reading the paper and hiding away from this day.
Brilliant weekend, full of lovely people and lots if frivolity. Spent an obscene amount of money and may have to cancel Christmas.
Sorry I didn't make it along to the crawl, but I doubt I'd have been much use.
Going to make it a new years resolution to go to some DiS events and meet more of you lot.
Saw Saving Mr Banks on Friday - 7/10. Had a load of people over on Saturday, drank all of the beers and had to pretty much sleep all of Sunday to recover. It was great.
£300 in Amazon vouchers, glad I've already finished my Christmas shopping so I can spend it all on myself
we're watching last night's wwe 'tlc' ppv and eating pringles. very good monday.
