just got stung for £12.87. TWELVE POUNDS EIGHTY SEVEN! £8.00 of that was a Royal Mail handling charge.
Got some strange Yellow sticker on the package, not the usual one you get when ordering, say, a pricey CD box set from US Amazon, where you've overshot the 15quid or so you're allowed before owing VAT. Looked it up online & all I could find was people asking "What is this?". Contacted customs & they just referred me to Border Force, who apparently don't have email. At that point I gave up.
And carried no change. Ubertwat.
I've tried my best to see if there's a way to pre-pay but there isn't.
And yes, it's always the PO charge that's the bastard.
What's off, and I reckon illegal, is HMC seem to include the postage costs in their £18 calculation, which is complete bullshit. PickledOuef?
I've been ordering from threadless for years (though this is the first order for a couple of years)
getting it sent straight to work - wonder how that will work with customs charges? assume work will pay the charges, but then wonder if they'll ask me to prove whether it was work related and make me pay if not?
and get it sent to an american address, and then pay a less fucked up fee to get it forwarded (mainly useful for stuff that just doesnt have an option for international delivery).
i wonder if that would get around customs as well, as on the second leg of the journey it's a gift?
