Maybe one day with rain?
Bake on sun, bake on
are you saying there's only been one day with rain, rather than asking for one day of rain?
I promise I won't post in the new one
Usually the papers say something hyperbolic like OMG ITS THE HOTTEST JULY SINCE RECORDS BEGAN (back in 2009)
but from memory 2006 was the last scorchingly hot summer? Seem to remember plenty of aerial shots of the parks looking brown with their dead grass on the front pages
The last few days I thought a storm was a'coming. But it's only teased so far.
Its gone now though
Other than that, as Lucien said you'll have to go back to 2006. I can't remember a day from March to August of that year that wasn't rampant, unbroken sunshine. Got up to 36 degrees in July of that year didn't it. That was fun.
but only did that by dropping to Fahrenheit, which no one in the country has used seriously for decades?
I don't think that ever happened
It's not going to be 100C is it because WE'D ALL BE DEAD.
Like expressing a journey you made in inches instead of miles so it sounds much much longer.
Faversham, Kent. Hottest temperature ever in the UK. I remember it being the week Permission To Land came out. Not sure why
but I'm not sure if I was conflating the weather and my memories of that awesome post-university summer.
and spent a lot of time April- July on my balcony in my bikini.
The weekends were a bit pish, I seem to remember, but there were long stretches of gorgeous weather during the week. Actually July was a bit shit last year, but early summer was great.
If I hadn't met you. I'd sometimes think you were an internet troll on a mission to consistently wind up sexually frustrated Neutral Milk Hotel fans.
2006 is just a grey blur to me. I think I worked in Ipswich???
possibly even hotter than the great scorch of '06. I'll tell you about it one day
We went to the pub and watched Zinedine Zidane headbutt an Italian. I seem to remember the weather being nice.
All I can remember is that
saw REM at the Brixton Academy; also saw The Polyphonic Spree. Went to the Edinburgh fringe (remembering how lovely it was to be in a city that wasn't fucking boiling). Swam in the sea in Bournemouth. LOADS of people got married that year.
I don't remember much about 2006.
going in to get my round and seeing Rodriguez's beast of a goal in the Argentina - Mexico match. Which means it was a sunny day in Sheffield on 24 June 2006.
I can never remember what the last one was like. Ever.
By the time summer comes around,
If Autumn is soon well amd gone,
The midwinter it surest to be coldethst. And long.
Here's a compendium of the last decade of summers (in the south of England at least):
2003 – 80% sunshine May through August. Reasonable temperatures throughout. An ideal summer.
2004 – Very patchy. Early promise in May/June turned to heavy rainfall for much of July/August.
2005 – Inconsistent throughout. A few stretches of lovely weather but, generally, very unsettled. Reasonable August.
2006 – As above, can barely remember a cloudy/wet day from May through August. The odd shower here and there but otherwise constantly beautiful.
2007 – Decent May, awful for June and July. Heavy flooding round the Cotswolds etc. Beautiful August though, barely a drop of rain.
2008 – Pretty terrible. No real periods of good weather for any length. Recall it got down to under 10 degrees in August and through it down constantly. Awful summer.
2009 – Pretty much the same as 2005. Inconsistent, with few notable stretches of good weather.
2010 – May through July was glorious. 2003 esque. Weather fell off a cliff end of July though – rubbish August and Autumn.
2011 – Best spring in living memory turned into an absolute shitfest from June through August. Constantly wet and drab.
2012 – May was nice, June and July were horrendous. Wet, cold, awful. Cleared up just as the Olympics came leading to a lovely August. Too little too late ultimately.
Shittest: 2011 and 2012
Best: 2003 and 2006
Conclusive proof - weather is getting worse.
2008 was ATP vs Pitchfork and that weekend was utterly baking!
I'm not sure I trust you at all.
In any case, I'm not sure I recall this sustained 3-week period of good to UNBEARABLY FUCKING HOT weather for a long time. Maybe summer 1995.
I went to EITS in 2008 and it was ok. Sunday was a scorcher but Friday and Saturday were patchy.
June - August weren't very good.
then 2006. This summer will be either 1st, 2nd or 3rd over a whole summer. July certainly the hottest ever
I don't remember 2003 being THAT hot but maybe my recollection of 2006 is overly influenced by THAT week when it almost hit 40.
boy, were the leaves slightly oranger THAT year
I think it was maybe 2005. Nuts.
Might've been then.
Christmas Day 2012 was something crazy like 14 degrees where I was. Warmer than Easter Sunday this year that. Madness.
and then dreary and rainy all through July and August. That was a disappointing one.
