Good Vibrations (Fil-um)

NoahVale [Edit] [Delete] 16 replies 10:05, 13 November '13

Watched this last night. All about Terri Hooley - the man who brought punk rock to Belfast when everyone else was deserting the city because of the Troubles. Absolutely lovely film; that's the best way I can describe it. A really heart-felt, heart-warming picture about a guy who did all the wrong things for all the right reasons. Recommended

8/10

  • yeah, I saw it at the cinema earlier in the year

the bit when he hears Teenage Kicks for the first time :')))))

    • Lovely scene - even if you knew what was going to happen

I liked how they held off using Teenage Kicks on the soundtrack until that scene.

Aside: one of the reasons I didn't score it higher than 8/10 was the guy who played Peel. Put it this way - he was no Michael Sheen

      • *after that scene

  • I know a couple of people worked as extras in this

I have yet to see it though

  • Does the filum cover when he has a fight with John Lennon and John punches his eye out?

    • urban myth I think (probably made up by Malcolm MacLaren)

The first scene of the film shows how he lost his eye when he was a kid

      • I thought it was put about by hooley himself

        foppyish @NoahVale | 13 Nov '13, 11:08 | X
        • not that it actually happened

just that he likes to make things up

    • Urban myth (probably made up by Malcolm MacLaren)

It actually begins with a scene showing him losing his eye when he was a kid

      • I like how double posts are still a thing

but now they're about fifteen minutes apart

  • saw on a plane like yesterday

really enjoyed it! the guy who played terri was pretty great and i did kinda stick with him despite all his dumb mistakes. also obviously the soundtrack was really fun

    • did you spot Lily's dad getting thanked in the credits? :D

  • great filum

not convinced that all of the things in the filum actually happened* but there you are now

    • Fair point

I think with any biopic there is always an element of make-believe to further the point/story (see also e.g. The Damned United). But I think it captured the essence of the guy very well
