Blue Jasmine
Anyone else planning to see this? Lots of positive talk about it lately (though I probably shouldn't go into it expecting something up there with the stuff he did through to the mid-90s).

I COULD have let this be one of the great 0 reply threads of our time
but this is probably easier than starting my own.
It was very good, a lot more dramatic than perhaps suggested by the trailers (or maybe not idk) and a reminder that Woody can do really sharp character driven drama at times. It was still very funny in parts but there was a deep sense of melancholia throughout.
Cate Blanchett was pretty amazing as hyped too. Not sure what else I thought.
Cate Blanchett's performance
is incredible, as was Sally Hawkins. Really loved this, even if the flat that Sally Hawkins' character was in which was supposed to be horrible was actually great.
ha yeah it was a nice flat
San Francisco is so beautiful as well, made me want to go back.
I liked it
Maybe a little condescending in its portrayal of the working-class characters, but the acting was great all round and I liked how they structured it with the constant shifting back and forth between Jasmine's old life and her present one.
I dunno though
the message I took is that people are pretty selfish regardless of class
I was hoping for more of Louis CK
But aside from that I liked it. Certainly one of his strongest films.
didn't mean to this that
I've not seen it
Dreaming of a Louis lead Woody Allen film.
I hear Andrew Dice Clay is good in it too
Who'd've thunk it
he is!
Really great film.
Cate Blanchett was uncomfortably convincing, must be in with a strong chance of winning the Best Woman Actor Oscar.
Spent aaaages trying to remember where I recognised Chilli from before realising he's that terrifying mobster from Boardwalk Empire.
Best Woman Actor :D
I thought this was great.
I'm shit at describing films, but I'll say it was one of the most rounded things I've seen this year. Cate Blanchett was brilliant, as was Chili. It's basically a modern comedy of manners in a lot of ways.
the best line was
'it's not a perfume... Al calls it a fragrance'.
nah best line is where Chilis kicking off in the store
and the manager comes over and is like 'would you like to sit in my office?' and chili replies with 'NO THANKS BUT I APPRECIATE THE OFFER
The supermarket Manager is my all time hero.
Can I offer you a kleenex?
i realy can't wait to see this.
I might go to the cinema tonight, if I am still awake at 6pm.
i was a big fan of Eddie too
Guys
All Woody Allen films are shit. Be thankful you're not 40+, you don't have to pretend to like them.
nah
Yeah
Even the critically untouchable old ones before everyone realised he was a bit shit.
nah
Watched Manhattan last night
loved it
Nah, in the 70s and 80s
he was one of the greatest filmmakers ever.
i
thought it wa a great film.
The bit where the dentist got a bit rapey was uncomfortable though: the audience in the cinema started off laughing and then stopped when they all realised it wasn't supposed to be funny...
Cate gives a great performance of someone with mental issues.
yeah people laughed at that too when I saw it
found it weird
I saw it as a scene that's deliberately intended
to go from being funny and awkward to suddenly being really uncomfortable
Saw this last night
Still not sure what to make of it. I didn't leave me feeling anything.
Cate was WELL GOOD. I wanted more Louis C.K.
