What do we think of them?
Are they ever excuseable?
"Welcome To Bellendia"
Not a christmas person myself but don't have any strong feelings about how others choose to celebrate the occasion tbh tbf...
but generally awful
But I do like the odd one done up to the nines. There's a row of houses near mine, all identical, except that one of them is now caked in blue lights, with giant lit up penguins and other assorted wintery/Christmas models in the garden. Must have cost a fortune, but makes me smile everytime I go past it.
people want to get into it, put up some silly lights and spread a bit of love / cheer - GREAT!
death to good taste
And the lights. It can look really elegant or it can look shocking. Personally, it's the more garish the better for me. I'm turning my place into santa's grotto this year, even thigh I'm hardly ever there.
preferable to odd thighs imho
1. Makes the road I travel down to my parents at Christmas look all festive when I arrive on Christmas Eve
2. Really horrible displays make me feel all smug that I have better taste than the person who has put them up
when the blackouts and food shortages start
i don't like the multicoloured flashing ones though.
A house, on the inside of a bend, has lit up the front of their house with blue, flashing lights.
Every fucking time I drive down that road in the dark, and see blue flashing lights reflecting off the houses opposite, I slow down in anticipation of a fire engine or whatever, before realising it's that friggin house.
The residents should be done with impersonating an emergency vehicle.
I've gone out on my bike round my town in mid december and scoped out a route past all the best ones (usually in the chavviest areas of town tbh).
Then I take my kids out for a night-time cycle past them all. They love it and it doesn't cost a thing. It's become a Christmas tradition in our house so exterior lights FTW as far as I'm concerned.
I'm happy to see them on people's houses. i mean i could moan about environmental effects, but i'd rather see a flashing house than anything else in the world at christmas.
