Post a note to a user but do it publicly on here as you would in a private message.
From our stats it only looks like 100 or so people use the notes, and given how much extra time we had to spend on getting the fonts to work on old versions of windows and weird browser versions that people have, we haven't had time to fix things like this.
Few more fixes going up today tho.
but your reliance on those stats to justify the actions doesn't sit quite right with me. There are probably about 20 posters here who are prolific enough to keep posting, replying etc. which encourages others to visit, including lurkers. Many get a lot of flak for it and may talk a lot of shit, but I'd say if those users all stopped using the site, the post frequency would plummet and the casual users who probably make up the majority of the traffic would taper off.
Notes seem to me to be one of those things that said 20 would be more likely to use (though I may be wrong) so whilst I sympathise with the fact that you can't fix everything at once, I just hope you're prioritising for the right reasons.
The notes still work.
The email saying you have a new note still works.
The url to check notes still works.
The little counter doesn't.
Meanwhile, we have wanted to
Sort out the font so that 1000+ people using IE can read the boards
Fix issues with This-ing
Make our staff area functional (we were only just able to create photo galleries again)
Tidying up loads of little bugs including the adverts not loading properly which is how I keep the site going.
I'd much rather functionality like the last post and linear stuff was working again, rather than spending half a day (so £200) on figuring out cache issues with the new notes, which may then cause issues with threads and the topic lists.
There's a list of nearly 200 bugs still to fix, and they have to be prioritised somehow. And we won't be able to afford to fix everything as we just have one guy trying to do it all within a very tight budget (which we've long since gone over, and have had to borrow more money)
I am a prolific ^thisser and it has gotten out of control. I don't even really post any more, I just ^this things. Its a miserable existence.
let me know
The thread title screams '1984' at me for some reason
"PMing has never been more user friendly or popular. Confidence in PM's is 100%"
Seems like they've taken away loads of the stuff that made it good.
And by "guys" try "guy" we don't have a budget for a team of people - that would be some kind of dream.
To help make sense of things, the site was running on software (Rails) which was nearly 4 years old, and the programme running on it (Rails) was 3 years old - which is why things like speech marks were breaking. Both had to be upgraded so that we could move to a cheaper server (£600 a month instead of £1500+) which also allows me an element of being able to manage the database without spending two years learning how to do server admin (or paying something £350 a day every time something breaks). Hope that gives you a bit of context. If you all think you're frustrated, you can begin to imagine how frustrating this is for me. I want everything to work and function properly, but there are so many things broken or not quite working...
that the Quietus doesn't have a board mate, otherwise I'd have taken my custom elsewhere.
Please don't ban me my work life is incredibly dull.
It's the Sent Items you don't have a direct link to
so was just highlighting it.
