Usually I drink a bit and sleep for a few hours, then I'm awake until about 6 am, and then I sleep a few hours more. Xanax does not seem to help at all. I'm thinking of trying Melatonin, although my doctor offered to prescribe me something stronger. Seems like alcohol and Xanax are enough habit-forming drugs for me. Reading until I feel sleepy is usually the best thing for dealing with it. What do other people do?
Most awful thing ever.
Things I found that helped...
No caffeine after 7pm
A good run just before bed
A really hot shower/bath just before bed
Reading just before bed
Good luck, anyway.
Baths are helpful. Reading is helpful in the middle of the night, as long as it is not a page turner. What sleeping tablets?
On a looooow dose, but yep, it really helps. Only tkae half a night now. Not good to mix with alcohol though. Fucks you up, maaaaan
habit forming? I am a natural addict and try to avoid anything more than what I do already.
and even if they were, its the trade off for a good nights sleep. Not sleeping affected every facet of my life....i was as anxious as a new born gazelle, unable to function, mood swings, poor sex life.
Once again, good luck!
I'll write that down in case Melantonin doesn't work.
should be unwinding and relaxing for at least 2 hours before bed, and remove tv, electronics etc from your bedroom, not always viable, but if you can do it, then it helps you shut off. Dedicate your bedroom to sleep if possible, so spend less time in there doing other things like watching tv.
works a treat for me [and many others].
Better stop with the plant and get on some of those shitty man made poisons like the rest of the obedient programmed clones.
I think you sleep more but the quality of your sleep is poorer. I read a thing.
considering people are more then whiling to take drugs to sleep as long as they're advertised as sleeping aids, whilst in personal experience the only drug I've had consistent results with when it comes to making me sleepy without any sort of hangover to accompany it is weed... but ya'know keep on taking your sleepy pills and pretend you don't have a drug problem.*
*I used to have trouble sleeping, I have used sleeping aids in the past when necessary, I never got to a stage where I smoke weed on a daily basis in order to stop a sleeping problem.
But I like the idea that no one said 'that's rubbish advise' to the various other sleeping drugs mentioned here whilst I assume that people are saying this because it's a 'drug' in the classic sense and not the drug in the 'latte sipping coffee shop' sense
Purely personal experience though.
but needs to be used sparingly.
you need to be careful with this one. you can do some pretty silly things on it, and not have any memory of it later.
However mostly I do sleep through. Unfortunately for me, my body rarely gets to REM sleep so I feel distinctly shite in the mornings.
usually when i have something important on the next day
I use to do Zopiclone but I ended up leaving during the night and doing things then waking up the next day not having any idea what happened. I didn't find out this was happening until about 6 months and numerous night excursions later. :/
i LIKE THAT YOU WAKE FEELING FRESH AND NOT DROWSY AND AS IF YOU'VE HAD SLEEP AS OPPOSED TO DRUGGED/ DRUNKEN COMA. woops capslock. I'm a bit worried about the sleep walking thing as I get quite scared in the night and I odn't like the thought of this happening.
for my insomnia, was definitely good for waking up not feeling like shit like stuff I'd done in the past.
So no Ambien or Zopiclone. Somehow I must have been sleepwalking last night -- this morning I woke up with a huge painful bruise on my thigh and another one on my lower back on the opposite side. I have no idea how this happened. Bogeyman got in and beat me up?
theo and harru are discussing USB ports on tablets in another thread if that helps at all?
Kalms an hour before bed help but always find myself up in the night waking up for no reason but just *click* wide awake, or sometimes getting cramp/general unpleasant feeling in my legs. Have been trying to cut down on caffiene to see if it helps but think it's all residual stress related.
Have been using desert island discs podcast to help lull myself back to sleep, just chose someone really really dull and it works a treat...!
Please don't ask your doctor for sleeping tablets. I ended up relying on them for quite a long period of time and when I was refused them after a period of time, I started buying Valium from a dealer.
Exercise really helps, and without sounding wank, meditation and yoga can be pretty good too.
