The best football instragram video ever, and that's all, really. Anyone grab any Conference action last night?
for Chester. When you're facing a physical organised team like Hereford we're going to have to get fit and have some set piece ideas pretty quickly. I'm not sure we've got the right players either.
After only losing 12 games in the last 3 seasons it kind of feels like being a Chester fan again getting beat twice in a week. I'm more familiar with this feeling.
As I'm not going to have a working TV until next Thursday, I need to find somewhere to watch this. Anybody know which pubs in Glasgow are showing it?
or the griffin
saw 5 minutes or so of highlights, probably would've been 8 or 9 if there was a proper striker in the place of wickham
Edin Dzeko (Man City) to Arsenal
Michu (Swansea) to Arsenal
Jesus Gamez (Malaga) to Arsenal
Scott Parker (Spurs) to Fulham
Hugo Almeida (Besiktas) to West Ham
Stephane Lichtsteiner (Juventus) to Arsenal
Marc Bartra (Barcelona) to Spurs
Toby Alderweireld (Ajax) to Newcastle
Esteban Granero (QPR) to Fulham or Real Sociedad
assuming Bosnia qualify as expected.
He'd be the main man just about anywhere in England and most leagues in Europe, but I kind of forget he's even at City sometimes
Seemed like about half of our aftermatch interviews on MOTD last season were him complaining about starting on the bench
I actually think Dzeko could do quite well for us tbf, we might shit our pants at his wages though.
Luis Gustavo is going to make an 'announcement' about his future tomorrow. Even allowing for football player levels of hubris, he's no LeBron James (or Eden Hazard), so I'd imagine he's staying put.
Would be such a massively better bit of business for a arsenal than just splashing it all on Suarez
For all the gloom around our transfer window, if we went and got Dzeko and Gustavo or Schneiderlin for about £15m each and a decent young centre half for say £10m then our squad would look a lot better and we'd still have £30m in the WARCHEST for Arsene to chuck at a tiny attacking midifelder who he could maroon on the left wing for a couple of years.
We're not really in a position to sell strikers anyway.
My transfer masterplan's in danger of falling apart within half an hour; time for decisive action.
Will £6m and Ignasi Miquel change your mind?
Might come good this year but I'd much rather see some central combination of Aguero and someone playing behind him like Silva or Jovetic.
but when he's in form/confident, he's still a good striker. He doesn't kick up too much of a stink when he doesn't start, especially not in the media.
Also, for all the striker merry go round business that was touted, there don't seem to be many people we could replace him with, and we shouldn't be going into the season with Guidetti as third choice striker.
If we can get Zlatan on the other hand...
Every interview with him last year was him moaning about being used off the bench.
In former Yugoslavia, we ate supersub, yes? They are type of olive you are having with goat. That I am olive to you I am not understanding and asking that you do not call me this. I am starting every game now yes thank you.
remember when the national side was underperforming and the lazy narrative was that none of the players got on. glad that's been put to bed pun intended
What he really means is that nobody wants to buy him that can afford him. The tit.
"I hate the British press. Actually no, the British press are alright. Wouldn't mind playing Champions League football though. Actually, I really want Champions League football. I was promised it. I'll sue you bastards! Actually, best not. I'm fine here, the fans are nice."
The most depressing thing is that I don't know why I expected anything else.
"So first you agree a release clause, but forget to get it in writing. Then you tell everyone in Europe to bid £1 over it which only succeeded in pissing off the owner. Then you get me to call everyone cunts in that interview and pretend to be injured so I ended up training on my own. Now you're telling me I have to stay here, not play in the Champions League, apologise to everyone and listen to this idiot for another year? Show me your arm...."
I would say though that we're likelier to finish higher with than without him though. If that's 5th instead of 6th or 7th then it's meaningless, but hopefully they'll squeeze in a couple more signings to make an even higher finish a hope. Worrying lack of defensive signings though for me.
Hate using tablets to type
Preferably Alderweireld as he'll be cheaper than Ashley Williams. Going into the season with Kolo Toure as one of our first choice centre backs concerns me, particularly if Skrtel's off to Naples.
So I'd rather we signed the Greek guy just cos of his mental face.
He looks like a full-sized toddler.
that's not a real name.
3rd round of the Carling Cup would probably be a good first competitive game back i'd guess. this is all best case though.
I really hope he recovers and becomes the main man in midfield again, his energy and drive have been sorely missed, in my opinion. There's a definite whiff of an Owen Hargreaves about the way United are reporting the updates of his progress though.
Not sure that's technically within his remit, but if he's as passionate about this as he is his choice of music, I'd advise Woy to go along with it.
approaching every member of Madrid's mdfield, like we're drunkenly staggering around a club at 3am and our first second and third choices have turned us down.
the only player there's any proof Man Utd've bid for is Fabregas.
my main worry is that there's only three days left to sign Fellani before the start of the season.
Just thinking we've been linked with Ronnie, Modric and now Ozil. Could be total bullshit, could be because the clubs are talking about *someone*...maybe.
Thought we bid for Baines as well? Everton have confirmed that someone bid for him.
Increasingly mental if there's anything in it. Not only is it another player who won't want to join who Madrid won't want to sell, it would make even less sense as a signing if it came off given Kagawa can't get a look in.
We should play a game and guess who the next one they'll be linked with is. Thomas Muller I'll go for.
I'm going with Kroos though
Kondogbia, Gustavo, Fellani, Hughes, Mcarthy, Osman, Fat Andy Reid, anyone!
So you know... *that's just like a new signing klaxon*
Not only will United not sell to Chelsea UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES, but they decided they didn't fancy Alcantara and are confident that, contrary to everything Barca and the player have said in public, Fabregas would 'jump at the chance' to abandon his boyhood club for Old Trafford. Absolutely sterling work.
Give it a couple of years, Utd will be 6th and Moyes will be saying how the biggest club in the universe doesn't settle for second best.
I find it very hard to believe that he won't be sold, and not because Chelsea are some unstoppable transfer juggernaut they won't be able to hold out against. More because it's seemed to me that United have wanted him gone for the last six months, aggressively briefing against him to every journalist who'll listen and leaking his every discontent. Has there been a genuine change of heart, a panic at the fact that no-one other than Chelsea came in, or is this just positioning and he's already as good as gone?
I'd put my money on the last option, personally.
I thought that maybe they're holding out until they've made a relatively big I thought that maybe they're holding out until they've made a relatively big signing themselves. The idea being that if the first significant thing to happen on Moyes' watch is the departure of a star player then it could undermine signing themselves. The idea being that if the first significant thing to happen on Moyes' watch is the departure of a star player then it could undermine him a bit.
Fergie and The Wazzamatron clearly fucking hate each other, so the club might well have been laying the groundwork for booting Rooney out, only for Moyes to turn up and decide he doesn't want to sell him, especially to Chelsea and especially when their attempted signings are a bit of a clusterfuck.
His ego wouldn't allow it.
Team: Woah. Who's coming in?
Fergie: It's Moyesy
Rooney: I'm not playing for him, I hate him. I'm leaving, for real this time
Fergie: Whatever Wayne, I'm not arsed any more
I sincerely doubt it was anything less than six months ago.
We're doomed if we do, doomed if we don't at the minute. We're currently carrying a player who doesn't want to be at Utd, visibly can't give a fuck on or off the pitch and performances have been worse than useless for the tail end of the season. He's been "unfit" for an entire pre-season whilst he sulks and given the state of him after a proper summer of training usually I can only imagine what he'll be like after this. He's costing the club millions and as an asset (urgh) his value can only depreciate by keeping hold of him.
On the other hand, a motivated Rooney is still one of the best players in the league and will guarantee you 30 goals a season (assists inclusive) so to hand that to a rival on a plate, regardless of the fee is competitive suicide. The fact that it's seeming increasingly likely that a motivated Rooney at Utd isn't achievable and that there are no other takers is the main issue here.
but whether it will be this transfer window, I'm not sure. Moyes can't let a big player fuck off at this point. I feel like some course of action has already been decided but dunno what. Letting him go to Chelsea would be a disaster.
reckon he just wants out of manchester. last time man utd paid him enough to reconsider, this time he knows no-one else will pay him any more so he is going for a different angle.
if he doesn't want to be here then i say get rid. weird that no-one else has offered more than £25m though when you see some of the prices players are going for, even if he turned down a move to PSG/Monaco or whatever.
Even Bayern would be improved with him, Guardiola seems to want a striker to play as a deeper false nine (vomits) and doesn't have anyone in his current squad who fits that bill. Rooney would be perfect for it, occupies exactly the space that he would want occupied, is a legitimately fantastic player and he's available. I can't understand why nobody is making that link.
just dont rate him as highly.
But he's certainly in that next bracket which is still a rarity when they become available.
Only the English are obsessed with how allegedly shit all English football is. The rest of the world isn't interested in our nation-wide insular football breakdown. My limited anecdotal evidence is that Rooney is very well-regarded elsewhere. The more likely reason is that his agents have told anyone asking that he's not interested in moving abroad.
If anything I think it's in England where Rooney is least well rated. Gary Neville saying 'look guys, he's really not shit' was national news.
Sent out no signals to come get him, and therefore when the Chelsea bid came in they announced in alongside the whole Mata/Luiz thing. 'You unsettle one of our best players, we'll try to unsettle yours'... at the same time announcing that they think Rooney is worth more than arguably the best player in the league.
I don't actually think that the stance put forward in the Guardian report is that infeasible. At the same time it's interesting that Rooney hasn't been publicly agitating for a move in the same way that Suarez is or RVP did, clearly cautious of pushing himself beyond the point of no return.
Would they sell him abroad? Probably. Will they sell him to Chelsea? Very much doubt it, and not without them forking out some serious cash monies
Makes perfect sense.
Palace are after both. Jim Carrey has turned us down.
I don't want us breaking the bank, we got him on a free, it's only a one year contract and Arsenal are still paying half his wages.
He started of quite well at Arsenal, then obviously Van Persie came back, then he got Malaria and then didn't really get used on loan at West Ham. He has to be better than Aaron Wilbraham.
Play to Chamakh's strengths (being tall) and give him a run of games and he'll get goals. Might want to stick a curfew on him too.
For all that he pisses me off, I really think Bendtner's a good player, his brain just needs fixing. Wenger and Conte couldn't do it, maybe Holloway's own brand of lunacy will prove a good fit.
1 to 5 on in the betting too.
I'm quite happy with Bent, Gayle and Chamakh as a front three. We desperately need defenders though.
It's a pretty big deal for most top level players to be playing in that competition these days. Whilst the club may be willing to sign players before we have qualified (as Gazidis has stated), the players themselves may not be ready to sign until we do. It would also explain why we managed to do all our transfer business early last summer as having finished third we were already qualified when the transfer window had opened. For me it's the only logical explanation. I can't see a manager as experienced as AW deliberately waiting this long to sign players unless he had no other option. I think we have enough in the squad to get through the first 3 PL games and CL qualifiers. Hopefully some quality reinforcements will then come in for the rest of the season. It's not ideal and I'm sure AW knows this, but it's the price you pay for finishing fourth and not any higher.
but I think there's a more logical explanation: the club have made a complete bollocks of this window
More likely is we've drawn a blank on all our top targets, with a few second choices going elsewhere in the meantime, and they're now frantically trying to nail 2 or 3 decent signings before the window closes. Trouble is, clubs can smell both the desperation and the WARCHEST and Arsene refuses to budge on his valuations.
was suspending judgement for ages, but when you're 3 days away from the start of the season and all youve done is sign a kid for a free who's already got a hamstring injury, you can't really have any excuses.
Think our biggest mistake was switching targets halfway through the window. If we wanted Suarez, we should've been in for him from the start of the window. Or we should've had a look but maintained a priority on someone else.
And also shouldve actually bothered signing Bernard or someone similar. Had fucking loads of good players or their agents saying something about being interested in signing for us, not pursued any of them really :(
it's someone else's (Gazidis', i imagine) job to surround him with really good staff whose purpose it is to do the things that wenger isnt great at well. Dick Law does 'transfer negotiations', but doesn't have any real power to decide anything (and is supposedly a bit shit anyway).
Can't help but think Gazidis is a bit spineless though. One withering look from Wenger as he meekly suggests hiring a director of football would be enough for him never to acknowledge such a position exists ever again.
Or was it ever actually on? From the outside it looks like Wenger balked at the price.
madrid upped the price by about £10m, we didn't think it was worth it, didn't bid again.
At the time seemed like a good decision, and would've been had we signed someone else. But y'know...
I mean realistically 25 mil (especially if that's in euros) is very good value and 35 mil slightly overpriced...but I really thought Higuain fit the bill of what Arsenal needed. Suarez is a better player but I don't think he would've added anything Higuain couldn't have...plus there's the baggage.
Sorry if that rubs salt into the wound...Dzeko would be a good signing but City seem so much less likely to sell than they did months ago.
I just don't understand how someone as experienced as Gazidis and Wenger can make such a mess of things. The Suarez bid seems like a complete waste of time now, but they must have more transfer targets. Lets hope we get a few players in before the deadline, better late than never.
wonder if he'll break into the Chelsea team this season. probably too many in front of him but he should be getting the odd game if he isn't loaned out, whether as a CM or back at CB
what's the score gonna be?
I'm gonna go for Scotland 2 England 1.
I am basing this on absolutely nothing other than perhaps foolish optimism, but then that's how we roll!!
Adrian Chiles unable to contain himself, Gareth Southgate misuses the word 'ironic', advert break in the 61st minute
Gordon Greer (2,3,7,36,51,90+1,90+7)
Wilshire OG (88,89)
Scott Brown, headbutt (8)
Gary Mackay-Steven, Violent Play (58)
Leigh Griffiths, Assault (58)
Rickie Lambert, Simulation (90+2)
Matt Gilks, David Marshall, Allan McGregor, Steven Hammell, Grant Hanley, Alan Hutton, Russell Martin, Charlie Mulgrew, Andy Webster, Steven Whittaker, Charlie Adam, Barry Bannan, George Boyd, Chris Burke, Scott Brown, Craig Conway, Graham Dorrans, James Forrest, Gary Mackay-Steven, Shaun Maloney, James McArthur, James Morrison, Robert Snodgrass, Steven Naismith, Kenny Miller, Jordan Rhodes
as will anyone watching
can someone send me the DiS league code please? thanks
can we please have a separate thread for fantasy football each weekend this year that I can therefore avoid please please please
Burgundy-esque from him.
You going to be doing the prediction league this season?
Check the new "wildcard" match. Basically the same but you get treble what you wager, or lose it if wrong.
I'll also run a simpler 3pts/1pt version for the lolz.
Just went through it and there were transport police everywhere, several people unconscious on the floor and a floor covered in bottles which resembled a festival after 3 days. Highlight was a guy dressed up as a bagpiper claiming he wasn't going to drink his half drunk bottle of wine on the tube.
which is where they've all been meeting up during the day.
i seem to fall into this trap before every England fixture.
don't come on here to lecture other people for wasting their time later in the season...
would be the most cultured and yet immobile midfield in the league
Pass comes from Welbeck, our Theo controls it further than I can shoot
just that Theo looked a lot less keen to receive the pass once the option of a through ball was gone.
Not the first mistake he's made for England this year.
Morrison's very good a that, mind.
lol @ anyone thinking he's legitimately world class
if you're the best goalkeeper in the best league in the world (according to most people) for several years (four i think) then you're by right world class, surely?
don't think there's any real question of there being a better goalkeeper in England, English or otherwise, but Roy Keane called it correctly very early - obvious overconfidence. a very dangerous thing for a keeper.
hopefully we won't have *another* one of those nights watching England where we all try to out-troll eachother, though.
another reincarnation, eh.
thought you'd got a girlfriend, mate?
think england have played #decently so far
to go with the current #santanderadcurse
Im probably the least nationalistic person ever but there's something about the England football team that disgusts me.
a) because their fans actually support their team,
b) because it obviously means something to their players
c) because watching Rooney, Walcott, Gerrard, etc, wing it for 60 minutes at Wembley's over the years has become tediously dull.
come on Russia!
sounds like a great game
- too many tattoos
- looks a bit like a bird of prey
- kicked a ball in anger at Juan dreamboat Mata
- looks a bit mean generally
- really isn't better than Glen Johnson (!)
- really isn't that good at all, I don't think
I think I find Alan Hutton to be less unpleasant than Kyle Walker. Not even Alan Hutton's mother thinks he is less unpleasant than Kyle Walker.
I think I may have a problem. It's not normal to dislike Kyle Walker this much.
or is he just going for the man more than the ball tonight?
His riposte of the brek Shea shoot is most impressive
chiles please stop mate
Dunno what the fuck the centre-half was doing, mind.
Must be chuffed to equal his goal tally for last season, th'lad.
I mean on the Premier League Fantasy Football site - my flatmate's roped me into playing for once...
in another it's sad that it's even newsworthy.
Actually a decent line.
(someone has done it but its what i was going to write anyway so..)
looks like that teenage bingeing on the buckfast has really taken its toll
Jocky Scott aged Leigh at least a decade
the other 12 international midfielders United have should see the through.
He is one of the most down to earth and nicest footballers you could meet. I really hope everything works out for him, even though its for Man United.
the new Duncan Edwards is here.
hopefully we won't have *another* one of those nights watching England where we all try to out-troll each other, though
but really, you need to go and see your GP.
you still have your mod powers, right?
schoolboy error there, bud!
in their WC qualifier
Hart- awful blooper for the first goal
Walker- bit of a hacker
Cahill- far too happy to buy a shimmy
Jagielka- clearly been training with Roberto Martinez
Baines- no fair criticism tonight but hasn't really had to do any defending
and Baines grew into the game.
Cahill was obviously extremely poor again, and Hart should've stopped the first goal but didn't put a foot wrong otherwise.
Walker should be about England's 6th choice right-back.
the sort of "to be fair no-one covered themselves in glory, did they?" spiel you trot out every time a Chelsea player has a bit of a whoopsie. Cahill was poor, Jagielka wasn't, but no biggy.
GET A GIRLFRIEND
genuinely don't remember him touching the ball bar the one he chucked into his own net.
You're all right.
Welbeck MotM for me.
Jagielka, Cleverly, Lampard and Lambert from the bench, all decent.
Everyone else a 6/10.
Positive from Scotland, some decent spells. Need to be able to defend set pieces better, but that was no disgrace.
people whinging about Paddy Power adverts.
replaced by PAOK, pending their appeal. You'd think they'd sort out all these expulsions/appeals a good time before any actual matches are played, both this and the Fenerbahce business already seem pretty farcical.
that goal clearly meant more to him than virtually any goal England have scored has to any player since, well, AGES.
that's what it SHOULD be like; playing for your country being the absolute pinnacle of your career, instead of earning £100k a week.
Not like England did much better when players weren't earning £100k a week.
couldn't give the slightest shit if England do well or not, just want to see players proud to wear the shirt. would glady sacrifice the bit of quality we do have for players being selected on merit irrespective of who they play for, the big clubs not being allowed to dictate how tings go, and England generally meaning something to people again.
Are they gonna show it?
Thought it'd be dull, was quality, and we beat a team whose fans hate us.
Sorry if I offended anyone by admitting to supporting England, btw.
I was there when he made his Saints debut at Huddersfield, little did I know I was watching England number 9!! So great to watch someone progress over the years like he has. And to think some people doubted he was good enough for the Championship!!
He's England's number 9 in my heart.
i think there's a chance that the 20-year-old £17m England international might be okay.
when he was young. raw talent but very frustrating in bad decision making and over doing it and not passing it
not that he will be as good as CR but if moyes can mentor and train him well then a lot of that skill and pace and fast feet will make him into a good player, maybe.
that said, i think people too often ignore how much he loses the ball and instead proclaim him as any more than a promising player. in the championship for palace last season (i went to see them a lot) he spent long periods being ineffective, and even in the play-off final he only pulled off darting runs a few times, and lost the ball often (but still got MOTM)
he's like that annoying player on fifa who never passes it to you and goes for glory all the time
moyes/holloway presumably have let him do it because it works now and again
Wilf learnt to become a team player and tracked back and tackled. Yes he had a bad patch in the middle of last season, but he'll give everything for the cause. Yes, he has the confidence to try things others won't but he isn't selfish. If Manchester United give him time and don't get on his back from day one they will have a gem.
i didn't mean to say he is selfish, just that he is raw at the moment and in time will refine his game. i do think he often picks the wrong option, but then again a lot of teams last season double or triple marked him.
to reiterate, i do really like him a lot and i think he will be great one day
ex-diser snow_brigade put it on his facebook, he's not the #breakingtwitternews type normally
Everyone has been done by that Benteke rumour! #NotInjured #PeopleBelieveAnyRumourOnTwitter
really wish we could go back to the days when we actually found out about news via the news, and not forty seconds after it happens (or doesn't) from some fucking dickhead on Twitter.
Completely unqualified, unconnected and quite illiterate. Using Sulia is a sure sign someone isn't to be trusted.
The fake texts kill me
The woman who tried restoring that classic painting has had a go at it.
Any england fan celebrating that win needs to take a long hard look in the mirror and think for a while.
Two goals will do nicely. I thought it might be Kenny's last game, but after that goal it's best not to be. I'm still pissed off Naismith didn't get more of the game though, I'd have brought him on when they hooked Forest.
Otherwise, no bad. A reasonable performance, and hopefully it'll keep the heads up and focus some minds.
as suspected england are pretty shite
welbeck looks well good though, easily the best player on the park
hart is shite
if someone had to score a winner against us i'm glad it was lambert, guy looked genuinely delighted
kenny miller scored :,D
new wembley seems well boring compared with the old one, better than new hampden though i guess
fuck english football
