such is the regularity of this kind of event
my reaction was more 'urgh for fucks sake' than 'argh that's horrible' and I think it's mainly down to the American Government and populations complete and utter reluctance to actually do something about it.... like ya know... gun control.
can't bring myself to say anything other than "m'eh"
Plus its only 4 people? Not even bothered unless its at least 50
What letters are you omitting with the use of the apostrophe there?
i'm not convinced these incidents happen all that disproportionately in the US given the population, like, but there are obvious steps that could be taken to make them happen less frequently.
The US has 5 times the population of the UK, and 500 times as many people killed by guns (excluding suicides).
UK - 1.2 per 100,000
US - 4.8 per 100,000
US is 4.8
UK is 1.2
per 100,000 inhabitants
Thats almost 5
and this is not related to the thread really so i apologise, but can someone show some similar stats based on deaths related to alcohol in the US and the UK?
US is 1.6
UK is 1.1
according to http://www.worldlifeexpectancy.com/cause-of-death/alcohol/by-country/
US is 1.5
UK is 2.1 for drug use deaths
US is 123.8
UK is 137 for all cancers
US is 10.3
UK is 6.9 for suicide
going to stop now, this is pretty morbid
it doesn't include drunk driving or whatever
It varies a bit from year to year (and the above statistic was based on 2009), but in 2011 for example 11,101 people were murdered by guns in the US. In the same year, only 31 people in the UK were murdered by guns. That is a ratio of 358.
Since 2001 the rate of gun deaths per 100,000 people in the US has been unchanged.
did you not watch the wire?
as tell the US to make meaningful changes to gun laws.
everyone have fun playing their game where they go round shooting loads of innocent people in america tomorrow. mourn tonight, then virtual spree tomorrow, eh?
i'm gonna go and have a shower, and think about what I've done. sorry everyone.
interesting in the sense it's been done to death and every single time the evidence is inconclusive and most rational people just accept the fact violence has been around ever since Sex In The City and just move on with their lives as an angry politician tries to pass a bill in congress making it illegal to not tetris a tetris like a tetris should.
or any sort of causality...i don't buy that shit.
just saying....a mass shooting in america just as everyone is wetting their pants for a game that people love for being able to go on mass killing sprees in america....i dunno...
surely there is something here that someone more intelligent than me can pick up without remotely getting into BAND THIS FILTH territory, which is really not what i'm going for.
i just think...for example, would you have been happy playing a game where you can fly planes into buildings the day after 9/11?
or if it was remembrance day, and you started playing a knockabout world war 2 romp, blowing shit up with witty catchphrases after every death and mega nazi death lolz..
wouldn't you just pause and consider, even for a split second?
is it so wrong to consider that there might be a pause?
in the same way that a young girl getting kidnapped might lead the bbc to pull that drama on the same night about the girl getting kidnapped...
just to make completely clear....or that these games shouldn't happen, or be played and loved and enjoyed.
I'M JUST SAYING....yknow...
Sadly the average person's ability to play and enjoy GTAV is far, far more important to them than thinking about the deaths of four people they never knew. And you can't blame them, really.
everyone should have a minute silence before they begin playing tomorrow....i dunno..
i don't even know what i'm saying. someone tell me. i'm going to bed.
brb off to play video games
:D (Im being deliberately provocative)
they like doing that sort of thing rather than trying to tackle causes of stuff
