DiS v Dragon FT // 11-a-side Football // Sunday 6th October // 2 PM
Islington Tennis Centre
Market Road
N7 9PL
www.aquaterra.org/market-road-football-pitches.aspx
Another team we have never played before and know nothing about. They play in the Thai UK Chang Beer League, which must mean they are better drinkers than us (not that difficult). They do have their own website (www.clubwebsite.co.uk/dragonft/257637/Home), if you want to have a sneak preview at player profiles.
As always with international friendlies, we'll have a proper FA referee (this time: the "lovely ref"), so bring your shinpads and practice those throw-ins. And try not to kick our balls over the fence/on the roof/in the garden for a change.
In other news, expect an offcial announcement on the Exeter road trip very soon. The final pieces are put in place at this very moment.
Usual details:
- we play on a full-sized astro-turf pitch
- there are basic changing and toilet facilities
- 5 min walk from Caledonian Road tube station (Piccadilly line)
- arrive at 1:30 PM for warm-up, tactics discussion, pre-match fags, team pictures, etc.
- full 2 x 45 minutes and injury time + 15 min break
- normal FA rules, but with rolling subs
- shirt colour to be confirmed (but most likely red)
- final team will be announced on the Thursday before the game
- 6 pounds per player will be collected on the day
- post-match analysis in the nearby Hemingford Arms pub
You know the drill by now: sign up below if you want to be considered for selection. Applications from specialists (e.g. goalkeepers and centre backs) will be viewed favourably.

What is it with all the DiS football fellas getting testicle troubles?

Potentially in
Need to check with the wife whether I'm allowed or not
2pm right?
see you there.
Just got back from 2 months out with fucked ankle ligaments
but be interested to play at some point. What's the standard like?
I am slow as fuck after various ankle and knee injuries but not completely shit on the ball.
Slow as fuck and not completely shit on the ball
sounds a bit above the general standard tbh.
Probably best to sign up for one of the regular 11-a-side matches first,
rather than an international friendly. Looks like the next one is at the beginning of November.
got a bit of speed when I get going
just very little acceleration after knackering both ankles at Uni and being too lazy to go to the doctors/hospital/physio.
Don't wear blades on 3G guys. Real bad idea.
Mostly played 5-a-side for past 4-5 years 11-a-side sounds a bit like hard work.
skrillex conference sOUTh

that might freak me out!
But yeah, love the football, maaaaaaan
Didn't know who you were, pal
We got a lot of random spectators on the side of the pitch, but DiS football is a friendly crowd.
IN if you want my heroic return to be in an international friendly
if James is IN then I'll play as a tough-tackling defensive free role, y'know, a hardman unleashed
I know I hardly post and am basically unknown to everyone
But if you find yourselves in desperate need of a once talented defender with chronic knee problems then let me know.

I'm liking the look of that
are the wide players wingers, or midfielders?
i need to know how much shit i can give them.
Midfielders (at least to start with)
Depends a bit on how our opposition plays.
you hear that guys?
I'm an ATTACKING midfielder, just to be clear
You'll be attacking the opposition players
with your defensive skills
Waffle and I are going to keep it in the oppositions corner from the 1st minute

Hanging on the Hoogyphone
what a way to treat a club legend..
I can only apologise
But after the subbing controversy in the last friendly we'll have to limit the number of people we turn up with at these matches.
Remember: 2 PM @ Market Road

thought about The Exorcist (Holy Trinity versus...Unholy Trinity idk) but...nah
Goalscorers:
Sam (from close range), Joe (header) and Dan (curler from the edge of the box)
Joe's was a curler from the edge of the box too
of sorts...
Woah, what's with the goal descriptions?
Chill out Barney Ronay!
Just making sure that people who weren't there
know what they missed out on ...
Draw = fair result
Their equaliser was slightly against the run of play, so in that sense we *should* have won, but they were all over us for the last 10 minutes so we did well to hold the draw in the end.
Thought Matt and Dave were great at centre-back, and Anthony had a good debut at full back too. Loui(e/s) had a brilliant second half in defensive mid, completely destructive.
Highlights:
meths' relieved/sad face after scoring
the ref not giving any handballs
the crab not passing to anyone, ever
hoogy's heart-in-mouth goalline slice
james jumping up and down shouting and punching the crossbar after said goalline slice
Good game, lads.
Why did meths look sad? Did he remember the Snickers cheeescake?
I wish we could play against The Crab in every game.
we do, don't we?
If only ohgood, if only...
He's a sad man, I guess
It was the sort of expression you might make if you'd just come out of a meeting with your boss where you thought you were going to get fired but you just got a bit of a telling off instead. Sort of 'Phew, glad that's over'.
i thought the shot was a bit flukey.
not good to celebrate flukes.
the build up play was lovely tho.
Oh right
Where the hell were you trying to hit it?
well, at the goal obviously,
just got a bit lucky with the shit keeper i think.
^A sad but humble man
Enjoyed the crab taking throw ins in his half of the pitch, despite being a striker.
Decent game. Felt a bit unsatisfied, and thought we shouldve put it to bed before they got the equaliser. But given the pressure we were coming under towards the end, maybe a draw is an ok result.
Lovely, lovely pass from Chris for my goal. Chris was great all game actually. Ben was always a great outlet and did some great running. James in goal as always was fantastic.
Not an excuse, but I rolled my ankle in the first half, so couldnt run as fast for the rest of the game. Sorry.
MVP - Louie the invisible wall.
credit to our (not supposed to be) front 4, who defended from the front, bayern style.
I don't care how shit I played
1 goal and 1 assist rockets my all time DiS stats up to 1 goal and 1 assist. Eat that Stewart Downing.
Dunno if anyone's mentioned how well James played in goal yet
Cleared up more through balls, one on ones, goal mouth scrambles, and close range shots than I can remember.
Good game, good fun,
Bit annoyed at myself for overthinking the shot after doing a really good 1-2 with Sam.
Shame we conceded so near the end, but we had been soon well to keep them out. LJ and GKJames were incredible. Bens work rate is amazing as well, especially when he then told me he'd already played once that day.
Thanks for treating me gently
Had good fun albeit the rust of having not played for a while showed in some of my defending. Have to say Dave was excellent at marshaling the defence into line.
Well played guys
Despite the frustration of conceding an equaliser when we were well on top, a draw was a fair reflection of the game overall. Some scrambled clearances and heroic blocks from the defence and James kept us in it.
I think we played some decent football at times, and even when we had periods of being on the back foot, we still tried to keep the ball on the floor, passing it around the midfield and finding gaps to send the front 3 through. Sometimes it didn't work and there were individual errors, but I'd rather lose the ball trying to play properly, you know? Anyway, well done all, was an enjoyable game.
Matt impressed on debut and almost goes without saying that we relied on James. Ben was really useful as ever, great to have him back in the team. Nice goals from the Smee bros.
Enjoyed how rubbish (for the most part) the Crab was. Didn't enjoy how high-pitched he was.
My first experience of the Lovely Ref - found him to be as advertised.
More waffle:
Louis was superb. Welcome back, L-dogg.
We were really dangerous from corners, which was pleasing but somewhat unexpected. Joe scored from a Will floater, and I should have buried a brilliant delivery from Ben. More of that in future, please.
I should have scored a second from another Will corner
There was literally no-one on the far side of the penalty spot apart from me, Will delivered it to me perfectly but I was at a running stretch and scuffed the shot.
We took some great corners and had some great chances from them
so it's fitting that the only one we scored from was a terrible miskick :D
Enjoyed that!
Thought we largely did well. Dan was always an option to pass to & the forward players did a lot of intelligent running. Defensively we more or less held our shape against some tricky forward play & Dave did very well indeed, aberration for 1st goal aside. James was enormous as usual. A good match-up and a deserved result; we should play them again.
