it's The Sun
and the joke of it being diana on the front page everyday isnt even a joke. Its true.
Seeing the Diana conspiracy theories almost every day when I deliver it on my paper round gives me a genuine good chuckle.
I do occasionally like skimming the sidebar of shame.
Genuinely dangerous publication. Horrid to the core.
Credit where credit's due for the Lawrence killers headline. Everything else about the paper is poison. And I say that with no hint of hyperbole.
Fish in barrel, sure.
really awful stuff.
as the Mail were all set to do a hatchet job on the family and the campaign until the personal connection was made to Dacre: http://www.butireaditinthepaper.co.uk/2012/01/05/the-daily-mails-initial-coverage-of-the-stephen-lawrence-murder/
we get it in the office canteen, and the amount of times people skim read the headline and make loud twattish statements based on them is amazing. I have actually started underlining and putting stars next to the quotes buried at the end of the article which directly oppose or disprove the glib headline. Things like "NOW the EU want to ban YOU from eating BRITISH beef" or whatever, then the quote says "a spokesman last night advised there are currently no plans to ban any form of British beef or meat product". Then inevitably no such ban happens, but people still moan about it anyway.
Someone else here will put it more eloquently/acutely than me. It's just that they seem to try to influence readers opinions in certain instances, but they're just not clever enough.
And they take real umbridge to readers pointing out that they've balls'd up (quite rightly so, in most cases) when they should be apologetic.
Really irritating, annoying newspaper that seems to revel in the fact that everyone reads it.
how very crass of them
It's a glorified pamphlet.
for a free paper than everyone on a bus or train read each day, it could be a lot worse. They have local whats-on and restaurant review things, plus they are reasonably impartial really, they will have a letters page with opposing views in it, rather than something like the Sun's which just prints 15 sentences all saying exactly the same thing.
was the worst thing ever to come from music criticism. So fucking po-faced and serious.
imagine being the even shitter version of the sun
has integrity, at least
Yeah the guardian is a bit crap - but if you actually think it's THE WORST NEWSPAPER - then you have actual brain damage.
If you're making some kind of tough guy stance then fair enough - hope you grow out of it.
its true. Wouldn't read anything other than "i". And even that's bogged down with editorial nonsense and half of its lifestyle crap
It's horrendously pro-Boris, which is terrible for a London-based newspaper. Not because Boris is awful per se, rather it's important to critique anyone in power, or anyone aspiring to power.
The paper makes no connection between the financial industry it cheerleads and the poverty it campaigns against. It's devoid of any concept of 'society'. It sees society as gratuitous photographs of the Johnsons or whoever Lebedev recently entertained.
Plus, it prints the greatest London property supplement every week. It's full of adverts on buy-to-let seminars, interviews with wealthy families and eye-watering property prices. It is devoid of a moral compass.
But the one that pisses me off the most is The Guardian, because I actually read it from time to time.
