what non-essential shit do you subscribe to each month/whatever?
as in direct dibblys/standing order type stuff. for the sake of arguing let's say a mobile and internet count as essential bills nowadays (they're not, but let's just say that).
just Netflix and Spotify for me, but i've been wondering if there are any good alternatives to them. used to swear by Sky, but now i just watch games online or at the pub. can't really be arsed with LoveFilm, no point really having that AND Netflix, really.
shoot...
Stack Magazines (get a different "indie" magazine every month, I'm a big fan)
Netflix (for Breaking Bad / Orange is the New Black)
Spotify (still think I'm a student so currently £5/month but will cancel soon because...)
Google Play Music all access (prefer it to Spotify)
Pact Coffee every *few* months
Netflix and Google Play Music all access
That's it. MMO free since... dunno. January or so.
tell me more about this Google Play, folks...
pretty similar concept as Spotify
as in you can stream and sync playlists / albums for offline play but IMO the mobile app is much, much better than Spotify's. And there's no desktop app, just a website to stream stuff via an actual computer. Think there's a month free trial if you're curious.
how much good music do they have on there relative to Spotify?
and what are the fees for membership?
I haven't found anything "missing" compared to Spotify
Maybe it depends on what you listen to, I don't know.
Free trial + £7.99 forever ("forever") if you sign up before September 15th. So more expensive than Spotify if you only listen at your computer, cheaper if you want to use it on your phone.
This is extremely interesting information...
It's similar to Spotify, basically
But none of the social features (or if there are, I haven't found them).
Pros: £7.99 a month (until mid-September, I think) gets you unlimited access to all the music on it and some fairly high number of tracks from your own collection. The phone app is really nice, but I haven't tried the Spotify one.
Cons: runs in a browser and no desktop app. This is surprisingly annoying. Not yet very good for listening to playlists from elsewhere for (e.g.) finding new music.
Basically it's £7.99 a month for what I would need to pay a tenner to Spotify for, in terms of streaming stuff on my phone.
i like the fact it runs in a browser actually
since the Spotify software went to complete shite
I dislike that it makes media keys basically useless
And I miss being able to pause/skip Spotify from across the room with my phone. That only works if the Google Music tab has focus, which is a bit limiting.
Actually
http://apps.codigobit.info/2011/10/google-music-desktop-player.html is okish.
laithwaites keeps sending me increasingly expensive boxes of wine
LoveFilm
Wish I had time to watch the films they send me
get a dvd ripping thing
that's what I do, maximum turnover and you can watch whenever u want
is there one that works? what do you use?
every time I've tried (like twice ever) it takes ages and comes out really poor quality, and often with a huge logo stamped on every second of the video.
DVD Decrypter
then feed it through Handbrake.
I paid for it but in my opinion it's well worth it
http://www.winxdvd.com/
It's probably best to wait for a deal to come along, think I paid about £23 ($35) for three copies. But now I can send them straight back and get a maximum turnover, plus watch all my discs on my iPod when I'm on trains/buses etc.
Fabricfirst - Fabriclive series CD every other month.
Don't bother paying for the Fabric series - not reliably decent enough. Never use the discounted entry shizz.
i had a subscription to this a few years ago
was completely ace, and got cheap entry a few times. I miss it.
Netflix
Lovefilm
Gym membership
Naughty illegal sports streaming site subscription
WHU membership
Ditched eMusic a while back but had that for years
Actually
Lovefilm comes free with something else so I don't have to pay for that. And the West Ham thing is taken all up front rather than a monthly payment so technically doesn't fit the parameters either.
Lovefilm
Spotify
Fabricfirst (Wza is way the fuck wrong about the Fabriclive side being stronger by the way. Typical Wza)
NFL Gamepass
£17 a month to Mencap
i agree that the fabric series is better as well
Soz TheWza
Soza
Probably shoulda phrased it differently.
It's just not my bag, maaaan. Have got and enjoyed some of 'em, though.
christ
I had a subscription to Fabric for fucking ages, just because there was a gig I wanted to go to there that was a few quid cheaper if you had membership. I intended to quit before the month was out and ended up having it for more than a year because I was so unorganised.
Each CD through the mail was more of a painful mockery than the last of my initial thrifty plan going wildly wrong.
sums up the entire business model
I did the same
The first CD I got from them was no. 51, intended to cancel it at the end of the month. Think I'm up to no.71 now, haven't been to the club in over a year either. They're very good at staggering the quality mixes as well, so there's always something coming up that is just about worth waiting for. Crafty fuckers.
:D
My housemate subscribes to Lovefilm, so I sometimes watch those
Which? magazine
Rough Trade album club
A few charities

Do you mean the free on, man?
yes
Now TV (the Sky on demand service).
Got it on a Groupon deal thing, so it was piss cheap. Like all the other streaming sites, it has half a dozen films you want to watch then a load of shite. Will give it up when the offer runs out.
Spotify
Virgin Media
Giantbomb.com
Is Netflicks worth getting?
If you like watching TV series
For movies, not so much.

BJJ/MMA gym
uploaded.to (not technically a direct debit but I pay for it each month)
seedboxes.cc (very useful if you torrent)
yearly
Godaddy (DNS Services + hosting)
Just Spotify at the moment.
Find it alright to use. The mobile app does the job IMO (I wouldn't call it perfect, but it's good enough).
Thinking about getting an Economist subscription and maybe signing up to Foreign Policy as well.
mubi
spotify
Mubi's better than Netflix imo.
Not that much choice, but loads of interesting films I'd never have seen otherwise. Nice forum too.
Spotify
Used to have an emusic account
Recently got AA after being on the road for about 18 months
I guess technically that's essential..
Besides that, I just have annual THFC membership, but no more monthlies. Use my girlfriend's Netflix don't I lads?

Spotify Premium
LOVEFILM (3 discs, streaming)
Netflix

Bit much. Was a ffs in jest anyway. Mellow out, dude
enjoy your meagre Spotify Unlimited mate
I'm on the same as you, doggie
shout it from the rooftops then, buddy
don't be ashamed. be proud of your streaming privileges!
I'm surprised so many people have Netflix
given the availability of all TV shows elsewhere for £0
I'll probably cancel it when Breaking Bad ends tbf
it's just the most convenient way of watching it
Some of us refuse to illegally download music as well, for the same reasons.
Fitness first membership.
Oh, and Adobe Illustrator app subscription.
Dis premium
I've been thinking about this as well..
What sort of freebies do you get thrown in?
Spotify
Boomerang, a games rental thing I should probably cancel as I never play video games any more.
