What would be be? Denmark Hill > Paddington > Oxford?
Takes circa 45 minutes from Denmark Hill to Paddington, on a good day, then an hour to Oxford from there. Wouldn't even contemplate driving.
In summary: fuck that.
could i hack it as a temporary? maybe.
camberwell green nice?
and then Oxford Tube it from there is another option. Depends which part of Oxford you're going to though.
Camberwell's a good place, lived there a few years.
Camberwell's alright. I nearly lived there.
Oxford tube from Shepherds Bush to Headington in peak hour takes 1 hour 20 minutes & that's far west London to far east Oxford. The bulk of the time will be either side of those points in the cities themselves.
cat_race you're a dick street station
just shut up cat_race boulevard
cat_race smells like broken lard
You'd be fucking mental to commute that.
and yeah, i just decided it's too early to back to manc and just curl up in a ball
i'm just playing with the idea of going to london before i get a job, commuting up here til i get something there and i just saw an advert for a room that looks pretty good.
That would be far more doable (but admittedly it's not as saaaaaaarf London).
you'll spend shitloads more money, be exhausted all the time, and won't have the time to make the most of being in London because it'll take you 2 hours to get home from work at best. Just wait till you get a job in London and then make the move.
just commuting within london is bad enough
very much appreciated
a few months ago. Living in Sheffield and commuting to south Manchester, with plans to move to Manchester.
His house purchase fell through and he's been commuting for far longer than he planned. He looks like he might drop dead at any point and that's a 1 hr 30 min commute.
Imagine finishing a shit day at work and then doing that commute.
Sustained, long commutes are ultimately pretty damaging to your physical and mental wellbeing. They're really just not worth the bother.
Drive to Ruislip then tube / overground to Denmark Hill.
I'd estimate it takes 2 hr 15. Not a great commute, and I'm not even paying.
I did Brockley to Oxford for c. 6 months and it was pretty hellishly tiring. Leave at 5.30am, cycle to Paddington, get the 06:20, into work for 7.30, leave work at 4, Oxford Tube/X90 back to Victoria, cycle home. The bus home would take anywhere between 1.5 and 3 hours dependent on traffic.
It's expensive, exhausting and you have to go to bed really early, which is annoying when you get home late!
like the hassle, the enormous financial burden, the vast amounts of wasted hours, the getting up at the crack of dawn, and the going to bed while the sun is still up. No mention of the positives I see, like all that time he'd be spending on a train.
you've all convinced me that it's the worst idea since sliced bread
