How are you?
Have you moved?
I saw dickonthestairs in Warsaw. We were drinking at the same bar. WHAT ARE THE ODDS? Met his thinly-veiled too, she was lovely. I really love Poland WHY AM I BACK HERE? So much work to do. Urgh.
In a torrential downpour of God's fury in the form of rain. Seriously, Saturday, fuck you. It didn't stop. Had to park the van across the street as well. Shifting bookcases in the pouring rain while dodging three lanes of traffic IS NOT FUN. Was possibly the most miserable day of my life. Also spent all of yesterday in the old place, cleaning - scrubbed the oven clean, vacuumed, did everything in the bathroom - considering the amount of work they're going to be doing (total repaint, new extractor fan, sealant replacement), I think we went above and beyond. I'm going to be there with the inventory people to hand back the keys, and if they find fault with anything I'm going to be pissed. (All this is dependent on going back tomorrow with a van to collect some final things like the furniture I couldn't sell on).
To make things more annoying, the new flat has barely been cleaned, like, the most cursory clean imaginable. The oven hasn't been touched, the tops are pretty dirty, the bathroom needs a wipe, the sofas were filthy. The inventory guy said the silver lining was that when we left we only had to leave it at that standard, but that doesn't really help us now.
Oh, and I think I've broken a toe after stubbing it on stupidly placed suitcase.
And now she's a lesbian.
the flat, once clean, is lovely (we have a persistent 'drainy' smell in the bathroom too - we've bleached all the pipes, any other ideas?), and yesterday evening after our cleaning efforts we sat by the river at sunset at the Captain Kidd pub and it all felt, briefly, worth it. So I'm not unhappy. Just tired and annoyed and poor.
Poland sounds boss, I want to go to there.
but I realised the other day that when the flat above is vacant it's not there so I've decided it's something to do with their pipes and I should probably just learn to live with it.
We had a similar thing with moving into our place -- when we arrived in the van, 2 builders were STILL there. Which our landlord neglected to tell us would happen. We're still waiting on stuff like a mirror for the bathroom, living room curtains, loo roll holder, towel rail, bloody SMOKE ALARMS and stuff to be fitted, and he told us it'd be done while we're on holiday (but it hasn't). Also the fridge was absolutely disgusting and the seal on the washing machine is almost black -- not impressed. But like you, the area is AMAZING and the flat, once fully finished, will be brilliant.
BTW the drain smell might be due to the fact that the "stink pipe" is actually physically in the loo? (Google it for a picture to see) We had one in our old house and it constantly smelt and we never got rid of it, my dad said that was the reason.
I'd be speaking ot your landlord though about the s=conditoi of the flat. t's all v well saying thaht that's the only conditoin you need to hand it back in, but unless they've takklen extenxsive photos to evidence this, it will be v hard to prove. Also, form the landlord's pers[pective, it feels very lax not to be insisting on a deep clean between tenants/ Grim. Hope you get it sorted, and glad the move went ahead even if it was stressful.I
I just meant that when I lived around that area I noticed that sometimes the smell from the river was quite high, especially after excessive rainfall/. humidity. Not particularly unpleasant (she says, having being raised by a seaside town) but distinctive nonetheless.
and the U bend seal has passed?
It was THE WORST.
I'm excited to return next year for POLISH WEDDING! It's going to be the best. And we're gonna go to Krakow and possibly Gdansk to visit my bro.
Too much cherry and lemon vodka. SO MUCH BEER! When I saw dots he said he tried but failed to find the university library and I was like OMFGGGG YOU HAVE TO GO THERE!!! I loved it. We did a free walking tour of Warsaw which was very very good. Krakow is GREAT (I don't agree with anyone who says its too touristy, hang out in the Jewish quarter and do the salt mines and Auschwitz) and Gdansk is ridiculously pretty and full of lovely bars. If you go there, make sure to get on a train and go to Sopot where there's a beach and a very long pier. On Sunday night sat in a bar in Katowice I suddenly had a revelation that Polish bars are the best, and I've not been in a duff one at all. But I've been in millions of duff English pubs. Ergo Poland is the best.
Just really nice and pretty and cool! I loved it there. The parks were beautiful too!
I will get some tips from you when we go next year.
I agree with you there. I don't know what makes them so good though. Is it cause its major cheap? The most expensive bar we went to was the one in the old communist HQ. it was a craft beer thing so it was about £2 a pint!
Just, "cool". There's excellent vibes in them, and they're usually full of cool-looking people and playing good music, open late and full of decent beer. I don't think we do bars very well in the UK. (Bet someone will prove me wrong here).
One of the things I've liked best about moving back to scotland is that there are great bars that stay open till 2 or 3 and play good music, meaning that you don't have to find a nightclub or a clubnight to stay out late drinking. I don't know if it's a licesning issue or a cultural thing.
What is the temperature like there just now?
but we went to an all-night OUTDOORS music festival for the last few nights and the temperature dropped to about 10 degress, it was fucking FREEZING.
I went to Gdansk in January. It was minus 30 or something. But very pretty.
It might be a nice place to go in the run up to christmas..... BUT THE COLD!! I'm going to investigate, thanks :)
Proper hot and still quite warm in the evening. I took a jacket and never wore it despite being out late.
Although its illegal to drink on the streets, its no illegal to drink by the river so loads of people just go down there (I got bitten to pieces walking past the river so I want up for it)
I always think about how shut our bars are when we go to Paris because I love just sitting on those little tables on the street and not having to queue for a drink. We could never do it here as no one could be trusted to pay the bill.
played last night on earth yesterday. it's ace.
probably will run an avalon game tomorrow evening if people are interested
Weekend was pretty boring. Feel pissed off already. I am really begrudging having to come into work at the moment.
Barely slept last night partly because i'm stressed about the amount of work I've got on and partly because the girl who's just moved into the flat above mine was having very loud sex all night.
Just put in for a week off at the end of September which I know I'm going to have to fight for because it's inconvenient but I've used 1 days leave since April and am completely burnt out.
I let two of the guys have my bed because they had nowhere to stay last night. I slept on the floor. Not exactly conducive to a productive workday.
Also, Electric Picnic has sold out and I don't have a ticket. I have the money, someone give me a ticket!
And three of them involve me being involved in some excruciatingly dull business perfomance bullshit where I have to tediously log all activity I take on each account so the project guys can figure out averages on accounts and stuff, when all I really want to do is surf the web and look at flatshares. Uselsss.
- puppy vacinations
so far today and have to
- price car hire
later on today.
and then trod on dog poo (i hope it was dog) this morning. Fucking carnival revellers trashing the city.
it was Frank's, but same difference.
What the hell.
(Yes my countdown was a day out fml etc)
to the big building on the left:
which isn't in a bad location (see A):
the building is also apparently mine, which is a nice touch haha:

and the balconies seem to have ok views:
and you get one of these inside your actual room:
just to hungover to post.
Hope you're well.
hope you have a great time! so happy for you!!
This weekend I:
Went to a Brazilian BBQ
Went to Carnival for the first time
Went to a 90th Birthday party
Came back to witness the aftermath of Carnival (we live right in the middle of the route)
going okay so far. Too many tours are getting announced. Getting a headache trying to figure out how I'm going to afford them all.
did my first proper commute today
the weather is nice tho - not sure i'm going to enjoy it in the rain so much
Orange is the New Black
booked Friday off too
great weekend. But I feel a bit of an alky and should stop.
Gonna buy this baby today, I think. http://images.sportsdirect.com/images/products/76614090_l.jpg
Can someone give me a job and a room? Thanks.
My flat got sold in Scotland and I couldnt be bothered to sort out a new job & flat so just left
just come back. there are admin jobs going in both my glasgow and edinburgh offices, but I know you maybe want to move away from office stuff. Let me have a think.
Yeah I've been offered an apprenticeship with a couple of colleges but theyre ballaches to get to. If theres jobs in Edinburgh and you can put in a word for me I'd definitely give it a shot at applying! I dont mind business admin, just not plebby general public stuff!
It seems that shit hasn't hit the fan whilst I've been gone, but I am miserable at my desk in a post-holiday way.
Also, didn't get the job that I applied for two weeks ago, despite them requesting to speak to my references, which they didn't do.
Getting my eyes tested and going shopping as its pay day and I've been horribly poor for the last 2-3 weeks.
felt well enough to go to the beer festival - it rained all day, but had a good time with my mates.
Sunday - played 2 massive games of Warhammer (FAO of Songs_About_Ducking) and lost both games, but it was entertaining.
Monday - read Casino Royale, saw the parents, wrote a review, watched first 2 episodes of Under The Dome - it's ok, suffers from having immensely stupid characters and some are very annoying, so I'll probably keep watching it. Also, Zelda from Sabrina is in it.
milton keynes is fucking odd
Everyone has flying cars and eats meals in pill form. It also has that really long shopping centre.
it's like the East Kilbride of the South (roundabouts and call-centres.)
unusual. Only 4 days work then off to that London for some sightseeing n stuff.
i'm wearing a cardigan
I'm really tired. my friend was round last night and we drank loads of wine and I slept terribly cause my bf was getting up to start a new job today and I kept worrying that he'd sleep badly (he did) or sleep through the alarm (he didn't).
Just got an email from gumtree warning me about the brothel owner who'd been contacting me (I ended up emailing someone I know who run a women's liberation/welfare campaigning organisation thing).
Got an interview at a well known fresh handmade cosmetics shop later but I think I'm too moody to work in retail again. feeling really anxious about not knowing what I want to do/can do as a career.
(If you do take that job, you'll see loads of me as I go through their body cream which matches my perfume at a rate of about one tub a fortnight.)
Good luck! It's impossible not to feel chirpy then you're in that shop.
I've also applied to Bravissimo which I think I would be better at cause I love bras <3
I will also see a fair bit of you if you take that job :D
went to York at the weekend, was pretty good. Saturday was mainly driving up, bit wet for much exploration. went to castle Howard (if you like big old houses, it's good) and the city itself on Sunday, and drove back on Monday.
this week I am on IT support duty, which is going to be dull. so far I have has one person who says their second monitor doesn't work. might have a look this afternoon?
I cycle up there quite a lot, such pretty countryside round there.
someone's brought in a "sorry you're leaving" cake that they made over the weekend for me. that's nice :)
£34 per month (for 36 months) and I get UNLIMITED Weekend Calls to 5 numbers and 6000 texts (WOW, Speechless) a Month which half carry over of the total amount left at the end of my monthly billing period. I also get 500mb of Data (which i wont use by THANKS!!!) and this is the best part £50 M&S Vouchers!!!!!!! HOW CAN THEY AFFORD THIS!!!!!
Lost my phone last night so so convenient you can order new ones online, although cant be bothered getting my same number back
I might as well get my 'mobile kit' ready for this one (he he) For my iPhone I had an a4 leather pouch that I adapted from an iPad case into a (slightly) functional iPhone one. If there anything like this for the Samsung Galaxy S2? or will i have to make one again?
Then watch Stanley brinks and the wave pictures at the shckleton arms
forgot my lunch.
I'm one miserable mother licker today.
hope yer reet.
im off to get a sarnie.
3 of them were great, one was a chore.
Had a huge falling out with a best mate. We said some pretty bad stuff to each other, hopefully we can sort it out.
David Byrne & St. Vincent tonight!
END OF THE ROADDDDD festival this weekend.
so feeling ok about work.
got my shit done this morning so in cruise control now.
watched some baboons steal a rubber trim off our car and then use it to try to tear off another car's wingmirror. That's some Rise Of The Planet Of The Apes shit there. Also saw far too many people with their windows open and their children on their lap whilst driving through the FUCKING LION ENCLOSURE. This country.
to obscure a lovebite that I received at the weekend. (85%)
It was already bad enough when I turned up to a family lunch on Sunday not realising it was there until my sister pointed at me and shouted "WHAT'S THAT ON YOUR NECK", cue several hours of embarrassing speculation from my family about my sex life.
Apart from that I had a top top weekend.
I am out of the loop, and I don't like it.
Well, if you will hang around on rooftops...
dead excited to get the new ones.
time to cancel
