It's a pretty shite place to watch football tbh. Pickings are slim.
that shows footy.
I've never seen it show football but beerintheevening reviews from three years ago say it does
I mean last time I went they were playing the 5 Live commentary which was about 6 seconds ahead of pictures, but it does make set pieces much less stressful when you know whether it's going to be a goal before they take it.
so aye (watch they don't have a dodgy stream of us getting pumped by Liverpool)
The Junction shows football. Usually pretty good.
But think it's normally 'home fans only' at weekends when there's a match at the Emirates
i can pretend to be an arsenal fan.
'the problem with arsenal is we try an walk it in'
About 1 minute away, has half a dozen screens
that's the terrible one
Pretty rough like, but it's slim pickings.
There's always The Slug and Lettuce on Islington Green and O'Neill's on Upper Street. Conservative and pedestrian they may be, but at least you know what you're getting...
Only has a couple screens. They do an alright pizza pie if your looking for dinner, footie and a pint.
Watched the final day of the 2012/2013 season in there. Crowd of 1/3 Man Utd, 1/3 Man City and 1/3 Arsenal supporters, which added significantly to the level of entertainment.
Alternatively, come to the Britannia (http://www.beerintheevening.com/pubs/s/25/25646/Britannia/Clerkenwell), no more than 10 min walk from Angel.
to a garish American themed diner type joint. No idea if they still show live sport.
I refuse to go in there either way - The Nags Head was perfect as it was.
Just remembered you've also got the Steam Passage Tavern. Absolute bog standard football watching gaff that.
"For a club such as Juventus where everything is beautiful, in particular where the stadium gives you the idea that you are not in Italy..."
Supporters who go to 600 mile round trip away games on a Wednesday night are exactly the sort of supporters who'll remember you kissing a local rival's badge after a derby win.
Is he even at the point that Sunderland fans cheer him?
not at whoever happens to be on the pitch or in the dug-out this month but at...something. Themselves, perhaps. An exultation at their continued ability to breathe.
That's 3 on the spin, including 2 away wins and a home win against the side who were top of the league at the time. This has caused people to get giddy and talk about the play offs. That'll stop after Ipswich at the weekend.
Neil Lennon is a big Huddersfield fan. He's now been to see us 2 games in a row. If he thinks Celtic are getting Vaughan in January he's mistaken though. Robins has stated that there is no way that he's leaving in January. Normally this doesn't mean much, but we said the same about Rhodes when he was on fire, people assumed it was bluster to put the price up, but he was still here at the end of January. So I'm confident Vaughan isn't going anywhere.
Maybe Lennon will have a look at Norwood. He's popped one in from 30 yards in both games he's been to see.
loves an injury.
I just looked at their team that drew with Atalanta on Sunday:
26 De Sanctis
03 Pires Ribeiro
16 De Rossi
05 Castan da Silva
27 Yao Kouassi
07 de Mattos Filho
Maybe 4 players in there I recognised. They look like a team of FM regens.
Pires Ribeiro is actually Northern Irish and Castan da Silva is a Scottish full-back.
Ya Kouassi is Gervinho, De Mattos Filho is Marquinhos and Pires Ribeiro is Dodo.
They're not a fan of nicknames, it seems. Good to hear I'm not as completely out of touch as I thought.
a 1-0 victory from a botched set piece, despite being under the cosh for most of the game? Whoop! Whoop! That's the sound of the Pulis..
pretty sure some of those will be useful.
what if it happened though.
"I'll knock you fucking out you cunt"
“It has been, all in all, a crap night,” Ince ranted. “It is a crap journey down. The Football League gave us a crap game on a Tuesday night at Yeovil which was crap.”
previously could never see a situation where allardyce was removed from the role given you expected predictable midtable-ish finishes year after year, but if this keeps on much longer the owners might start getting a bit arsey. If the most-goals-scored-by-a-team-outside-the-top-four-(-at-home-) crown has to be sacrificed in pursuit of this, it's a pain worth enduring
I need that crown.
%age of goals scored by players who are not strikers cup this season though
In previous years I had a choice of arcane stats I could wrap around myself like a comfort blanket and assign more meaning to than they deserved in an effort to convince myself and others that it wasn't as bad as it seemed.
Even scoring more goals than Tottenham despite being as abject in front of goal as can be remembered won't cut it - everyone can use that one.
Percentage of goals scored by British players? That's no kind of life raft
It's so obvious it might be a trap
That man could slump for England/Italy.
Imagine not thinking the man is a prick
Bit of a div on the pitch, but seems alright off it.
he's completely brilliant. like a less contrived version of zlatan i guess
I hope Ronnie decides on a little video instillation that replays that gif ad infinitum.
He seems the sort that could laugh at himself.
The celeb team who usually slated everyone they worked with but they all came back raving about him, how nice and humble he was and the lengths to which he went to do things.
Went to visit a programme and was only booked for a day shoot, but cancelled a commercial booking for the following day so he could spend more time with the kids he'd met, teaching them tricks and stuff.
He's a bit of an arse on the pitch, but I'd much rather an arse based on arrogance from talent and hard working then some of the thugs who play the game
he seems like a Suarez with the scales tipped slightly more positively.
a lot of forest fans seem to want davies sacked. they want everyone sacked.
can probably count on a couple more weeks to turn it round.
Probably stuck with him
Most would accept that he's been unfortunate with the board not supporting him during the summer and letting players go and not really signing anyone, plus all bar 5 players and himself and the coaching staff are out of contract in the summer, that must be a really shit environment to work and train in when you're not sure about where you'll be in a few months time.
I expected us to be where we are and he's the best manager we've had since Curbs, don't think there's anyone out there's who is decent who could replace him.
with the most interesting looking fixture ManU VS Everton
3rd choice jobber in net, lots of midfielders crocked. This is the start of their descent into the bottom half.
Either they had a bad day or all the kerfuffle about them has been misleading. Anti-bants aside you'd have backed a home win all day long, but they didn't exactly put up a fight. One shot on target and Essien provided the assist. Awfully wayward passing, very little defensive work outside hauling down players running at them and/or booting it in to touch, and the pressing game I've heard about was abandoned after about 7 minutes.
Don't wanna rag on them too much 'cos they're clearly doing well for themselves.
but honestly don't think it matters if they're playing a 12 year old in goal and rolled over for Jose. Demichelis and Heavy Garcia's are capable of half a dozen Essien moments per game between them, and Pellegrini's got the arrogance and rotation itch to play both. Absolutely no confidence in our ability to see out the kind of narrow, flaky wins which get you the title currently.
the league leaders, arsenal, of course.
Or at least inexplicably awful at getting results- they were fine at Chelsea until ... Well, you know.
Makes me sad that Essien moments might be a thing now :(
That's not to take away from them getting where they are - you still have to win them (W*ham had a pretty cushy list as well and have been shit). But it does means they have a backlog of tough fixtures still to play. After this weekend they have the following sequence:
Man City (h)
They'll be doing well not to drop after that lot
"Down with the Fulham. You're goin down with the Fulham."
I'll try Liverpool/Norwich but can see myself switching over pretty quickly
there's been a few #pray4norwich tweets flying about...
United, on the other hand, will have no excuses if they fail to win again...
Just so we're clear, I was at ATP from early Friday until late Monday.
It is painfully unfunny and lacking in originality, so I can see why someone thought that it might be.
the other day. It wasn't you.
forza's "still_here" had a good run. Thought he would have been rumbled years ago
Getting dangerously close to having to eat a massive amount of crow for taking the piss about the Ramsey goal prediction
I'll update the spreadsheet.
fair. there is little to no mobile internet in Pontins Communist Re-education Centre.
First, after the ref blew for a foul by their number 8 on Barton, right in front of the ref he turns around and kicks Barton. I can understand the temptation, but that's a red surely? Just gave him a talking to.
Then a Bournemouth player falls in the floor in the box and scoops the ball away from the through on goal Austin with his hands. No card, free kick 10 yards outside the box.
Good performance though, but that 442 line up will get RINSED against the better teams of the division.
Good goal from Phillips, Hoilett's was pure comedy though - terrible cross from Simpson which Austin that tried to volley and missed completely to end up with Hoilett who took 50 too many passes before mishitting it, bouncing slowly off the post and in
Yes - I've tried to ask my mates how we played in a 442. They've not bothered to email me back.
Heard the ref and assistants were a bit comedy last night.
Hoilett has been shit every time I've seen him. He'll never be good enough to play as a left midfielder in a 4. Can't tackle. Can barely trap the ball. No work rate. Like a shit Aaron Lennon.
Have our full backs started to push forward more yet? They're probably the two best in the division, yet seem to not be allowed to get forward. Nuts.
Like, relegated Blackburn's only good player (other than maybe Martin Olsson, who we snatched)?
Especially now he now longer resembles someone who has eaten Junior Hoilett and tried to assume his place.
Won some key tackles last night, and him and BAE are very dangerous down the left hand side. He occasionally runs into a blind alley, but at this level he puts the fear of god into defenders
Downsides - Bournemouth played no pressing game whatsoever and still LTC and Barton were caught out or played us into trouble.
Against top 10 we've got to play 4231
It's a shame as Johnson is excellent at this level.
LTC definitely needs to be played along with two others in the middle if we're playing a good side.
Hoilett terrifies whoever he is running at, but the end product hasn't been good enough yet and whenever he looks like he's about to come good he gets a little niggly injury.
I have high hopes for Phillips.
Hoilett's goal looks alright there. Phillips' great.
just how many alt accounts does still_here have?
what a cunt
Seems a bit odd as he was in front of school lower which was home fans. I saw him stretch his arms out christ like.
Austin does strike me as a bit of a cunt though
So Juventus were fined and their Ultras banned from behind the goals for abusive chanting.
For one game Juventus filled the seats with 12,200 kids.
Juventus have been fined again, this time for the kids abusing the opposition goalkeeper.
That should happen more often.
welbeck on the left two so kagawa will be pushed out wide.
7-1 to Man Utd.
grumble grumble forgot to change my fantasy football grumble
A win for Utd, City, Chelsea, Arsenal, Tottenham and Liverpool pays 10/1
Not so far this season, i don't think.
I'd guess once or twice a year.
4 minute walk from the stadium, but i gave it away 10 minutes ago. I have no doubt Sunderland will win one nil hanging on to their dear life.
When Bentdner starts scoring, well you might as well give Arsenal the title now
i'd be happy with this given his track record, but I know there are some who wouldn't be quite so quick to back him given his yoonited allegiance
I say give him until the end of the season and see how it goes
I disliked him like most before he became our manager, but I really warmed to him for his passion and honesty.
Be prepared for the "Sheffield Wednesday have the best fans in the World" or similar quote.
Thoughts on this? he is coming up for retirement after all :)
When manager of Sheffield United, a reporter asked him what he would do if he was the manager of their fierce city rivals Sheffield Wednesday. Warnock replied, “I would buy some bad players, get the sack and then retire to Cornwall”
apparently fourfourtwo had to pay him compensation after he claimed it was taken out of context.
in fairness, he doesn't need to buy many bad players as there are quite a fair few in the squad at the moment :D
i wish we'd occasionally go into the break more than 1-0 up over teams we're loads better than
Everton look a shade more dangerous but Utd have come closer, hitting the post and a couple of over decent chances.
Fellaini playing well.
Made some clearances but gave away the ball over and over again. Crwd definitely losing their patience with him tonight.
1st was good too
bless him, but he's just not got the skill.
Whilst we've started well, moving the ball faster than we have for a year and a half, can't help but feel that a team with a not match fit Kompany, De Michelis, Kolarov and Dzeko could be vulnerable if West Brom get it together.
who would've guessed?
top scorer right now has 38 points. Fine
but what sort of deranged mind chooses Marouane Chamakh as their fantasy captain
actually do the obviously sensible thing, and put a fiver on a Suarez hat-trick?
Switched over to see Wayne escape yet another red card ffs
This is a fun night.
Has anyone seen Moyes' trousers?!
Has been a very watchable game mind. Being mediocre was a lot more fun when we were running away with the league.
Still early days yet.
far far from a given.
being out of the CL isnt the biggest worry; our tactics/attitude is. if utd were playing expansive, attacking football and dropping points then i'd take the wooper league for a couple of seasons whilst whatever needed to be honed was honed.
Would happily take competing for the tin pot cups and European places if the games were enjoyable to watch and could easily stomach results like tonight if we hadn't put in such gutless performances against West Brom and Southhampton.
Any idea why RVP wasn't even on the bench tonight? Seems like he's been just about ready to play for the last 4 games.
It's a dark place.
careful what you wish for lads
Reckon the football will come eventually if Moyes keeps us scrapping among the top few and is afforded a bit of a money and luck in the transfer market. But if we're out of the Champions League we become far less attractive prospect for world class players to sign for (or stay at) the club. Given we don't have the financial power of City, Chelsea or even maybe Arsenal, it'd be a slippery slope.
Winning the league while playing shite really wasn't all that bad. Half a season of entertaining comebacks and a sackful of great goals from RVP. Would happily go back.
Not that there's probably much to say about Stoke v Cardiff, admittedly.
two man midfield containing giggs sums it up.
different to the other times united have dropped/lost points at home this season as it wasnt moyes' negativity that cost them. hit the woodwork twice, two headers from six yards out squandered, quite a few other chances.
still what a bag of absolute wank.
Last time i checked he was United's most decorated player.
They rarely concede sloppy goals because Giggs is a bit old, or fail to score because Giggs is a bit old.
utd are often over-run down the middle due to using a two-man midfield, and this is exacerbated by playing Giggs who doesn't make an effort to close players down. using a three man midfield set-up with another body in the middle would lessen his duties, but utd don't.
Everyone thinks the goals their team concedes are cheap, but all three of Sunderland's tonight came from set pieces were Chelsea were organised for the initial take but all over the fucking place for second or third balls. There won't be many games you can win after giving away three goals.
Hazard was fucking incredible, took the absolute piss out of about seven Sunderland players on a regular basis. Kinda wish my dodgy stream hadn't broken away to the other PL goals so I could go praise-mental without knowing what Suarez did tonight.
wonder exactly when fellaini turned from a terminator into a wobblybottom scared of doing bad for doing good. carrick in absentia > beckenbauer.
Average big man being forced into an ineffective Cleverly type.
this whole situation where you know arsenal are going to win as soon as they kick the ball...
it feels a bit weird and i'm not sure if i'm comfortable with it yet. It's nice though i suppose.
It's not long 'til March.
Should be interesting.
fuck it, stick fellaini up top
Fellaini as the false nine.
or Javier Hernandez.
or Danny Welbeck.
RVP is injured.
but i'm quickly coming to the conclusion that he's a fine, fine man.
but i don' reckon they've ever been ahead of man u in december. this season is weird, hard to see chelsea or city dropping any more points ever though. (arsenal just have to, don't they?)
but the thing that would worry me if i was a fan would be that on every single occasion they've faced worthy opponents domesically this season they've looked shite. Eight games against teams around or about them, including the cup game against Liverpool, they've won two, both 1-0, both at home, and in both games they were outplayed second half and very lucky to escape with the points.
rather than your reporting?
in the top 3.
How capable are liverpool/spurs/everton of finishing above man utd?
I think they'll probably just about sneak 4th based on those squads being relatively weak, and this being man utd's biggest crisis I can remember in my lifetime, wouldn't be surprised to see some major investment in january - only thing is I'm not sure if Moyes is the man to make any great signings.
Don't think I'd like it, tbh. There's only so much change I can tolerate.
Brief glimpses of one of the top players in the country. If he played to his capabilities even just every two or three games rather than every two or three months he could be the very best.
it was a comfortable victory :D
Assume he meant from open play, which was the case- Sunderland didn't trouble us at all with the ball in play.
That makes up for being paraplegic clowns at set pieces, right?
Don't like that. Don't like that AT ALL.
What pub did you go to in the end?
gonna get to the junction for 12 and see if it looks alrate
take a bow
This Suarez lad looks pretty good...
this was better though
take your time...
Probably the best player in the PL for me. Sickening though that is to admit.
what's odd is that (in the first half anyway, I turned away after) we actually were pretty decent
pick ONE celebration and stick to it, you can't have all of them
stoke piss cardiff
...might relegate us
I'd ask my resident Cattermole-lite to shatter Suarez's knees as soon as the game starts. Maybe take a crowbar with you onto the pitch. Seems like the 3 game ban might be worth it.
failed miserably though
