It's become a common way for the 'artist/writer' to get cash monies without losing 'cred'
Also, it sidesteps the music supervisor having to deal with both label & publisher - having only too deal with the publisher to license the song and then having it covered in-house or by someone much cheaper than the actual original artist

I'd like to see more adverts with
an overly breathy girl singing an acoustic version of a classic song.
You are going to have one hell of a Christmas
Exit light.... enter night...
I'm enjoying these as they get more and more absurd
a bit like that bloke from x factor last night who did a very oddly earnest cover of girls just wanna have fun. what are you doing mate
When i saw that my immediate thoughts were it was better than the original. Can't believe
Don't really watch x factor as a rule but seriously how many times do they say
I've made my decision.........................................................................
goiy just wanna have foiy
^ Cant Believe the Kooks haven't covered it.
You know Cyndi Lauper's version isn't the original right?
.
The original is bloody brilliant.

that was great
the other contestant watching and mouthing the words with tears in his eyes :DDD
What irks me more than this is when
adverts chop out bits of the song so that they can concatenate just the lyrical portions. Really grates when you know the song in question.
