Single most orange person I've ever seen.
This sounds like an anecdote and a half.
Somehow I misread 'orange' as 'strange'. Doesn't sound that interesting at all now.
as I was when Ricky Martin came out.
But fair play to Tom Daley. What he’s done, at his age, takes courage. It might seem easy to us, but only when you’re in that position yourself, with the eyes of the world seeming looking your way, do you realise how high those diving boards actually are.
is that he says he is still attracted to women, but just happens to be happy now in a relationship with a man. Which is a bit of a lame effort in coming out really, but stonewall etc all seem to be happy with it. Good on him, could see it a bloody mile off though.
Sexuality's a spectrum. No need to define anything by a label.
but it sounded like he was making an excuse, rather than just coming out as Bi or whatever. That is all. Good on him, sexuality is a spectrum and all that etc etc
... call me cynbical, he may very weel be bi. But it sounds to me like somethign his PR people have made him say in the hope that his fickle teenage girl fans will still love him.
i think people just find 'of course i still fancy girls' a bit off, like its a given that he MUST do because everyone does.
about what your 'PR team' wants. It's far more likely he identifies as bisexual.
Any time anyone declares their bisexuality, people *always* say things like 'Ah yes, but he's REALLY ____, he's just trying to hide it.'
It's total horseshit.
i think people are just finding the phrasing ''of course i still fancy girls'' a bit off, like its a given that he MUST fancy them.
If his agent was saying that, you'd have a point.
But he's basically saying 'I've always said I fancy women, and of course I still do, but I also fancy men as well'.
Honestly, if he's at a point where he can come out and say what he's said, he's at a point where he could also come out as gay. In many ways, there's more of a stigma on bisexuality than homosexuality. It has nothing to do with PR or sponsorship. It has to do with someone being open and honest, as far as I can tell.
I certainly don't understand why people can't at least take that as the most likely scenario, rather than speculating about knowing his sexuality better than he does.
he may very well be bi. Most of us are to one extent or another. I just think that the way he said it was cynically put.
but it does seem that has more to do with you than him, to be honest.
In this thread, people taking cynical tongue in (bum)cheek musings way too seriously.
he's lying. Given the stigma around bisexuality, I think it's at least worth talking about.
Someone has to pick up the mantle.
a lot of people are very theoretically onboard with the whole 'sexuality is a fluid spectrum' thing until someone actually seems to be expressing a fluid sexuality in actual real life
i can see the point about the slightly cynical/possibly overly-defensive wording, but i don't think it really justifies being sceptical about a form of sexuality that is already heavily underrepresented and subject to scepticism/disbelief which arguably makes it an even more confusing and difficult experience than coming out as gay
yeah i'm back to represent the boring interminable debate posts, whatchagonnado
by writing some long thing about how conceiving of sexuality as a "spectrum" or a "continuum" is little better than seeing it in terms of binary identities. And about how if this Daley guy (whom I've never heard of) says that he is still attracted to women, but just happens to be happy now in a relationship with a man, that needn't mean either that he's properly gay but not ready to admit it, OR that he's genuinely bisexual.
or perhaps he feels like he's been goaded out of the closet earlier than he'd like, or something. I don't know.
make another series of celebrity diving.
prediction: instant regret about pressing Post reply, but here goes anyway...
for a small amount of dicksplash ruining an otherwise clean entry.
and not going to The Sun for a 'WORLD EXCLUSIVE: TOM DALEY - 'THE TRUTH ABOUT MY LOVE LIFE.' and earning loads of money through it.
I wonder if the press were gong to 'out' him somehow and he thought this was the best approach. Or maybe he felt that he wanted to make a statement asbout coming out formally. either way, he is a poppet and a National Treasure™.
For a kid who's grown up in quite a blaze of publicity, expectation around 2012 etc, plus lost his dad who seems to have been a top bloke and great support for him, Tom Daley has (as far as I can see) turned out to be a genuinely level headed and decent lad - a good guy
That lmfao dance thing he did was inexcusable
And they get involved to try and get some modicum of control over how the news is delivered
It's better this way than to have the Mirror publish "Daley SNAPPED in NIGHTSPOT kissing MAN" and all the BS that would come with that.
I'm a homophobe but I don't mean it malevolently, please forgive me.
His TV show is back soon. Got to be the stupidest TV show concept that I've still watched EVER.
Did you never see Keith Chegwin in Naked Jungle?
didn't chegwin do a show called man on man or something?
My favourite thing from London 2012
Whether he's gay, straight or bi, he's still very tedious. His conduct after winning the bronze medal last year (jumping in the pool with his team-mates while the gold and silver medalists remained composed and dignified) was very narcissistic. Frankly, he only has such a high profile (as opposed to his team-mates, or more talented British athletes in other sports) because he's so adept at drawing attention to himself with PR stunts like uploading videos of himself dancing in his trunks.
And also, while it's absolutely fine and proper that an athlete makes money through sponsorship, is it necessary to name-check Asda or Shredded Wheat in every fucking interview?
God forbid anyone should be happy to win an Olympic medal.
that he is gayer than Asda, but not quite as gay as Shredded Wheat
Asda is as gay as a window. Shredded Wheat meanwhile is a regular Burt Reynolds.
Is this what the videos about? Some presenter on radio kent or somewhere was saying how disappointed his dead dad must be in him! I thought he'd become a ragin smackhead or something!
there was a celebrity diving TV show????
Finds fame, enjoys the trappings of that, gets into chaps for a while with the caveat that he still likes slaying pus. When his gay year's over he'll get an unbelivable amount of skirt, probably.
let's make a list of men who have had a gay year and then got an unbelievable amount of skirt:
Even before the fame of the olympics all my gay mates were often going on about him (saying he's a bit tasty on FB etc) and going to watch him dive and stuff. I genuinely thought he was gay on account of that, although thinking about it they might just like watching men in tight trunks. What I'm saying is that he was already something of a LGBT icon beforehand wasn't he?
he is, by his own 'admission', bisexual
he's not used the B word has he? Could be cis or whatever.
but didn't he say he liked girls as well?
(nb: i haven't watched the video. pure speculation based on what everyone else has said)
spliddin hairs there mate
although bears are still denying rumours about shitting in the woods.
The more I read the thread the less likely I think that is the case.
