Can we make this a GTA thread? SO FUCKING EXCITED.
http://i.imgur.com/CybzA1r.gif for scale... holy crap.
Obviously size isn't everything, I think it's great that you'll get plenty of open space for flying and driving and stuff, as well as a massive city.
so might get this.
it's not very enjoyable though, maybe a 7/10?
Games reviewers really are getting harsh these days ;)
To be fair, I only picked it up in the last Steam sale and haven't finished chapter 1 yet, so can't really comment beyond it keeping me interested so far.
but it's not very enjoyable and calling it average would be a disservice :P
I've heard similar criticisms elsewhere :)
It's the greatest work of satire, ever
Not going to factor in 3 or 4 because by that point Sr became a completely different game
"This is shit, I can't ride a flying unicorn that shits dildos onto gimps in jetpacks".
GTA4 is more accomplished in almost every single way.
I think people's enjoyment of SR games derives more from the, er, colourful situations it puts you in, rather than how the gameplay actually feels. A car chase or on-foot shootout in GTA4 feels a lot more tense and exciting to me, because everything has more weight and reacts to other objects in the game world more realistically and consistently. All the poo-spraying trucks in the world doesn't change that.
Add to that the fact that you probably need to be in tune with SR's humour to find it entertaining - to be honest, I just don't find it that funny. You can revel in the gimps and plastic willies for a bit, but the actual writing is pretty poor.
they look a bit rubbish
Just to get an idea of what GTA could turn into if R* actually took all the internet whining to heart.
See it as a cautionary tale.
imagine a four foot rubber dildo emblazoned with the word 'ZANY!' in florescent letters slapping against a human face - forever.
they changed direction in Saints Row 3
But yes, I had more fun in SR 2 and 3.... GTA may have been more polished and high brow but it was a lot duller.
it completely lacks soul and forgot what made the previous games so brilliant
Christ. I've read so much utter cock written about GTAIV I'm convinced I played a different version to everyone else.
I could never get into it. Multiplayer was great fun though.
Just play that
I don't have a console anymore but I'm also super sceptical as to how well it will run on consoles... that and I have like 100 games I still need to play which are just sitting on my harddrive taking up clusters.... compulsive spender :(
set in a huge world with no load times.
Im also a bit weary of how much lag your gonna experience when there loads of cars/npcs on screen or how much pop-in you will experience. I doubt it will be game breaking but its my only fear when considering how good its gonna be.
What they will release on the 17th will no doubt be a broken wreck of a game that pales in comparison to its PC equivalent
run pretty badly on, in particular the Xbox 360, this year...
+ It's entirely possible the game was originally intended for next gen consoles but the constant delay and longer than expected cycle lead to them going safe and scaling back in order to get the gang buster sales rather than risking it on the new platform.
have all been from the PS3 version, it could be quite telling about the 360 one.
i'll be playing it on ps3. I dont give a shit about the PC version.
My point is that in my mind this is gonna be the best game ive ever played and everything ive seen suggests that. Im just wary of it suffering from technical issues due to the limitations of the consoles.
are gonna come out bug free.
Huh? It's a game that's made specifically for consoles though? If anything the PC version is likely to be inferior, ie GTA IV
PC MASTER RACE
The 360 and PS3 are over 5 years old. That's a huge time in computing power, etc.
While consoles are designed to have extra stuff going on to optimise things, it's possible that if he built a souped up games PC in the last 12 months that it can run the game way better.
Not sure why you're getting so butt hurt over the concept that a console from so long ago might not be the cutting edge of processing. Were you going to upgrade to PS4 or XBox One or did you just decide they were the same machine with a new outer casing?
that's why I'm getting questioned... but my point is I think in order to achieve what they want to achieve on such old hardware (8 years old in the Xbox case) I cannot see it being well optimized so I'm going to wait for the inevitable GOTY editions for either PS4, PC and XBone because I honestly do believe this was what the game was originally designed to run on but the installed used base isn't high enough to release on these platforms just yet... so they will release it in a few months time with nicer textures, better framerate, draw distance as well as all the DLC and double dip it's customers.
You can have the most powerful computer in the world, won't make any difference if the game itself is buggy, rushed, and under-optimized for a certain platform.
As I said earlier... GTA IV was an absolute mess on PC when it first dropped because of this.
so I'm not sure why you're putting so much faith in the PC version
and these next gen versions will be built on the same Architecture as the PC unlike last generation.
I completely forgot about possible next gen versions. Here's hoping maybe those ones will have the rest of San Andreas...
but you'd like to use a completely different basis on which to judge things, one you hadn't previously brought up?
Okay, Agatha Christie. Good work.
don't know why we're taking this so seriously considering a PC version is purely hypothetical right now.
I think you were wrong in saying that it depends on how powerful his PC is. Logically, as you said, the game ought to run better on a higher specced PC, but unfortunately it's not always like that, as has been proven in the past by poorly ported games. Also, it's not all about power. Show me some PC games that look better than say The Last of Us and I'll be surprised. It's all about how much skill the developers have at utilizing the system.
that to me it read like ducky was citing technology as a factor that could make this game less than great on the current consoles so he wasn't going try it out.
Your response seemed to be a fairly chippy one that presumed this was borne entirely of some kind of PC snobbery, and I was questioning that.
I can't actually come back with any examples because I've not played PC games for years. I will say that my experience of viewing PS3 game graphics was, "oh really?". It's not that they were bad or anything, I just didn't think they were a massive leap up from what I'd seen previously. Undoubtedly there will have been some amazing stuff put out there.
The fact that gaming manufacturers are generally steering clear of the PC (or so it seemed from recent stuff), probably due to piracy, doesn't likely help either.
The last PC game I played properly was Half-Life 2 and that was with a lower-spec graphics card and processor than optimal. It looked pretty incredible back then.
But then we probably all agree that graphics are a garnish and we'd rather play a great game with bland polygon graphics than something that looked amazing and was dull as fuck, so it's all a little strawman.
yeah the PC comment was tongue-in-cheek.
It's a real shame that they have been, I feel like that's really been holding the industry back in a way. Although I guess it's nice not having to update the graphics card every fortnight.
Half-Life 2 *still* looks good, it seems to have a timeless art style, same with Team Fortress in that way that they weren't aiming for photo-realism, which can look a bit uncanny-valley and age quickly, but more a smooth art style that's easy on the eyes. Don't know how to explain it, it just looks good.
Agree completely, far too much focus on graphics this generation, why it's good to see an indie-game revival.
the bad news is this is a policy Rockstar doesn't seem to stand behind. It's gotten to the point where 'console exclusives' in the next gen will be out on one console but also PC... viva la REVELOUTION PC MASTER RACE etc etc etc.
was nice of them to put together a "just good pop" station
Can I like play alongside a mate of mine online like? For example, I drive whilst he shoots innocent people?
One of the thing I'm most excited for. You can do all sorts of things together, rob banks and other missions
Bring on this time next week eh
i haven't played one since vice city, and everyone getting excited is making me think maybe i should.
i don't have the time or money....but it could be great, right?
also, i have a copy of red dead that i haven't played yet. maybe that first is the more sensible option.
Have other shit to play BUT I completed my most recent undertaking last night so this could slide in the gap nicely. Loved VC, bought SA and enjoyed aspects of it but found the mundane everyday chores and sheer size meant that whilst I had some great fun (airraids on naval bases, helicopter missions, dirtbike challenges, driving timed races) it consumed days of my life and got crazily repetitive.
Might wait for a few reviews on how good the single player is first as the (brilliant looking) multiplayer missions will likely never get touched by me.
Early previews do sound insane though. I'll likely buy it after playing Tomb Raider and that'll keep me busy until PS5.
SA just felt bigger and better.
I'm all about GTA online though, should be amazing.
Will probably only do 4 missions.
Unless a lot of the map is locked off (probably likely) ill just explore at my own pace
Open from the beginning. I don't know how I'm going to focus.
That you'd be an idiot to even attempt a rampage before the 5000 hour mark, probably a better bet to go bowling instead
and I've not played a Grand Theft Auto game (barring 10 minutes at a mate's house and all I did was run around punching people for driving into the sea) since about 1998. But I'm really bored. I might buy this.
It looks like the Hulk roaring (the lake is his mouth) and pounding a metal-clad fist into the ground.
nice spot. Have to say reminds me more of Thing though
parching the land and cracking it like a sub-continent wicket
Seems to be the diving missions?
there's going to be sharks, isn't there :(
yours, anxious PC user
console/whatever fanboyism is just outright bizarre though
They just don't want to cannibalize console sales.
(BTW couple of reports it is going to get 8/10 marks as it has terrible pop-up)
Honestly, if they can capture half of what GTA:SA had I'd be happy. To be honest, fixing the gameplay would be enough.
Asked my brother and he says it it 8/10 on PS3 and could potentially be a 7/10 on the 360. The frame rate/pop-up is noticeably worse on 360 and the main reason they have been doing all the previews on ps3 based architecture. Apparently a couple of times when he has seen big explosions on 360 it almost does that frame by frame slow motion freeze frame effect and takes a bit longer than it should time to sort itself out.
My brother says he cant tell me much more other than but he says it was a retail copy of both he was playing and not a preview one
then they're fools...
on the back of the box or in a press release
as it's not the best thing ever and it's got such a low score which seems to happen everytime there's a hyped game.
lol, have you played it have you?
yeah a few people here have been a bit skeptical about the graphics, looked too good to be true for consoles that have moved on a bit
that Rockstar basically threatened reviewers giving it less than a 10.? I very much doubt you will see any 8's and definitely no 7's.
really? where did you hear this?
but really strong ones. Theres quotes which i cant be bothered to dig up now saying Rockstar are the most aggressive regarding review scores. GTA4 all the reviewers had to play the game in a hotel room with rockstar PR there. Considering they probably spend huge amounts of ad dollars with the sites its hard not to see pressure being applied there.
Cant remember what site it was but they put up a GTA4 score of 9.5 before taking it down and replacing it with a 10. They said it was a mistake but its hard to see that being true. There was rumours of fallouts at EDGE over a couple of GTA scores. GTA4 changed from a 9 to a 10 apparently on the way to publication.
Reviewers usually get game manuals which basically read like reviews saying what words can and cant be used. Could probably pull up 10 examples of two different sites reviewing a game and using the same words not mentioning technical problems. Can remember AC:Brotherhood pissing me off massively with this. Game would slowdown to a snailspace at time and had some of the worst screen-tearing ive seen but no review mentioned it. Bear in mind Ubisoft took games reviewers to Rome - to experience what the game would feel like in real life. Of course that might influence peoples thoughts.
take off the foil hat
Cant say much but you are wrong
Can't tell if trolling or not
have they just gotten rid of San Fierro and that?
but Los Santos looks bigger than all those cities combined on its own.
I'm thinking we might see San Fierro and Las Venturas in the expansion packs maybe?
should be here tomorrow!! :D
by bad/good fortune Ive got friday, monday and tuesday booked off work. :D
In fact, wasn't there talk of it not dispatching till Monday? Where did you order it from. I'm doing that NOW.
but she always delivers the goods
ive used them before and theyre great, got a promise to dleiver preorders on day of release, which usually results in them being early. happened with everything ive preorderd with them
I'm not changing mine though. I'll have to drop another 5er on it.
i was going to wait til after i come back from my visit home...but ararrrhgghgh
(It seems to have done the opposite of a threadsmash)
and not like a smaller city or a big town or something similar towards the top of the map. If that makes sense.
Other than that looks fucking great, and I cannot wait.
the big city in this one is bigger than the entire map of GTA3. I imagine a lot of the smaller little hamlets oop north are actually quite large.
Seriously though, it looks ACE. Hope the character customisation in multiplayer is better than the shitty shit one they had in GTA 4.
you could never pull the person out as the door would be locked so you'd have to snipe them first. but if they saw you before you could kill them, rather than jumping out and running off they'd just try and drive off. at about 5 miles an hour. That or seeing how far you can get riding a bmx off the side of a mountain before falling off and dying.
on the same lines (heh) as trains were used previously.
and it has ruined every sandbox game besides Crackdown and Infamous for me as a result*
*and Just Cause 2
trying to turn a corner more than 190 degrees was a chore. So rubbish. They screwed up what should have been the most enjoyable aspect of the game in favour of realism.
It kinda killed things for me.
because the cars handled more like cars this made it fun
if i wanted realistic cars then i'd play gran turismo
see also: hulk and thing
I'm curious to see how the game is focussed really, as a lot of the hype seems to centre around the online/open world dicking about aspect.
Hopefully the single player story will still be the substatial core of the game and satisfying enough in it's own right as I'm not sure I'll bother spending too much time going off piste.
Still, expecting this to be pretty good (but obviously not as good as Rayman Legends)
HAVE YOU NO SOUL
If I had loads of spare time and there weren't loads of other great games to play it might be different.
Once I've done a mission I might have a play about for half hour or so afterwards, but ultimately if it's a toss up between spending a couple of hours playing something else (like Puppeteer maybe) or cycling up a mountain in GTA just for the sake of it I'd probably go for the former.
Mostly I play really immersive games than require dedication. It's good at being fun and it'll be even better at it when it's online.
Sorry, open goal.
dipping into free mode on GTA 4 was the most fun. Spent ages driving around the airport shooting rocket launchers at people.
all the missions are exactly the same... drive to here, now drive to here. now get in a different car and drive to there.
go start a saints row thread
but I'm too busy having fun playing Saints Row 2,3 and 4... and less free time because I'm not stuck in traffic or waiting for neeko's cousin to invite me to bowling.
Kinda interested to see how that plays out. Could be Breaking Bad the game.
gaming has such a scope to craft lengthy, compelling and original stories it'd be good to see something to hit dramatic highs
It's out on Xbox 360 right? Not the new one?!
or ps3 if you want the game to be actually playable
so we can multiplay
Vice City>San Andreas>GTAIV>Chinatown Wars>GTAIII>GTA>GTA London>GTA2
i might put gta3 up at the top just for how groundbreaking and awesome it was playing it for the first time. Proper WTF, especially with the hidden jumps. And the mute character. It was just awesome, especially as a kid.
HOW THE FUCK...?? moments
loved san andreas though
every song from every radio station in one playlist! (except for the ones they didn't have, which as a handful).
Wow, forgot about that. I loved that it said BROWN BREAD when you died.
'gouranga' guys were a line of bobbies
I had it on PSone, it was a massive ball ache to get loaded. Swapping CDs etc.
when you couldn't do a gouranga
best feature in GTA 1 & 2
that expansion single handily made GTA IV worth a damn
though probably because I played San Andreas first
Vice City>GTAIII>GTA>GTA London>GTA2>San Andreas>GTAIV
but it was awful and put me off GTA games for years
but after IV I certainly can't be bothered with this new one - drive from place to place and shoot people - and repeat. And the storyline/setting just isn't that enthralling to me
I've always hoped for a Tokyo based one or something
I remember reading about that being a possibility in Gamesmaster (?) yeeeears ago and thinking that would be absolutely class.
unlike the WiiU fanboy's boycotting Rayman Legends for going multiplatform..... seriously nerds can be really ruddy pathetic.
just posted it for teh lulz
From what I've read on here it's going to play badly. I'm looking forward to this game so tell me it isn't so. Give me hope Joanna!
I'm not buying a ps3
mine is all theory based on what I know the Xbox 360 CAN do and what rockstar WANT it to do.
However the guy with the friend seems pretty adamant that my theory is correct, what I'll do is wait for the review and see if the is a patch to help optimize performance.
he said not on PS3 or 360 during normal gameplay, but as soon as there is an explosion on 360 it grinds quite a bit. Also says there is a lot of open expanse that he got the feeling used to have had Places of Interest but are now just generic forest/road. (I can only think that the game was delayed as they have had to remove a bit of stuff on the map to make it run correctly on both machines - But this is my opinion not from my brother, he says he cant say much about that as wasnt involved when they first saw the previews of it so doesnt know if bits are now missing, just that it looks like they are)
Would piss you off a bit if you spent 5 years+ making a game and some dork gets it and decides your coding isnt good enough and decides to change all the cars into horses.
and Uncle Sony and Aunty Microsoft pay big dollars to retain that.
with no budget what so ever, like what happened in GTA IV
You know what FUCK rockstar, I'm only supporting companies that allow complete mod support *throws bags of money at Volitian'
Slightly soul destroying for a developer that
with improved performance... in other words not only does it look better it also runs better... which defies all logic but it was a lazy port. I always find it as fascinating contradiction that a developer that prides it's self of perfection seems to do such half arsed ports.
As far as i know they approve of it. Cant think why they'd make all their games so mod friendly if they werent. Its a sense of pride usually when a community take your game and continues modding it for years. Can guarantee no developer feels insulted by it.
The only reason a PC version hasnt been announced is to not cannibalise their sales. THe people who would buy it on PC are gonna buy it on consoles first now and then buy it 6 months down the line for PC as well. They do this pretty much every time.
I can wait six months. If I bought it on PS3 on release day, it'd probably take me about six months to get round to playing it properly anyway. I'm still only about 10% of the way through The Last of Us after getting that on release day.
And I dropped my telly when I moved house.
Pretty annoying I can't play this.
Hadn't played a GTA since Vice City (which I loved). Was really looking forward to GTA V, but I'm just finding IV really dull, can't really be bothered with it. I got the complete thing with the two expansions, shall I just play Gay Tony? Is that better?
just couldn't get into it at all
and the characters are way more likeable
but I personally think the Saints Row series and Sleeping Dogs offer the best all round sandbox experiences this generation with Just Cause 2 offering the best 'dick around' environment (but has awful missions)
and the fact that the character backgrounds just werent as interesting
the game itself was really good
it had all the technical components that make a great game. It just lacked soul. Also, the driving was shit.
and my first impressions were 'it's so dark' and that the cars felt like bricks and I got thrown through the windscreen when mounting a kerb.
I don't have a PS3 or 360 of gaming PC so will likely never play GTAV, but I'd be interested to see it.
franklin's seems quite SRS, while trevor just seems to be crazy and michael a line in between
and was an incredible game. Should have been GTA IV instead of Niko's grey 'go here and shoot everybody' borefest.
Spoken like a true, desensitised member of generation Y
I preordered it back in June. In preparation I have booked Weds, Thurs and Friday off next week and have fully cleared my schedule, except for a Tim Hecker gig on Wednesday night.
I have also dropped £850 on a new TV and stocked up on the nicest weed my dealer has. I've been having dreams over the past few weeks that in which I am playing the game, and it's really good.
I'm a little worried that when the game finishes installing and I'm all comfy on my bed ready to play it I'll have a heart attack or something as the excitement will be too much.
Maybe I'm taking this a little too far, and building myself up to inevitable disappointment, but for once my life is looking fairly issue-free and simple at the moment so this is the perfect time to get fully involved in something.
hope so anyway.
but this one still SURVIVES
Game is coming out very shortly. It's great publicity.
and the best way to pick up the people not bothered about looking at it? Pretend you don't want people to see it.
If they didn't leak it themselves, then they made sure there were people who had access to it who they knew would.
there's this really interesting theory that there was originally a plane hi-jacking mission which they cut out after the attacks
I need to fuel my excitement by spending several days reading about it in advance (I don't need to fuel my excitement, I'm already creaming my pants).
consensus seems to be reviews are generally released the friday before the game. so this friday.
dont usually get mags/sites breaking embargoes
the trailers introduced me to this song which is a fucking tune
Does it rival the Laura Branigan Vice City orgasm?
it's the Jay Rock song on Franklin's trailer
The game is call grand theft auto. Driving is the main component of the game. To say you find "drive to this mission, drive here, drive there" boring. Well that is GTA. You're gonna be disappointed if you dont want to drive anywhere. To me the driving is the best party of GTA. Get out on the open road. Find your way around the city. Take in the sights. Do some drive-bys. You're not constrained by a narrow corridor of how you approach something.
The missions are all focused around heists. So it seems like its not just gonna be "drive here and kill this guy for" but its still gonna be "steal this truck" then "sneak into this place and steal some uniforms" then "rob this shop" etc. building up to the big movie-style heists.
proper cracked up at that.
it's the same reason someone would complain they hated the racing in Big Rigs Racing because the racing sucked... despite the fact they're complaining about the fundamental gameplay element of the game they just bought.
Just cause you couldnt go 100 mph hitting off every wall and handbraking round corners people seem to dislike it. They made it actually require some skill and take time to become a good driver itg.
had a real heft to it, accidents felt great and you got in some real sticky situations. When you nailed something it felt great
just remember that I didn't like it despite loving the previous games.
if I want to drive hefty vehicles I'd play Euro Truck Sim 2
Maybe make the cars a bit more manouverable at high speed, but keep the learning curve that made you feel awesome later on in the game.
People just want too much instant gratification - you've always got Saint's Row for that. GTA's never been the dumbed-down alternative.
I want GTA to be fun not almost impossible to get anywhere without crashing into something.
Why not just have a button that automatically shoots every enemy within a mile radius in the head? Or one that just takes you to the ending cutscene so you don't have to bother playing the damn game for the couple of hours it takes to learn how to drive so you don't have to miss any of the Breaking Bad boxset you're watching on an iPad on your lap?
GTA's driving really wasn't *that* hard to get a handle on, and its realism is what made it rewarding to get good at. It feels a lot more of an achievement losing the cops when you know you can't just make 180 degree turns on a dime.
it was dull and mostly felt shit
I should be alright shouldn't I? I don't trust the post where I live to pre-order it and it arrive on Tuesday. There isn't going to be any all sold out situation is there? Someone reassure me please.
*except about the driving
Gay Tony was a great game though
driving for this one is closer to SA form what i read and the ability to switch between characters means you can probably skip a lot of the long drives.
when we're all pumped up. Is the no console ting a choice of yours? Just genuinely not interested in playing this one?
I am going to pick this game up when it comes out on either PC or next gen console because I wont buy another sex box or a playstation 3.
Go vine a hotdog
Don't think I really have an issue with that though.
Those graphics are not as good as people remember.
At the weekend, really hasn't aged well, some parts look like an n64 game
Some clips up from the 360 version
Looks like a brighter gta 4 pretty much
confirming that I'll get the atomic blimp because I preordered it, sounds fun. Bit concerned I won't get it til Wednesday because of the dispatch rules Rockstar are supposedly set on though
I'm kinda happy the pre-order bonus isn't great. Means that they are just including it all in the main package.
What was the conclusion about the game on the 360 - not worth it?
I'm gonna get it on 360 if I do
It just might not be 'quite' as good as other formats but - despite what sections of the internet will no doubt tell you - I can't imagine for a second that it will ruin the game in any real sense at all.
[this is of course speculative, and the correct answer would be to give it a few days after release to see what sensible and impartial people have to say about it]
I thought previous Rockstar games had performed better on Xbox - certainly RDR.
I've got a PS3, just curious.
driving looks ace (what you see of it)
just make sure you have the free space.
if it's flat then it's old but it should tell you (if I remember correctly) the storage capacity on top of the hardrive on the silver strip.
they're well cheap in cex.
los santos version of facebook
i'll stop posting soon i promise
Hope you can play golf too
Game will probably be great, LoL
you're my favourite poster, grant.
you fookin' sadacts.
Nice to hear from ya. Hope you're well.
haha nah screw you guys, I stand by my GTA IV was a bit average comments. R* haven't gotten to me yet!!!
What a load of anus
(somebody has probably already explained ^up there^)
but rockstar will probably send their goons* around and pop in cap in their ass if they do.
*limit their access to future rockstar material, interviews etc. I don't think it's a legal issue, just more of an etiquette one. Certainly in other areas of journalism it is anyroad it seems.
Aren't review embargos often when the devs don't want people to see bad reviews before they can buy the game?
unless they have an exclusivity deal with one of the big companies for the FIRST EVAH REVIEW or something.
Most things have an embargo, but it is weird to have one so tight to release. Dunno if that means anything about devs or owt - but yeah, it's not like it's going to get caned.
It'll be about IGN's extensive stuff over the last few weeks... they'll have paid a ridiculous sum to be the only go-to place for GTA info before release.
or 90%+ - the weight of expectation kinda inflates any review. See: The Dark Knight Rises
saying the hype around the (good) film inflated the review
there's actually a relatively small amount of info officially doing the rounds for a game the size of GTA 5, it's a game that's going to shift bucketloads anyway so isn't in any way dependant on good press so I think there's also an element that they can/would want to maintain as much release day excitement as possible rather than have magazines and websites detailing every little thing before people get to play it.
and a game like GTA V doesn't need the press
do you have it? Updates, please.
that is the day before release. Also admire how Rockstar are demanding retialers don't ship the game early, plus the worldwide release all on the same day.
It makes it seem more like an event, which it bloody is. Everyone's in this together. I'd be well pissed off if my mate got their copy two days before I got mine.
providing pre-order incentives then issuing a tight embargo is ALWAYS a dickish thing to do and just because it's Rockstar as opposed to EA doesn't make it any more admirable.
Of course it's not exactly consumer-friendly, but if you're so desperate to get something immediately without giving yourself the opportunity to make a grown up decision on if it's actually any good (i.e. waiting for reviews/chance to try it out) you've got to take a bit of responsibilty yourself.
but the amount of people that see that blimp and go 'OH MAN! I must order the game now for Blimp' are the people I'm concerned for. I made the sorry ass mistake of pre-ordering Rome Total War 2 :( so I'm still a little sore.
yadda yadda just give us a fucking review.
of someone just fucking around. Looks good...
i've got an in game tattoo of my in game dog!!!!!!!
driving is so much better than gta 4. all of the stuff with switching between the characters is pretty sweet. mainly just been fucking around. map is REALLY enormous, city is pretty insane too.
dodgy stephen has really done well in getting it to me early too. thanks dodgy stephen.
Now I'm even more excited.
Is the city as big as GTA4? It looks pretty small on the leaked map.
That is fine by me.
So should definitely be here by Tuesday
pre-ordered. my package (lol) was disptached on friday though, so might be here today?! or tomorrow, idk.
Realised that my old card was set up on Amazon. Been looking forward to flying that blimp all weekend.
I have no shame in this.
Quite a decent one at that. 10/10.... naturally.
Obviously the floodgates will open later today but this is a pretty nice start.
but meh, watevs
To be honest, to be the first on the scene with this one might be worth it.
looking forward to it.
Need to know whether I need to cancel all plans for this evening or not.
amazon emailed to say mine dispatched on friday, so possibly gonna be very, very late for work tomorrow morning,.
Hasn't turned up yet although our office post doesn't normally get here til 11ish. If it does turn up I'll be feigning illness and going home straight away
I'm not really expecting it today but a guy can dream
So it could be waiting when I get home.
How heavy are they on the cut scenes? Properly out of the Xbox game loop because I got bored of vaguely interactive films but I'm thinking about getting this tomorrow. Am I just gonna get bored of exposition about 12 minutes in?
Andfrom experience in max Payne 3 (which was a fucking mess when it came to overlong cuteness) then say the chances are quite high.... As long as they learnt their lesson and allow you to skip them then no buggy right.
I just wanted to shoot things. Probably won't bother then.
Are we talking Red Dead Redemption levels of yeah (acceptable) or LA Noire levels of yeah (unacceptable)?
is that there is so much to do that you can leave the cutscenes if you want ie you dont have to go for the story, just run around and kill people wanton
I'd just like the story to not interfere with the gameplay.
Probably just have to give it a go, innit.
i haven't really thought they've been too much or anything but i do quite like 'interactve film' type of games, though this is definitely not THAT bad.
fully expect this week at work to be horrendous and i need to let off steam. given i have amazon prime and it despatched saturday afternoon it should do right?
is that what you get for pre-ordering it? a balloon?
Also, no where near my office I can get a copy. I heard that preorders had sold out GTA anyway.
+ GTA V, pre-order Fifa 14 and get a free copy of The Last Of Us chucked in
£240 on Amazon, worth it? Or will prices be falling soon/this year?
2nd hand prices will probably dip a bit in the coming months, but I don't think you'll see anything like the firesale mentality you usually see when new machine come out.
I'd probably go with that deal if I were you.
especially as it sounds like they won't be games you've already bought/played previosuly, more than pays for itself in a couple of months
eurogamer gives it a 9
Is real but only if you install the play disc as well as the other one; the game works best if you just install the first bit (which is mandatory) then play the game from the disc
a load of tens, lets hope this one actually warrants dem 10's unlike GTA IV which subsequently got bashed after the hype cloud dropped off. But this game does look much better than GTA IV but I'm going to take it all with a pinch of salt and wait for the general community consensus before I get it, especially as I now have access to a Playstation :)
saying the script terrible and evil, something i've read in another review too but not as scathing.
its like that 'you're old now' episode of South Park how everything is being presented. storyline wise it sounds perfect to me.
to be honest (and this isn't me targeting the reviewer) half the point of GTA is that it's bad people doing bad things. This isn't making me have second thoughts at all but it does kinda leave a nugget in the back of your head going '...nah, can't be'.
Still, gonna be GOOOOOOOOOOOOOD
also, it seems from this review and the IGN one that there is almost a criticism of the fact that in GTA there is a mirror held up to the carnage that you've always been able to create in the series. to me thats exactly what i want. it should be uncomfortable doing some of the things that you do in these games, and if a game can leave you questioning itself, or indeed yourself, then its on the highest plateau of gaming.
it should be unsettling, you are correct.
their description of the Heist is enough for me to want this game RIGHT now.
bloody hell that sounds good.
essentially that it's looooooooong
Inevitable YouTube comments idiocy ensues:
Not arrived :'(
to play games now? not bought/rented anything since skyrim.......
the shootouts suddenly become tense, and more tactical. Definitely would recommend people try it for V.
Far better game for it- plus you get really good at free aiming quick enough anyway
is exactly the same as the first note in the save music on ICO
should be here any minute
Just need to figure out a way to escape work now
I think that will be better though, having it on my desk will be torture. The install period will also be torture.
Seems kinda appropriate.
DOES HE NOT KNOW WHAT DAY IT IS?!
and is there a high possibility it'll be sold out today?
Cheapest place was Amazon.
they stock the regular £40 version too
they have 50 copies in stock and it's only £3 more than tesco online.
Amazon is 35 quid.
Everyone else on MarketPlace is selling it for £49
I can wait for the sake of the saving frankly
and it's out of stock
But is this san andreas set in a different cosmos to the ps2 one as I recall las vegas being where the mountain is
Ive heard the heists are shit and after the first one the game pushes you towards stealth or firepower depending on the story
of mine in today's post.
HNGGGGGGGH hurry up today
please be ther.
This is a catastrophe.
I ordered from Amazon, no fancy delivery option - they'll just stick it through the door, right? RIGHT?
don't say that
Whenever I've ordered a game from Amazon they've always just stuck it through the letterbox. So unless yours is weirdly small then I'm sure that's what they'll do.
and guess what?
Date Time Status Track point

you not got a tracking code?
AHH STOP IT MY MIND.
Going to have a late one tonight. No work tomorrow. Are we going to form a DiS crew when the online bit is released? Probably should.
Who's on Xbox and who's on PS3?
And the package it came in should fit through a letterbox fine. I had it shipped to my office to be safe though as the last time I ordered a game from them it came in a ridiculously big pack and I had to go through the rigmarole of redelivery
delivery office going to be shut when I get back.
Wasnt a fan of how the sports cars handle.
It's the moment every gamer has been waiting for: GAT V is here! Dress up as star-crossed lovers Gat and Aisha and strap on a heavy machine gun and a combat knife launcher for the ultimate Saints Row experience.
Free DLC one day only
I know I secretly want GTA V more, but fair play :3
3GB down ... 5GB to go.
Might be enough to stop me buying the game:
I haven't played it but one will assume it's to get over how unhinged the character in question is. So if it's key to the plot and justified by the characters traits then what's the problem?
But at least there it's up to you to watch or not. Making you commit the act of torture yourself is different to me. Plus, knowing how heavy handed GTA stories are, I suspect it'll hardly be delicately handled.
Anyhow, you all run along and have fun now. I'm off to play a game you likely completed 5 years ago...
I'm not telling you what to be offended by, no one has the right to as you can't tell people what they can or can not be offended by as it's an involuntary emotional response, but the same people the criticize these scenes in video games deem it perfectly acceptable/don't bat an eye lid if it's in any other media.
Also it's the unhinged guy that's performing the acts, so making the player feel uncomfortable will probably be in tone with the story, to those people enjoying it... well you could argue they're getting the story from a first person view with the protagonist.... as long as they don't present the guy as a stable & normal every man then I don't really get why it should cause mass public outrage as it would narratively make sense and the arguably the fact you're controlling the actions as opposed to simply witnessing it could be even more impactful... much like how terrible I felt about *walking dead spoiler* chopping the dudes leg off in the forest.
Don't get me wrong I'm not arguing your choice to be offended by it, but I don't like the hypocrisy of the media.
Just about to start that game as we speak!
Headline should read:
Gang of youths capitalize on 100s of people walking home in quiet streets holding items worth 30+. This would have happened if there was an iphone midnight launch in a local area.
They probably were mugged to get hold of the game, but it's not exactly decrying it at the downfall of western civilisation.
but I am.
is really good.
i've only managed 2 (not counting prologue)
I decided to drive around for a bit when Windowlicker came on and then I just didn't stop.
Went for a drive into the sticks. Shot some deer and cows. Attracted the attention of the local fuzz, who eventually did me in when my car ended up wedged in a hole.
Went up the cable car, rode a dirt bike off a pylon and parachuted down to the beach. Found someone taking their dog for a walk and popped a cap in the little mongrel's head. Beat up some pedestrians.
Had to go out, so had to leave it there.
Might do a few missions when I get back from work tomorrow.
But the transition from one character to the other is fucking stunning.
I know they're not the priority with a game like this, but they're pretty rough.
I think it looks amazing for an open world game.
oh man. amazing.
the details on the cars and when everything is lit up at night. Actually cant comprehend people thinking it looks bad.
but it looks really rough up close from what I've seen.
I think it's pretty fucking AMAZING what they've done with the hardware.
Short of genius to be honest, no load times etc.
I did out run the load times once or twice in my mini cooper. Found myself driving over an incomplete bridge etc.
No moaning from me though.
I went up in the blimp last night and my jaw hit the floor
I can't work out how they have done this in such old hardware, witchcraft
I was quite drunk and found driving around a bit blurry.
Went up the mountain this morning and it was fucking crazy. Agree that it's old hardware and the scale of it is just incredible. Some of the textures aren't great but on the whole it looks amazing.
Havent even got out the city yet. I like to let the story take me there. Cant wait to get to Trevor. The missions so far have all been pretty decent and i find the cutscenes pretty watchable.
Absolutely love how theyve improved the wanted levels. It feels so satisfying when you find a little alley to hide in as the cops are searching all around for you. One of my biggest gripes with IV was the way the wanted levels worked.
Also switching betweem characters in genius. The characters so far feel quite different which varies the play nicely. I like to listen to classic rock as Michael. He seems like that kind of guy.
I have left the city, I couldn't help myself and did a full lap of the highway that runs around the island; it's really impressive from what I saw from the road.
and i've probably only explored a quarter or so of the city in my five or so hours playing it. Really hits home just how big this fucker is.
Enjoyed the missions so far. the LifeInvader one shocked me a bit though - as in, a little jump at the end i did. Also (POSS MINI SPOILERSZ?) is lester the third dude from the prelude heist? The way him and mike talked when they met seems to suggest but idk. or he planned it, or sutin. meh.
IT'S SO LOVELY THOUGH. Ain't doing another tow truck mission though. Boring alarm.
Fave moment so far is probably the shoot out when the ballas try and trap you as franklin. The effects are incredible when you are trying to escape.
because its pretty much get some clothes then drive to this place and do a minigame thing but the story and characters make it so muhc more fun than that. I think in previous games they hadnt nailed that aspect of integrating story into missions as well.
In 5 you just have to escape their field of view, usually by getting round a corner and hiding in an alleyway. The cops will patrol all round the area. Sometimes they happened upon my hiding spot and i would have to get away again but if you find a good place you can just lay low till they call off the search. Its so much better and doesnt feel frustrating anymore.
I've found GTA 4 wanted levels an improvement on GTA III and Vice City overall, but you're right that it's a bit odd that you couldn't hide within the search area.
Driving is VASTLY improved whatever those GTA4 loving people say, GTA is meant to be fun not realist.
Graphics are stunning considering the hardware. No load times, all the little details are mind blowing. The city lives and breaths.
Small things like that blew my mind:
- Bumped into someone as Michael on Franklin's road. They pulled out a gun and shot me. This didn't happen as Franklin.
- The amount of dialogue they most have recorded
- the reflections in the chrome and general lighting effects
Almost ever mission has had me in stitches. The script is great, sharp and funny. The first boat mission is hilarious.
Also the gun play, oh the gun play. Feels a little like ghost recon or something.
Also also...CHECKPOINTS, thank god.
but it isn't impossible, which is nice. Also enjoy that if you crash or block the road people in cars who pass you by give you the finger.
You select unarmed in your car and aim it like a gun. Class.
- Going into a strip club and hear Misteeq
- Doing a transfer from bowl bowl in a skate park on the beach...with a 911.
- Failing the home invasion bit with Franklin in the kitchen (do it if you can, sooooo funny)
the reaction from the tennis coach was amazing. Proper guilty lol.
How do you replay missions?
but can't check as I'm at work :(
i think it's just in the main menu of options when you hit start
went to see this random dude campaigning to legalise weed in a park. he offered me this spliff which i smoked and then entered this minigame where i had to shoot aliens with a minigun to stop them from abducting me
Apparently they turn your iPad into a giant map to use while you play...?
I'm annoyed it's not out for Android.
How does this keep getting better?!
Need an internet connection or is it from the disc? Still not worked out how to get the old girl online...
in case you didnt know.
Feel an impulse weekend supermarket purchase coming on...
I installed mine while not signed into xbox live.
saying that though the places ive been inside have actually looked pretty good. I think its really clever they had people inhabit the houses you stay at now. Makes it feel so much more real.
forces you to remember bits of the map and you actually learn how to get to places instead of just staring at the yellow line. Find it more enjoyable that way and you pick up on more things around the city.
you definitely get more of a feel for the city
got it last night and found out about the 8GB requirement :( didn't have time to grab one before a gig. Gonna get one today and play as much as I can before another gig.
It feels so much more alive and vibrant than the grey and brown of GTA IV. Been sticking to the story so far; loving the way it flows and the way it switches between Michael and Franklin in the first few missions/the way they've connected these two characters has been great. Have met with Lester and been wearing secret spy camera glasses, oooooooooohhh!
Things wot I have done:
-beaten Jonah Hill at a bike ride and done some jetskiing with the slaggy daughter
-smoked weed and shot aliens
-accidently killed Franklin on the boat mission by smashing my car into another car and chucking him across the freeway.
-played tennis twice (won one, lost one)
-accidently drowned michael whilst swimming
-watched an experimental french film about a possible hermaphrodite.
-Got busted by Jonah Hill when I walked into his room during the home invasion mission.
-Got started on outside the car dealership and duffed up some dudes.
-Got thrown out a strip club.
-Got wasted by stacking my bike into a pillar.
Actually doesn't sound like much, but mostly driving around staring and thinking "this looks awesome."
doing that next.
I now have a stripper on the side. Seems only fair now i know the wife is cheating.
smashed up the kids tv, then suggested a bike ride. Drove to the pier, did that, then saved the daughter from some pr0n dudes and had to jetski away from them as they had guns. Seemed a bit side quest-story mission.
down a freeway, just as the sax solo from Baker Street kicked in. It was a real moment.
I also accidentally drove up a mountain:
It's great so far.
Did the prologue, drove to the dealership, then went home, watched TV, smoked, drank a beer then went to bed.
before the reality hit me that I was sat on a sofa playing a video game of a guy sat on the sofa watching TV
Looked great though.
I still keep coming in here. I'm stopping now
I've been playing for 11 hours and still have probably 35-40% of the map under fog. So much left to explore- and I've only played golf and tennis once, no other mini-games, haven't got Trevor yet, only done one stranger mission... have barely scraped the surface.
It is stunning. The only problem I have with it is the amount of pop-ups you get but I can totally forgive that considering how old the hardware is. It's funny, exciting, cinematic, horrifying and slick in equal measures.
The rest of it...wow. It's easy to just pan the camera around and soak in the visuals. Genuinely astounded by it.
and the sukkas sent me one anyway and didn't charge me!
I should pretty much just get a PS3 and this and stop looking for work, right?
Every time I've done something to incur their wrath while on foot, there has been a volley of bullets lodged in my face before I've been able to get a car started
Great introduction to an absolute psycho right there.
Great character so far. The first shoot out with him is mega fun. He's the perfect character for the game if you ask me.
that it almost feels like another game. Makes the game feel even bigger.
and as mentioned in a review seems to embody the mayhem that gamers often seek and do in GTA, but having it in an actual character makes it a lot more powerful.
The sheer scale of it is awesome. I love getting into a heated stand off with the police when the Tangerine Dream score kicks in, mainly because it makes me feel like in James Caan in Thief. :D
Not sure about the driving yet. I got really really frustrated during that street racing mission when the slightest tap on the analog stick seemed to send my car into a spin. Was close to chucking the controller across the room. I'll give it a bit of time to settle down, see if I pick it up.
Did a few missions, then after aformentioned racing incident, I decided to relieve some stress and take a motorbike into the country. That was fun, then I stacked it into the central reservation, flew off and into a lorries windshield coming the other way. Woke up in a small town hospital, and caught the train most of the way back to the big city, taking potshots at cars just to see their reaction. Until I saw some goats, when I jumped off the train and unsuccessfully tried to hunt them. I enjoyed that.
kept clipping a lamppost on the last turn and got taken over. happened about eight times before i learned to just, er, slow down a bit.
I eventually won it by just driving slowly, then sticking that on for the final stretch.
kept slamming into immovable objects and taking 5 minutes to get going again. or getting spun out by an opposing driver who seemed to stay in control every time while i took an age trying to right myself
She seemed thankful. Michael is practically boris johnson.
Also did my first heist, it was well fun.
which way did you choose? I chose to gas them. Used a shit hacker though :(
lost one guy who couldn't drive his motorcross bike for shit. Great fun the heist, liked the switching between Franklin burning it through the sewers to Michael in the massive van smashing cop cars to bits.
a 3rd of my blood loot. I got a wicked hacker on board so I had more time to rob the place
Lesson learnt: don't scrimp on your crew.
but i slowed down over where he crashed and good old Franklin managed to snatch the loot he dropped.
Because I've not used it for so long, it asked me to confirm my password and email address. Don't think I've ever been asked this before. I set this account up with an old hotmail account which I haven't used for probably 5 or 6 years. As a result, I have absolutely no idea of the password.
Go online to reset it. It wanted to send a reset link to the hotmail address, which obviously I have no password for. Instead I had to fill in a form where I put my name, date of birth, passwords I may have used in the past and people I've emailed, etc. Filled in what I could.
They've decided I'm not me and have blocked the account. Fuxxake.
I had to give them a phone number and a second email etc. So so so annoying.
cos it's gonna ruin everything for me when I eventually get it :/
Didn't take away from the experience. It's that jam packed full of awesome.
the mount chiliad one is INTRIGUING.
in the proem. not seen em on the mountain tho apart from those symbols and shit
Bit Saints Row isn't though?
but thats totally fine as long as the whole game isnt wackiness.
They did a whole zombie DLC for Red Dead so you never know what they will have in store for this one.
even when Saints Row 3 did it I was like 'really' even if it did introduce Burt Reynolds as mayor it was the worst part of that game. Zombies are hella lame now
side game last night. It was fun, if genuinely a little creepy.
-flying a small aircraft
-being bitten to death by a dog
-off road racing on a dirtbike
-seeing hikers stood on the top of Mount Chilliad taking pictures of the view.
I walked past a man with a dog, the man punched me so I shot him. Then the dog bit me once and I died.
-dressed Trevor up as a gay trucker (pink pussy top, tight shorts, trucker cap and stupid sunglasses. Also got a big hobo beard.
-got the police after me for honking my horn. Seriously. They shot me to death.
-shot a cougar in the face, punched some dudes at a construction site.
-stole a briefcase of money from a scene that looked very No Country for Old Men. Got fucked up by some dudes 3 minutes afterwards.
-got a tattoo of a scorpion ON FIRE
probably the most frustrating gaming experience of my life. helicopters aren't much better.
Funny making the two teams obviously hibs/hearts
Lot of Scottish in-jokes.
You were joking.
It's so good; I never want to stop.
trying to do side missions or explore the map. Need to at least make it last til Online comes out.
As I reckon they are gaining free stats on players before the online comes out
You can watch it in the cinema from 10am - 2pm. That such an amazing little animation hidden away in this awesome game just boggles me
was fucking annoying.
- managed to get my car stuck on the horse racing track
- Drove off a ramp on the top of a multi story car park in slow motion using Franklin's special power and watched in slow motion as it landed on it's roof and exploded
- Killed a lady with one punch then poured petrol over and lit it (pretty gross, won't be doing it again)
- Tried to jump out of the way of a train at the last minute, failed, got killed
- got run over by a tram
- drove at full pelt down the pier, hit the railings at the end, smashed out the windscreen and flew headfirst into a lapmpost, died.
- failed to fly a jumbo jet
- succeeded in flying a lear jet but jumped out without a parachute, died
lots of dying essentially
Great fun. Now for sidequests and exploring :)
This amused me - 13 sinister selfies.

can someone put it on youtube for me.
what a wank
First thing I did was go as high as I could over the city then jump out with no parachute. Started to feel really bad as Michael plummeted to his death.
-robbed a money van out of 7Gs. Drove to the beach to hide from the cops.
-got taken out on my jetski by Trevor whilst playing as Franklin during a mission - THANKS TREVOR, YOU DICK.
-accidentally ran over Lamarr whilst trying to get him into a car on a mission.
-went wrench/pliers/wrench/car battery - did not enjoy this at all.
-did a rampage and killed a load of rednecks as Trevor.
-Restarted the first plane mission SEVEN times because flying the planes is horrid.
-More successful with the helicopters mind.
-Failed to save a guy twice on the construction site when a load of tubing dropped on his lorry and he got trapped and then it set on fire.
-Keep dressing Michael in a hawaiian shirt and shades regardless of the time of day/weather.
-Went deer hunting with Cleatus.
they're fine. go to flying school you clots.
I was always crap at the flying - GTA IV; couldn't fly the helicopters for shit, would end up ditching them into a building/sea/other helicopters. Although, the helicopters on V are actually better I think.
mainly as i wasn't slowing down enough on landing, the flying missions in general are my least favourite/enjoyable though
tanning about in the wee dune-buggy as trevor on the gun missions is insanely fun
The helos are seriously unstable though.
always had trouble with the helicopters. I can just about get used to it in flight but trying to land the thing without exploding is nearly impossible for me.
He was passed out drunk, on an island, with 3 dead bodies around him, in his underpants.
That guy <3
wearing a dress.
just chilling out on the sofa while the game swi.... OH FFS TREVOR.
Love that he just goes further off the rails as the story progresses
Trevor has the most kills, obv. (200, 18 of which were police.)
Franklin - 98
Michael is the lowest with 67.
you tear down and assuring him I was currently working on something to get his money back......while I was waiting to go on the rollercoaster at the pier
as far as I could tell there was no reward for getting them all
yikes. i also had a private dance from 2 strippers before taking one of them back to hers. mmmm, pixelated boobs
or is their an online story mode completely separate from the singleplayer story?
i've read a few things which seem to say that the multiplayer has a different story, or at least other missions you'd never be able to do playing on yr own
the "crew" stuff sounds pretty cool eh?
Get bored after a while, decide to skydive from high altitude - Assuming that you automatically get a parachute when you enter an aircraft like on the old game.
Realise you have no parachute.
No idea where I was, nearish the airport. But was able to nick it with no wanted level. I then flew over the airport to get the police helicopter up, and had a metal on metal mid air duel.
Don't think that's a spoiler.
Like proper unplayable scratched! heavy
Thanks for the all the sympathy
Rockstar still dont have a fucking clue how to write female characters huh, fun but more of the same with heists (which are excellent) but mediocre combat and extremely scripted and restrictive mission structure. Still prett darny good though
Straight after ended up on beach, saw animal coming towards me I thought was another cougar, shot it dead, got close, turns out it was a Labrador, switched off playstation.
That involved Franklin in conversation with a dog :D
What's that boy? Happiness is a human construct?
It's this sort of silliness that GTA does so well.
best site is the one whice lets you generate film pitches:
when a paranoid yuppie finds out his grndfather was an australian war criminal, he teams up with a flirty acid casualty to take on a 400 pound hipster to save the world from white people.
not wasting my life.
but it is slightly strange how this game has caught the media coverage/massive sales it has. I mean, it is an amazing game, just so huge, but it doesn't come with the excitement of other games for me, like Skyrim or Read Dead, merely because it is just so familiar and expectedly amazing like other GTAs. Idk, the excitement that came with skyrim hasn't been replicated here, probably because I'm so familiar with the franchise/have such high expectations.
as explained earlier the mission structures are very rigid and oppressive for an open world game, in fact one could argue that GTA IV pushed more boundaries then this one, though this one appears to be far more refined.
That you can be presented with such a vast, detailed, seamless game world and just think, yawn, here we go again :)
I do get what you mean, though. It's less of an unknown than the first few hours wandering RDR's world. I never thought Skyrim was giving me anything above and beyond what I was expecting, but I find the series to be a complete personality vaccuum anyway.
I've had the game for a couple of nights and my first impressions are that it's incredibly well presented (top soundtrack as always, better looking on current gen than I ever expected), found the dialogue a bit try-hard at first (GTA! Swearing! Racial stereotyping! SHOCK!) but I'm warming to the characters a lot. When Lamar sings 'Niggaaaa!' after the first mission :D
I think I still agree with him, this game is outstanding though for the most part but I do find it lacking in some areas.
I just hit a wall because the characters and plot are so uninteresting, and the combat lacks nuance - I feel like I'm just levelling up to make health bars go down quicker. The only real pull is to see what visual marvel's over the next hill.
I've felt the same since Morrowind, I can't fathom plugging hundreds of hours into it.
Skyrim and Red Dead Redemption might (or might not - haven't played them, so wouldn't know) be better games, but neither have had the impact on the wider world over the years that multiple iterations of GTA have - be it the Hot Coffee nonsense or the general sense of "my little Joey turned into a monster because of this game" from previous generations.
It's similar to the Hollywood effect where most people don't see the media as a potential artform and end up raised on a couple of blockbusters (CoD) and a bit of some comforting fluff (FIFA) each year.
side game with Trevor. Was seriously odd.
think i've done 4 main missions so far. so many little things to get lost in
and he gave me 100k shares in a company :D
Sold them immediately as it seems impossible to make any kind of money. I went to buy some property after selling shares, decided on the taxi company - cost $200,000 to buy for a $2,000 a week income, which is pathetic. How is it possible to rack up 150mill to buy the golf course?
Having said that I am only half way through the game.
How else do you get stock market tips?
It would be nice if you could make money selling stolen cars. I'm sure you could do this in a previous GTA. I've resorted to robbing armoured vans and holding up 24/7s.
Just look for trends. Pumped $30m into HAL last week at $1 a share and they're about $11 now so might get out soon.
LCN is affected by in game stuff (most heavily by some missions) but if you track down HQs/depots and destroy property/employees you can influence the market.
I'll give this a go later, at a bit of a loose end at the moment due to characters "laying low".
I messed up and did 2 assassinations before the heists and didn't invest in any stock at all. I made ~$300 million altogether on the last 3.
Bought live invader shares just after the mission where you blow up the CEO, as they had dropped massively. Assumed I was getting them at rock bottom prices. And now theyre worth a fraction of what I bought them for.
a shit behind a skip.
I took the best selfie. Caused a bit of a pile up on the road playing fetch with Chop. Decided to take a picture of me and my dog with the good work weve done. As I'm taking it, a cop car comes in chasing someone else, they hit my road block, cop car fires into the air and explodes. I take picture.
Genuinely gutted, it would have won awards.
-Drove to the top of mount Chilliad in an SUV then attempted to drive down the other side as fast as possible. Got a short way before careering off the side. though i would jump out and see if i could parachute down. jumped out too early and died.
- Tried to drive a scrambler bike off the ramp at the top of the mountain, missed it, managed to get part of the way down before being thrown off and hitting a tree. Died.
- Placed a sticky bomb on the front of my car and tried ramming people to make it go off. Ended up getting chased by police to a petrol station where i abandoned it in the middle of the forecourt and detonated the bomb just as they started firing. Big boom, cars flying everywhere.
-Found Trevor eating out of the bins
-Found a dude tied to a tree naked after his stag do on the day of his wedding. Had to drive him home and then to his wedding. Was left his rolls-royce as a present but ditched it as it was slow
and some other stuff
Without a vehicle in the middle of nowhere (another story), early evening. Nothing driving by at all. Stomping down the middle of the road getting more and more annoyed. Tractor eventually comes up the hill, thought I'd rather walk than drive that. Farmer started shooting at me, decided I'd take it. Shot him through the windscreen, he slumped on the wheel, accelerated and went over the cliff. Continued trudging down the mountain. Eaten by cougar.
I was driving down towards the hunting area when I came across a bloodbath. One guy was still alive, but on the floor. Popped a cap in him, then took $25k that was just lying around. Checked to make sure no one was around/alive, got back in my car, and drove down to the hunting. Got out of my car at the hunting, then was instantly gunned down by a bunch of heavies that seemed to appear out of nowhere, and they took back the $25k. Dammit.
still havent come across it yet.
Had no idea that was a thing. Was annoyed as the $25k meant Trevor had enough for the runway. Was just on my way there after a spot of hunting.
think im about 60% now. I have 10 missions or so left off the main story. Still loving it. Definitely gonna go back and replay all the heists the other way and any mission where you can switch characters and do it a different way.
Think people actually underestimate how well having 3 protagonists works. Hasnt been done before has it and think it marks what will be a great evolution for games where in the future people might make more games where you can play from multiple perspectives.
this is a bit of stretch matey
of games where you can change perspectives throughout a story? Theres probably some but cant think of any.
where the are allegiances involved, RTS games such as Red Alert 2?
Heavy Rain? Pretty much any game where you switch characters during a story. I mean it's not that different to that sort of structure only that the character select screen is in game, you still can only do mission x with character y.
most missions done including freaks, main chunk left is pastimes and stuff
dunno, sort of wish they'd made one of them female instead of having 3 predictable male archetypes
have you seen the female characters they've come up with for this game? They're either stupid, prostitutes or trailer park trash
as soon as a woman comes on screen it's all 'y'all know trisha be banging donell ya'knooow what I mean?'. 'HEY good looking wanna have a good time' and all that shit they've been pedaling for since 2001. The games have grown in a lot of ways but the way they handle female characters in the GTA franchise is pretty weak.
Surely even the most blindly devoted of GTA fans can see that? If not then... I dunno, wow?
theres an element of truth to what you're saying, but the difference isn't as extreme as you're making it sound.
and so used to all male characters in games etc (she's on 72% btw). She's said that the misogyny in the game goes a lot deeper than not having any female main characters or all other women represented being subservient to say the least. Apparently there's stuff on the tv channels that's just flat out sexist.
I don't know, I'm not tuned into it or whether they're parodying stuff but if it makes an intelligent woman feel offended or uncomfortable it's out of order.
On the gaming side, she's 31 out of 50 on the stunt jumps and reckons they're well hard.
At the end of the Jet Ski mission I went back and stole the yacht I spotted in the harbour and sailed until I stumbled across the airpot. Legged it to the lear jet. Brilliant to look at everything. Tried to land on a highway. Died, obvs.
I find i hard enough to remember what the hell I'm supposed to be doing during missions let alone thinking about property and stock market stuff. Is the stock market stuff all done via the internet on each characters phone?
you get where to put your money. Just make sure to sell the stocks about 5-10 mins after the mission.
but I did discover what was making the text so hard to read for me. I didn't have my PS3 set to be able to display 720p so it reverted to the next one down, 576i, which mean I couldn't read anything. Changed the display settings and now much better
SPOILERS I SUSPECT:
Pretty interesting though. Essentially saying there is a huge plot running through the game that ties it back to some wackier characters people may remember from San Andreas.
Just got it all going now so would be pretty neat if we got something sorted!
Because if not, thats not a DiS crew.
Not sure the easiest way to do it though? There's a subthread up there somewhere where people ^This'd their format so I guess PM eachother our gamertags/ps3 equivalents of gamertags
but I'm sure if anyone wants to do a bit of the donkey work in setting up a DiS crew they'd be somehow rewarded for their efforts?
Seems like 360 and PS3 can join it so that's cool. If anyone can think of any good DiS related rank names instead of like Thug or Kingpin and a decent motto then feel free to suggest and I'll change them!
do i have to pay extra for GTA online?
Liking more obscure music than you since 1999
In Rainbows > OK Computer > Kid A > The Bends > HTTT > Amnesiac > King of Limbs > Pablo Honey
Now what? Is it just a way to track other players easily?
Easy to do missions and heists with people I think
No idea how it works and far too ill to play tonight which sucks. But I will be playing soon.
Hope that's ok.
None of my friends have a PS3. (I don't have many friends)
It will never work
they're all obnoxious. i like the music and the driving around though
So I've been watching a stream of some other guy playing it for two hours now. Almost as fun as playing.
I read that heists weren't going to be available for quite a while. Shame 'cause they're easily the best part of the game for me.
similar to the single player story missions, for varying numbers of people
GOOD STUFF. Oh well.
Got all the set up with Lamarr then it stalls trying to load a race :(
They need to get these extra servers going soon
then nice blurry screen and "waiting for other players."
Might go back to single player - at least on that I can do stuff, like being Trevor and having fun times.
Companies buy servers for the amount of players they expect a couple of weeks from now. There is no point in them spending the amount of money needed for first day traffic, when they will lose a huge chunk of that traffic after a couple of days. Saves them a ton of money to just buy the servers they need to handle traffic from week 2 onwards.
So fucking shite.
I reckon they must have scrapped the original character creation they had not that long ago and they gave themselves not that long to develop a new system, thought it was a joke when I first saw it.
also from the sounds of things GTA online is basically a hub (the city) and loads of races/deathmatches... so basically it's an interactive lobby that barely works?
but basing the creation on grandparents viewed at a distance through bad glasses is a bit fiddly
Watching streams was enough to teach me that amount of sleep in lifestyle carries through to in-game so I'll just keep that at a minimum and level the rest of the stuff up in time
Don't think it really works in practice.
People are actually protesting outside it
Driving mrs. Madrazo back home with Trevor as Chicago's 'if you leave me now'. Had me ,earthing quite hard for some reason
Back to Guild Wars 2 for me.
or is it sold out everywhere other than online? Got the day off tomorrow and it's late night shopping tonight, seems like the perfect match.
played for about an hour then it crashed when loading the next playlist. Up to that point it was running smoothly though. Could see all the people driving about the map and stuff. Played a deathmatch which was surprisingly fun. Cant wait to play with friends. Think it wil be amazing just robbing convenience stores and shit as a team and then building up to doing bigger missions.
Played online for a couple of hours last night with little problem. Noticed a bit of lag with the cop cars, but I seemed to be chucked in with a bunch of Americans so probably just a distance thing. Good to know that it was just a case of overloaded servers, rather than fundamental problems with the netcode. Seems like it could be good fun.
pretty much decided I'm trading it in tomorrow while it's still worth something (£36 cash in CEX). Can always rebuy for £20 in the new year to play online.
The online thing will work in about 2 weeks, or whenever Obama sends them several hundred thousand US government employees back to work / every dork on the planet stops trying to access it at once.
Have some patience dudes. I mean, did you really buy it for online anyway? Have you done everything there is to do in the game?
The mind boggles.
I've found that I'm playing FIFA more plus I'd get decent money back. I've only done 20% of the game so you're right really that I should keep it. Decisions, decisions.
The content release schedule likely runs into months following the resolution of the errors. I can do other stuff with my time in the meanwhile.
I've got me several months of massive enjoyment doing what I'm loving in Single Player mode before I get bored. I reckon it's the best 40 quid I've ever spent on an entertainment.
If online happens then it's a bonus.
I'm not going to sell, but if I did, I (and anyone else who preordered) would be making money. Madness.
I you could integrate spotify playlists with the radio stations in the game. Just wanna cruise around with the Drive soundtrack on, maaaaan
and an opportunity to buy GTA V tomorrow. Shall I?
It's so oh my oh my oh my fcking god. yes. yes yes
I bought it. Hurry up 5.15pm.
and checking the stock prices on http://gtavstocks.com/
This game may have taken over my life
it's basically a tamigotchi but not as cute
Here we go...
I hate that all the good games come out when we're way too busy at work to actually play them
but it indicates i've only completed about 63%, which hopefully means the remaining 37% will be just as great
I am a long way from finishing. I don't want it to end.
think i'm just gonna get tore into the online stuff instead
You just need to do all the missions, side missions, hobbies & pastimes and collecting a load of stuff.
immediate 3* wanted level I think, didn't find anything of interest before dying
On a similar note I spawned out of an online race into the middle of the military base. Immediate tank death. Thanks Obama.
found many little things that are great/funny that i haven't seen anyone mention.
try punching/kicking the glass bit of a bus stand when someone is sat there. very funny.
I had a guy trying to run me over in online. As he was reversing for another go, I managed to get in his passenger seat, and just sat there changing the radio station (no idea if that affected them or not). Eventually they got out and I nicked the car. Good times.
Actually got into a race with a random and Lamarr. Chose the massive bulky car didn't I for some reason. Anyway, the random was pretty much beating me right to the end, then somehow my speed must have kicked in, because I met him at the last corner, gave him a clip, he smashed into the back of another car and I sailed past for the 1st place. Also found out he'd bet £3,000 that he'd win the race as well. :'D
it annoys me.
you can stack every corner and still win with it on, makes for an exciting race though I suppose, and it's fair enough in gta races.
just thought my awesome cornering meant I'd caught him up. Felt a bit bad - it was right on the last corner, probably 4 seconds from the finish line.
When do you start getting to control the different characters?
only just unlocked the third character
haven't got the third yet. too busy exploring.
I had hit 20+% by the time he popped up (mixing up story & side missions), he doesn't get involved until after the first heist and then it locks the other 2 out for a little bit while you have some Trev time.
but found him a pain in the arse nearer the end, i found that in a lot of the missions he was doing what i considered the most annoying parts i.e. flying planes/helicopters or sniping from a far
i've got much more time for franklin/michael
Really really good after all. Still some problems with me joining other peoples games (not when they join mine) but death matches are proper fun, racing is diverse and robbing stores is awesome.
Have to say it is difficult to accumulate any money though. Every time I get near 20k I lose it all dying on stuff.
only i did it just after i'd found Trevor on the edge of a bridge, high, in his underpants. cue several very surreal scenes where i'm doing rather unpleasant things to a man whilst stood in my undercrackers. A little bit homoerotic.
I have a spare blimp code
thought it was pre-order only, which was nice.
did it for about 20 minutes.
It felt a bit Breaking Bad.
WHAT I'VE ENJOYED SO FAR:
- The aliens. OMG I almost died laughing when it happened.
- Driving up to the Vinewood sign and looking at the view.
- Winning my first race.
- Inadvertently driving into the airport and automatically getting a massive wanted level and driving round in circles trying to lose the cops.
- Killing deer.
- Non Stop Pop playing Pure Shores followed by OOOH BABY I FEEL RIGHT THE MUSIC SOUNDS BETTER WITH YOU. Also enjoyed Baker Street coming on when I was desperately trying to escape something.
- Riding a racing bike.
Need to do more exploring really.
I got up at about 8.30 today and just turned it off about 30 minutes ago to do some chores but I'm going to have to sack the chores off. I can't not play it :/
My car got shot to shit and I tried to escape on a baggage carrier thing, was actually crying with laughter, it goes about 2mph.
It was dark when I went so I couldn't see ANYTHING, though I did see a plane take off. I couldn't catch it, obvs.
but stuff like crashing a helicopter into a blimp is still incredibly satisfying.
Was getting shot up, but somehow found my way to a plane. No time to get to runway, so just set off (towards the terminal) and pulled up. Just scraped over, and escaped. Tense. Then tried to land it on a mountain, and that didnt go so well.
Rick Ross takes precedence though.
but I'm telling myself this "cold" I have means I have to stay in instead.
I still chuckle when I think of Lester's action figurine collection – e.g. The Brown Streak.
and you've completely fucked yourself and your car and it barely drives because you've lost the tyres or some shit, and you somehow, miraculously manage to lose them. Amazing feeling.
I swear I was running from the police for around 15 minutes, completely flat tyres and that, and somehow found my way into whatever the Hamptons type place in the hills is called and managed to ditch them. My nerves were totally shredded by the end of that, couldn't believe it.
the cops are right up your arse and sprinting into nearby gardens and finding an excellent hiding place
just by jumping into a bush. I was certain I'd get caught but laughed myself silly when they couldn't find me.
found i had updated my mobile number since the last time i'd bought gold, microsoft's solution?
to ban my account for a fucking month!
- ended up in a secluded mountain range. admired the view before choosing to snipe cars from the top of a mountain. got chased by the cops into the sea and somehow managed to evade them
- used the cargo helicopter to hook unwitting drivers before flying high into the air and dropping them onto other cars.
- sniped train drivers from the top of a gantry
- tortured someone in my underpants (see above)
- fought some clowns with a shotgun
- broke into jail before being shot to pieces in about 3 seconds
Kept that going as long as possible because it was so much fun.
Also spent a few minutes taking the blimp up as high as it goes and then jumped out. Only when Franklin started screaming did I realise I didn't have a parachute. It takes a surprisingly long time to fall to your death from that height.
And Amoeba by the Adolescents started playing, like I was in THPS or something :')
I like choosing a ridiculously fast car with next to no handling that disintegrates on impact and seeing how long I can go without crashing. So tense.
I think my fastest lap is something like just under 3 minutes but the world records are like 1 minute. How is that even possible? Same goes for nearly all the high scores really.
If you can. Epic
weirdly satisfying leaping off it though
ride a bike off it, land safely in the bottom cabin, ride the car back up :)
was in tears for so much of it. Just robbing convenience stores and trying to evade the cops is amazing by itself.
Some guy tried to crash a helicopter down on top of me as i was racing down the highway.
My buddy was driving and he got kicked out the game so i was in the passenger seat as suddenly the car goes careering off the road into a wall. His foot is stuck on the pedal. I get out and try to evade the cops and get a phonecall. Its my friend phoning me(in the game using headsets). I found this hilarious, not knowing you could do that but you can phone anyone on your friends lists(whos playing it) or anyone in your lobby and their phone will ring. Dont know why it amuses me so much.
Highlights included meeting a helicopter friend. Some guy set a helicopter down next to me. I fully expected him to just pump me full of bullets, but instead they let me get in, and took me to another helicopter. We flew around for a bit, let them crash and parachuted out, then went and got some light aircraft and did tricks round the city. And then let them crash. Kind of like journey but with more explosions.
Was doing a mission with three randoms, and I completely cocked up the driving, so we failed. One of them had a headset, and said I'll show you how to drive, and started a race. I absolutely blitzed it. Enjoyed that.
Still havent got over how much fun it is to get into other players cars and change the radio to Non Stop Pop.
Met someone from the DiS crew, who had a garage. Went to ring their doorbell to ask them to come out and play, but they didnt. Feeling pretty low about DiS crew today.
Yeah, online is good.
Are you able to join them in a game or do you need to add them to your console list of friends first?
And if any are online, itll put you in there.
Chose option C.
Enjoyed the big heist - did it the armoured cars way. I'm trying to fly the planes as little as possible because I'm awful at it and just driving away seemed better for my sanity.
Sticky bombing cars is my new favourite thing. Got the assassination missions with Franklin to do now. Going to invest big on the stock market, do them and then fill a swimmming pool full of money. (Although Bawsaq seems to be permanently down on my game, is it broken for anyone else?)
I had franklin doing the assassinations when he didnt have much money to gamble
they said to save them to the end of the game and then invest big and you can be rolling in the dollar bills. Already got 20 million on all three characters already, but a BILLION DOLLARS would be better. :D
it was very depressing. Was Option C much fun?
Managed to get into the military base tonight but couldnt find any helicopters. Anyone know where you can find choppers?
You can get in without a wanted level online, but only on foot. Theres a gap in the fence on the eastern side, the choppers are just in front of the terminal building.
i'm assuming you can sign up for crew's even if you're playing on xbox and they're on ps3?
have only played online on my own so far and whilst it's been fun i'm struggling at times to get people to do jobs with and thus am only at about rank 7 so can't buy any fucking decent guns!
(the one you can eventually buy a spot at in SP)
usually has one chopper taking off on a tour as you drive in, and another parked
but offline you can steal air ambulances from the roof of one of the hospitals, i think its near the strip club
and the other night when I loaded his game he was passed out, drunk, at the top of a mountain with loads of hikers looking at him. So of course, I got up, found a kid's BMX and cycled all the way down to the bottom, drunk. It was amazing.
he was riding on a scooter down the freeway following another guy on a scooter and shouting things like "SCOOTER BROTHERS" and "LET'S GO ON AN ADVENTURE WITH SCOOTERS". Carried on following him for about 10/15 minutes and he continued to shout stuff :D
GTA is the best. I never ever want to do anything but play it ever again.
I'm so much like Trevor.
some good ones have been:
-drunkenly waking up next to some cows in a shed
-drunk on top of a mountain wearing a dress
-vomitting into a fountain
-chasing after some homeless guy asking for a BJ
-snatching a guitar off some guy in the street and hitting him with it
It's a shame the guy doesn't reply to you. Trever on a scooter is also inherently quite funny.
I keep getting an error message: "failed to host a GTA online session" Strangely, other people on my friends list haven't had any problems.
Absolutely fantastic stuff.
and someone in a yellow car out to annoy them, it's great.
but Rockstar have said they'll give $500k of in game cash to players who go online during October. It's kind of like an apology for the servers messing up when it first went online.
Is it likely to go down in price approaching Christmas? Or will it just sell out everywhere? I'm probably best off buying it now, right? What are CEX flogging it for? I usually only buy preowned games in there.
Wouldn't ever pay that for a pre owned game usually, but that was the only place i could buy it at 7pm on a Friday. It's bloody ace though.
I always stack it into a building whenever I try and cause havoc with it though. Anyone found an attack chopper online yet? Know where one is offline, but its just a standard Maverick online.
Just done the, error, torture thing. Not nice.
I just had a mission where I had to tattoo a crude penis onto Laslow's back. It was amazing.
I wish there were more comedy clothing options. I find dressing Trevor as a hipster in ill fitting suit and baseball cap makes him more comical and less scary at times. He has all the best dialogue though.
drove to Michael's house and he was stood outside. I said I didn't want to hang out, and when I followed him for a bit, he turned round and punched me
I've come across eimaj a couple of times, but never anyone else.
I realise Im a bastard, but I cant help but troll people with headsets. It's so much more fun hearing their fury rather than just imagining it. And I'm a bit shit, so its mostly them just laughing at how much they're killing me.
I'll join up tonight (I play nicely, unless there's a bounty on your head)
what level is everyone? think Im 17/18
I'm on Xbox though so can't join you. Also, repping another crew and don't want to MMO cheat on them.
Never have any money. Currently got about $30k in the bank, which is the most I've ever had. I always fritter it away by getting drawn into petty rivalries and dying loads.
but bought a small garage, done a few small mods to a car and a bike
Got a two car garage, a bike and car all kitted out to the best my rank would allow.
I WANT MORE GUNS.
Life is over
doesn't even make it in my top 50 games of the year
Can I have your copy then?
please list 50 games released this year that are better than gta 5
The mountain lions kept having me while I was taking photos of stuff I'd shot. It It was winding me up sooo badly
turns out running around picking on other random folk is the best fun ever
I drank all their whiskey, and sat on the sofa watching TV while they went out. I like how you can watch what all the other players on the server are upto while watching TV.
I need to save up for an appartment.
then shoot them in the head the minute they're outside
but I saw a video on youtube today of some dude 'solving a mystery' about a serial killer in the game who lives in a house, is obsessed with the number 8, and leaves clues written Zodiac-style on rocks in the mountains. Apparently it has nothing to do with the plot of the game itself.
I've got a lot of time for something like that. If only I had a TV, a playstation, and the game. These things don't come cheap in Poland.
Bloody hard, but I enjoy saying "wave after wave of men" in a Zapp Brannigan voice.
Hows everyone spending it?
I bought my dream luxury apartment, might go get some new clothes, have a fancy haircut, then save the rest for a rainy day.
It'll be a bit less special now everyone can afford it.
probably save the rest for when Im level 80 and can afford to soup up my cars
It's a lot of mights
is it worth getting an Xbox Live sub and going online?
Do you think you have what it takes to be in the DiS crew?
and some games including this. I never played GTA IV properly so this is my first time doing any missions since San Andreas. Quite fun, just done the first heist. Regret choosing the 'Loud' option as the 'Smart' one sounds like it's more fun.
I've been gifted over $1.5 billion cash AND I DON'T FECKIN WANT IT.
SO MUCH FUNNNNNN
yesterday I left it at the bit where Trevor goes to see Michael for the first time.
where you stop and its night and you see all the lights in the background <3
any ideas why the graphics are so pixellated and crumby.
It looks like a game from 1997.
Do HDMI cables make that much of a difference. It's a good tv but it together it all looks shite.
The amount of pixels displayed on screen is vastly increased with the use of an HDMI cable as opposed to a component cable therefore more detail and less blockyness.
I'm playing it on a 14" 4:3 analogue TV I got in 2003.
Stock market? No. Yoga? No. Tennis? No. Dog app? Fuck no. The character switch thing is great, although once I spawned to Trevor as he was driving a scooter into a pickup truck, both of which exploded seconds later. That was kind of annoying.
he was stealing a burrito from a random guy.
just in time as well, as i'm being separated from my 360 for another year on Wednesday.
did anyone chose option A or B on their first playthrough?
and Trevor's post-completion mission with his mother is really :'(
