I've only just discovered that they actually do this.
Downloaded Fable last week, have never seen the offers before.
At least it was free
Still haven't played it.
have been really, really boring.
but I'll give it a go for free I guess.
Kind of seems Microsoft is really reluctant to copy Sony's Playstation Plus thing, these free games are a nice gesture but it only really draw more attention to how much better the Playstation offer is.
not that they're necessarily bad games but it seems so much like a reluctant token gesture in comparison to PS+ I can't see how it will either persuade people to subscribe/renew Gold, or give them any good publicity
it's just 4 or 5 different types of mission that you have to do over and over and over with some flimsy story to tie it together.
It's an Assassin's Creed game.
never really played Brotherhood as it looked too much like just more of the same
nice gesture but these deals compared steam/gog/greenman gaming and psn are pretty weak.
Yeah, Microsoft are behind other companies but, FREE GAMES
It's channel 5's movie every day all over again.
Not just to PS+ (but, yes, to that, big time) but there are some astonishingly high quality free (or F2P) games on PC these days.
"Free" isn't really the massive bonus it used to be.
Hoping that eventually there will be free indie/arcade games.
Plus the freebies so far have given me a chance to play games I had little interest in beforehand.
Fable just wasn't my cup of tea, Assassins Creed I can see myself liking.
that the isn't even a need for free to play games.... but here we are with Leauge Of Legends and Dota 2 which are currently 2 of the most popular games and they're free to play.
You have to pay a fee to have access to them. Massively discount I suppose. I know that's the same for PS, but at least with them you can go online for free, so the premium has to be more 'worth it' to get people into it iyswim.
if this sort of thing is still going when it comes round to renewing it loses that freebie tag as it'll be part of the package when you're weighing up the cost benefits.
PS+ stuff isn't at all free as you're paying specifically for those games via a subscription, and as you have to be currently subscribed to access them you're only ever renting them anyway (I believe you keep the free XBL games even if you don't renew your Gold subs)
if you keep access to your games even after your subscription ends you could easily just sign up for the minimal period to download something specific you want - maybe even using one of those free 24/48 hour Gold codes - so they aren't getting much cash from you or locking you into their system.
*I've not checked the terms on this offer, although I don't recall having seen any minimum subscription length requirement.
a more eloquently put and in depth version of my point, which I didn't make that well. :/
