Mrs C_B just asked what I was laughing at :)
i'm too lazy to figure out london on my own. i am staying near edgware rd underground, tell me somewhere good (not hideously expensive) to eat/drink near that and also if there's anywhere nice to hang out within walking distance cos i'm too poor for too much london public transport. or just tell me one pure great area of london that i should hang out in for a day.
I second the John Soane house recommendation - it's probably my favourite museum in London. http://www.soane.org/
You're probably better off heading into Soho for something to eat, although Edgware Road does have a few decent Chinese places (eg Royal China) and shisha bars.
It's a bit of a cliche, and pretty redundant if you've been to London before, but a nice walk is to go from London Bridge station, through Borough Market, past the Golden Hind, and then along the river to Tate Modern and then the Southbank near Waterloo.
The Proms are on at the moment too - timetable here: http://www.bbc.co.uk/proms/whats-on/2013/August-26
where is good and not hideously expensive in soho? i have barely been to london except on shite tourist trips so maybe i will do that walk.
but it can be a bit pricey when it all adds up and if you buy a few drinks too.
If you get there outside of peak times, then Yalla Yalla is nice and cheap: http://www.yalla-yalla.co.uk/
Koya does great udon noodles too, but is a little more expensive: http://www.koya.co.uk/
All three of these are in Soho, within a few hundred yards of each other.
If you need more ideas, this has a good run-down of excellent individual dishes: http://www.timeout.com/london/restaurants/the-100-best-dishes-in-london-2012
They do amazing burgers and the best ribs in London. Something tells me you're veggie though.
especially as you'll be in the area. Cannot recommend it enough.
one of those old rich guys who decides to collect everything. Some of the rooms are amazing, the 'breakfast room' stood out to me. Its really light despite facing onto the back of another house. Loads of mirrors and that. He's also got a sarcophagus in his house, along with a couple of hogarths. Also a room he designed specifically to make him feel moody - there's a skull on the table and he writes funny livejournally stuff in it like "went out for another walk and had dinner on my own... AGAIN! Woe!"
can't wait to chill out in the skull room.
According to the website they do them on the first Tuesday of every month.
a perfect evening.
the "yes_" character would never endorse this sort of thing
I wish I knew what my 'character' was meant to be?
