Good place for a weekend get away with my thinly veiled?
Anniversary weekend you see.
Is it pricey?
Went last year, first holiday with the gf.
Managed to get trains and a really nice hotel for £300 or so each. It's the perfect size for a long weekend, any longer and you'd be running out of stuff to do.
If you want to be extra fancy with an anniversary treat book a table at Sans Cravate, a delicious, non-stuffy michelin star restaurant in the north of the city. Their tasting menu was incredible.
Lovely vibe, beautiful architecture, plenty of places to stroll around aimlessly going `isn't that nice?` etc.
Wouldn't go for much longer than a weekend though. Not that much there. Slightly expensive - about 5 Euro a pint.
I went on a stag do there recently. Not appropriate for LAD BANTS.
Oi Oi FAIL
do you know how hard it is to get a chilli on in that city?
very few huts in the hills though
Although the bar owners were surprisingly accomodating of a massive group of 20 LADS actually. Most of our party were Northern too. Clearly they weren't fed up with the whole thing yet. One fella couldn't get enough of giving us Litre steins of strong, strong lager and telling us how many times he'd been married (6).
Managed to carry the stag on our shoulders with him singing `Marching On Together (We Love You Leeds. Leeds. LEEDS.)` throughout the main square without attracting derision too. Maybe Bruges wasn't so bad after all for continental shabs.
Cracking omelettes 'n' all.
he's stuck in traffic but he just abandoned his car where it is in the middle of the road to get to the nearest internet cafe
does he do this periodically to check if there's a belgium thread going on
Do you think Maverick cared whether a person had been to his house before they used it?
Anniversary stuff when you're not married = muggy bonehead
The stadium is decrepit and shit (unless their new one is open now) and the standard is pretty poor as well but it's dead cheap.
i went once in august or some shit and it was pretty miserable, completely overrun with tourists such as myself
But I didn't, so it doesn't.
but I must admit I found Bruges a little underwhelming. Not terrible, but also not brilliant - there isn't a great deal to do.
If you're looking for something similar but which IMO is a little more interesting + not unimportantly comes with significant indie pointage, might be worth looking at Cesky Krumlov in the Czech Republic. Worth the slightly-more-hassle it'll take to get there
it's still Merzbow to Bruges' Puddle of Mudd though
Any bar / food / other recommendations would be appreciated as I'm off to Bruges on Friday meself. Thanks.
