A new low.
when i saw this thread i was thinking, 'hey, maybe verbal's gonna say it's actually good'. ah dear.
it was compelling to watch it get worse as the show went on but it did.
Didn't those guys get nominated for the Perrier last year? Fuck me.
But they just don't translate to TV.
Last show ever deserved the Perrier nomination.
But Badults... eurgh.
so will have a look see. Tbh badults seemed like a sketch show trapped in a sitcom. That doesn't excuse how bad it was though.
and came to conclusion that I've never heard to Pappy's despite all the reviews assuming I have.
What is Pappy's?
What are you all talking about?
a sketch trio who made it
all of the above.
I'd expect to see something this bad on BBC One, but this was on BBC Three, ffs, which usually a safe bet for quality.
Lasted five minutes before turning if off. There's a Horrible Histories Sports Special that needs watching.
someone stop this
Watched 3 minutes of this Badults thing on iplayer. Why do they keep making these shows, why.
shame about the apparent shitness of it, as the group's two podcasts are genuinely really good (I've not seen them live, but these podcasts I think give a sort of impression of what it must be like). But that said the written sketches of Bangers and Mash are often quite weak, while the improvised chat is often very good; and Flatshare Slamdown's shambolic and more free-form approach is really effective and shows them at their best.
I get the feeling then that the more rigid and structured nature of general modern TV comedy isn't really so well-suited to them (they've had a bunch of pilots before this that have apparently not been up to that much, either).
The format is just old and tired and needs to be retired to the graveyard of comedy- ITV.
Their other major pilot was for C4 comedy lab, a game show format which suited them better, but was still very far of the mark.
shirley 'pappy's flatshare slamdown' would work on telly.
But the comments suggest that it's another one of those shows that doesn't translate to tv. See also; We are klang, first series of SLCVehicle, much of Kevin Eldon show. All great live, all poor on tv.
But terribly derivative of other stuff, some of which worked (The Young Ones) some of which didn't (We Are Klang). Basically a radio show unwisely put on the box.
