Christmas time off work

Epimer [Edit] [Delete] 59 replies 13:17, 6 November '13

What have you got booked off? What do you mean you haven't sorted it out yet?! It's November!

I have opened my bargaining position at all of Christmas week, which would net me nine consecutive days off for three days of annual leave. Bargain.

The big boss might want me to work through, because it's sort of my turn. My counter-argument is that I'm too useless to be left here unsupervised. This is a fairly high risk strategy.

  • ive got

    12/12/13
    then 20/12/13 - 3/1/14 (17 consecutive days off!)

  • applied for the 23rd till 6th off

    flatly refused

currently failing really badly at keeping my fury at this under wraps

    fitzcarraldo | 6 Nov '13, 13:19 | X
    • that is quite a while

I think I had something ridiculous like 16 straight days off last year, most of it back home.

It was too much. I was chewing my arm off to get away by the end.

      • aye i love to hibernate at christmas

see my family for a bit and spend the rest of the time drunk, watching films and playing too much GTA

reason given for refusal - none at present

      • We get that as a closure day

will probably take 3rd Jan off too, so I can go back on the 6th!

    grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr.
I don't know and i own't know until the last minute. The uncertainty is so annoying (even though I don't have to worry about booking flights home or anythinglike that, for the first time in a long time.)

  • First time in 3 years I've actually got some time off at Christmas

10 days from the 20th which depressingly means coming back to work on my birthday but at least the office will be empty so I won't have to buy people cakes.

    Smyth2 | 6 Nov '13, 13:25 | X

  • I think I have to work 23rd and 24th

which is slightly annoying but I've confirmed the 27th off at least which is good news. I can't stand the thought of coming into work for one day between Xmas and the weekend.

    we_blew_it | 6 Nov '13, 13:26 | X

working those 2 days off betweem xmas and new year though. poop

  • We've got 20th - 6th off

At a cost of 5 days of A/L. Pretty good!

Think I'll head home for most of it, with a few trips to see friends dotted around just before Christmas and then on NYE.

  • UPDATE:

Negotiations swiftly concluded. Got what I wanted.

Leaves me with four more days to take before the end of the year, too. Wunderbar.

Got the 19th until the 2nd off. Love it. Absolutely love it.

  • Always worked christmas (even christmas day twice) from 16 - 26

Had 11 days off this year and it was rubbish. Nothing to do. Everyones got commitments. Would rather take 5/6 days off when I can do something. Pretty annoying having people with kids getting priority, but, thems the breaks.

  • As it stands, I'm working Xmas eve, then off until the 2.

This holiday costs 0 days of annual leave, and equals 8 days off

For a spend of 4 days annual leave, I can upgrade to the bonus holiday package, which means finishing on the 20th and back in on the 6th, so a glorious 16 days worth of holiday.

    I'm going to upgrade.

I'd rather pick up a book, or a phone, or a guitar, or a pen, or ANYTHING than think "I'm looking forward to getting back to work, I'm bored of this now". But, each to their own.

but can maybe get out of it. Don't really mind that much.
Strangest christmas day I worked was at a homeless hostel. Just me there. Even the homeless had better places to be than in a hostel on xmas day. Just sat eating chocolates and watching xmas tv

  • At this point

I'm knocking it on the head on Thursday the 19th and going back in on the 6th. I've got a day and a half of leave still to use though so may call it a day at lunch time on Wednesday 18th. 18.5 consecutive days.

    DillingersWheelman | 6 Nov '13, 18:57 | X
  • managed to get the 24th to the 27th inclusive

which isn't too bad, all things considered. Have to work the weekend of the 28th/29th though, so I only get 4 days back home. Pretty jealous of people whose workplaces close for 2 weeks.
