Another Great Wall around our porn
given their constant harping on about a nanny state.
no it's not justified, not just from a censorship perspective but also in the sense parents are abdicating their responsibilities, largely (it seems) due to ignorance surrounding the technology their children are using.
of civil liberties. It is a pretty weird move.
I will be interested to see how this goes. I'm not ashamed of using pornography and nor should anyone really. Look at the statistics. It's by far the most popular stuff on the internet. As a species, we're clearly really into it. I think it comes with a lot of problems, but there's no shame in admitting you like looking at it, and it shouldn't be seen as a taboo, or perversion. It's our most common pastime.
It's about blocking "extremist" content, ie. stuff that's critical of the government.
We are slowly, over time, giving in to China's demands.
like the first step on a road no one wants to go down. But it just came out of nowhere, with no warning or discussion and there's nothing we can do about it.
since they took power. Huge, society-changing decisions that seem really tossed-off and casual. And largely, nobody's stood up to it. It's really unsettling.

"Asking for a friend"
When I was on O2, they already had this policy.
I remember opting in already
Sorry "my friend" remembers
Actually fuck it, I've nothing to hide - I couldn't get on to a perfectly legitimate, non-grotty website because of it. Was able to turn it off on my online account, which spared me phoning up and asking nicely to look at naughty webpages .
things like Facebook, Twitter and betting sites - not quite the same thing as good old Dave's porn wall.
Felt like an absolute cunt when I rang up to confirm I was over 18. Didnt end up doing it as it would cost £1 on a debit card though and I couldnt be bothered to give my details
if only for the fact that no one's going to want to be the person who stands up in the commons demanding we keep our rights to tug one out to whatever, wherever. I'm no expert but i'd imagine that could be spun to make you look bad
You could definitely stand up for it from a 'protecting the idea of a free internet' perspective and look good. That's what Google have done.
Ultimately, you should be able to stand up in the House Of Commons and talk openly about the fact it's the most popular form of entertainment in the country. It's kind of embarrassing that we're too repressed to even get to that point.
is one more geared towards the positives and negatives of porn, the treatment of women by the industry and why they all insist on getting fake tits and massive tattoos on their backs even though they look shite. instead it just becomes some avert thine eyes reactionary bullshit
Set a precedent for massive internet censorship with something people aren't likely to stand up for, pave the way for greater online surveillance and control. This government's a big, big fan of China.
If they were at all concerned about the treatment of porn stars and the very nasty underbelly of the industry they could have a go at tightly regulating and taxing the fuck out of it instead. Huge amount of public money to be made there. BBW chance of that happening though.
and I did not stand up; for my trousers were round my ankles
of what now?
It's only going to take one user profile or a thread like this one with the words porn and wank.
I can't imagine much of a riot goin' on tho.
Reports suggest that there have been 3 JAGs so far
because honestly if it's just a matter of clicking a button, not so bad. these stories always make me think you have to send a handwritten letter to your MP grovelling to have your filth back because you're a little sex pest.
then watch loads of porn... on principle
