England name unchanged side. Bird in for Starc for the aussies.
England to bat first. People shrug.
i'm scared of chester-le-street.
is it okay to laugh at monty or is he having a mental breakdown?
lancs/hampshire quarter final was the best domestic t20 i've ever seen, carberry was incredible and making 200 in a losing cause... :)/:'(
already looks a bit nibbly this pitch
so the legend goes.
it's a treacherous pitch.
Can't see the logic in not picking him. Class act is Onions.
fletcher always seemed more interested in trying to force saj mahmood in the side
The obsession now seems to be with nurturing a long tail. So someone like Onions tends to get overlooked in the name of lesser bowlers like Bresnan. Big shame. Onions will bowl line and length all day long. Not sure if he's a match-winner a la Broad. But he'll always get wickets and always keep the run rate down. Brilliant bowler. With the demise of Tremlett and the non-promise of Finn, Onions is the only sensible choice.
Really looking forward to it. Has the pitch been as crazy this year as it normally is?
and made now more than about 267 or something.
think cricket tops the list of things i care about least in the world though
Shouldn't it be graft, Cricinfo? Grifting is conning people isn't it?
so I clearly didn't read it properly.
Anyone got a problem with that?
They're talking about how punk Alastair Cook is.
Improving since Trott came in (now there's a delicious irony) but still rubbish.
always been trott's problem, too reckless by half.
so boring, absolutely no need to be batting this slow.
Is he seeing off the new ball until after tea?
Can't believe some clowns are calling for hotspot to be removed, its the best innovation in cricket.
I remember watching the Jeff Crowe one
And cite FACTS and stuff about how grafting early on made sense, because he could then accumulate at will later on. And then Cook got out as I clicked Reply.
but not after you've face 60-odd balls
Once the ball's 30-40 overs old, even as an opener, the pace should tick up. Slow uncomfortable 50 accomplishes nothing.
5 down in 60 overs isn't bad but for 170 runs it's pretty poor
20th Century Boy.
to keep his place - I can't see him making the final test if he throws his wicket away here.
the batting line up that has had to scramble to rescue a score from 30/3 on 4(?) occassions this series, has failed. Who could see that coming?
to move Root up to open needs a slap.
we're going to get a hiding in oz
seems quite likeable
chucked it away just as we were on the verge of putting them under some pressure.
Someone is going to have to swallow some pride, drop Root back down to 6 and bring Crompton back in to open.
Any test side that seems to be forcing Jonathan Trott to play at a pace that could actually be called "positive" is unlikely to welcome Compton back so soon. I think Bairstow will be given the last test...then they will decide on who goes to Australia.
is down to England vs how much of it is because the Aussies are feeding him leg-side flicks as a planned attack. Which keeps working.
& i thought that was a decent knock tbf. right or wrong, if they did drop him, i don't think they'd go back to compton. it's all set up for super james taylor's glorious return eh.
What Cook, Trott and Bell averaged before this series and do now?
trott: was 50.01, now 47.33
cook: was 49.17, now 48.08
bell: was 45.57, now 47.18
Given Cook and Trott's previous Ashes scores. Cheers!
Logic being that we stuck with Bell when he was a walking wicket in 2005, and he's been our best batsman this series.
Not sure the same could be said about Bairstow.
his technique will improve with time, plus he'll gain composure. Just a hunch.
really want someone to say that.
just hope eng don't get too many runs...
Too many for them now. Already more than they made in their first innings in more batsman-friendly conditions.
Current partnership 31 runs, 3.0 overs, RR: 10.33 (Swann 9, Bresnan 21)
Last Bat SCJ Broad c Smith b Harris 13 (7b 3x4 0x6) SR: 185.71
Fall of wicket: 275/8 (84.6 ov); Partnership: 24 runs, 2.3 overs, RR: 9.60 (Bresnan 10, Broad 13)
lol Steve Smith.
299 to win for Aus. Too much, me thinks.
Love it when you see the crowd starting to react in replays as well.
but LBW appeals in women's cricket sound absolutely terrifying
one just dropped now.
4 runs and over, no wickets :-(
but sadly no, we're still being spanked.
GET IN THERE!
Get another before tea and this looks an evenish session
better be some men round the bat for khawaja now
Review that you cock.
always just running off at a 90 degree angle with a "and fucking what?" look on his face.
Big wicket that
Sounds like things have gotten a bit out of hand since then...
decision to review.
think they've gone up for the noise.
are going to be wondering what the hell is going on here.
usually at a crucial stage
needs to be dropped permanently
rubbish, rubbish batting
Find Australia about 6 down after being 70% of the way to victory. I love cricket.
this is too funny. 5 wickets for 13 runs.
that all happened then.
camera pans to alaistar cook *pulls ear, picks nose*
must be feeling a bit shellshocked. Got the job more than a third done, less than 200 needed in 4 sessions & still find a way to lose horribly.
I want to see this, badly.
Left work at 5:30 more than a little bit concerned, got in and whacked on Sky just in time to see Clarke's stumps go flying and it was all pretty good fun from there.
Broad's clearly a massive prick, but when he gets on a roll he really can be devastating. Seems to have a handy knack of producing in big games too, if he grew a brain he'd be a hell of a cricketer.
Nice to see Big Bres play a major role too, though he'll probably be dropped for The Oval now, the poor, perma-confused looking lad.
I'm genuinely unaware of any off field activities...
Glorious display of the block and leave on display by Laura Marsh. 48 not out off 289 balls.
