I got to thinking about him when I was reading Louis_Tacceh's thread about looking after his dog - I was thinking that marilyninthesky might turn out to be a Jack Nicholson-type character who the dog won't want to leave. Then I thought about Greg Kinnear for a few minutes, checked his Wikipedia entry to make sure I hadn't missed any classics he'd been in, wrote the OP and hit post. Only a short while later, here we are.
but I didn't really get it - entertaining enough, but seemed fairly run-of-the-mill. I should probably watch it again though, it's years since I saw it.
Give Mystery Men a shot. Hank Azaria, William H. Macy, Geoffrey Rush, Wes Studi, Tom Waits, Janeane Garofalo, Eddie Izzard, Ben Stiller, Kel from off of Kenan & Kel, Pee Wee Herman, it's a bizarre cast. Really nicely shot, a lot of very weird lighting and big distorted camera angles. William H. Macy hits people with a shovel. It's a bit scattershot but really likeable.
Come to think of it, I thought he was pretty good in The Prestige actually. Can't think of anything aside from that though. Not a Wolverine/X-Men fan and I hated The Fountain. :(
I love that film something fierce. Again, he's not exactly the star, but he's in the ensemble.
I like King Of New York too. Again, not "his" film, but he's in that one a lot more prominently. And, as below, I still think he's great in Boyz N The Hood and it's a decent film.
he's Sid in Ice Age which is one of the biggest cartoon franchises ever, and he was Golden Globe nominated for To Wong Foo, Thanks for Everything! Julie Newmar
I've never seen them so I'm not going to say they're great, but I need to no more evidence to state my case for John Leguizamo's talents or popularity.
All that tells you is (surprise surprise) kids under 10 will pretty much watch ANYTHING. This is also why you can't really tell how good a popular band/artist's later songs are by sales alone because, YES, there will be a huge fanbase who'll buy it without giving a damn how much they actually like it.
Yeah, if you're JACK BLACK and so your name goes right above the credits. But how many people immediately think of Toy Story when they scrabble to find Tom Hanks roles they like?
I mean, I love HIMYM so I would say that's a good role, but a lot of people don't and his films are generally underwhelming. But I'd love to have a drink with him.
Sydney: You get home safe, Pistol.
Peter: You got it, Joben.
Sydney: I'm sorry, what?
Peter: Er...nothing.
Sydney: No, what did you say?
Peter: Nah, I don't know. You nicknamed me Pistol, and I just called you..."Joben". It means nothing. I don't...I'm drunk, I'm gonna call a cab.
Like the slappa da bass scene is clearly partially improvised and dragged out, and Rashida Jones totally corpses at the end, but they keep it in and it just adds a lot of warmth and personality to it.
My sister saw him on a train once.
Thought you might like to know.
I did want to know!
Where? If she sees him again, please get her to pass on that a man on the internet likes him (but doesn't think his films are particularly great).
I will, she's already been briefed. She's printed a link to this thread on a business card.
it was a few years ago somewhere between London and Brighton(he's the guy with the dog in as Good as it Gets... I hope).
Yes he is.

Little Miss Sunshine is an indie classic, surely?
People seem to love it
but I didn't really get it - entertaining enough, but seemed fairly run-of-the-mill. I should probably watch it again though, it's years since I saw it.
I'd agree with you.
I'd also say that As Good As It Gets is a decent film, all in all.
john cusack
jeff goldblum
John Cusack's a fucking disaster.
Goldblum was in Jurassic Park, therefore doesn't fit the criteria.
not really a great acting role though is it
Read the thread title, I could barely be any more explicit about the thread rules.
oh right
I really like grosse point blank so I guess both my answers are now void
High Fidelity is great too.
I'm going to throw in CON AIR.
and Being John Malkovich, Say Anything, The Thin Red Line
In other words: Ding Dong, you berk.
Oh yeah, BJM. Bust mostly CON AIR, AMIRITE?
Yeah, Cusack's been in good films.
I just don't like him - he's completely anonymously and replaceable. I'm almost certain he'll never have been first choice for any role in his life.
*anonymous
Anonymous was a terrible film and no walked out that with any respect.
Yep, can't believe I forgot Con Air.
There's just so much awesomeness in that, I forget about John Cusack as well.
I was thinking he's not been in a film which showcases him as a great actor
he's been in plenty of good films
Say Anything?
hello, how are you?
marmite and philadelphia sandwiches shouldn't work,
but boy, do they?!
I enjoy the film Mystery Men
even though it's a total, shambolic mess. Kinnear is great in that.
Great film! So much to love in it.
Never seen it
but if Kinnear's in it, I'll watch it. The Matador was quite good as well, but flawed.
Yeah, I liked The Matador

Ryan Reynolds
Jennifer Anniston
office space
Yeah I really like the film but her role is pretty dull
Literally the only good part she's had.
Hugh Jackman
He strikes me as a really nice chap but nearly every film he's been in has been rubbish.
Wrong
Les Mis is great.
Still haven't seen it
Come to think of it, I thought he was pretty good in The Prestige actually. Can't think of anything aside from that though. Not a Wolverine/X-Men fan and I hated The Fountain. :(
Les Mis and The Presitge?
The Prestige is awful
No, you're wrong.
No, your opinion of films is what is actually awful here!
ok
More like thewrong
Angelina Jolie
John Hannah
The Stath
I know a guy who hit John Hannah with a golf ball (while golfing)
I just think of Sliding Doors when I see John Hannah
fuck that
I think about sliding doors into his head
wrong: cranks 1 and 2 are amazing
actually lock stock is genuinely great
Yeah, actually you're right. Lock Stock is good.
Crank 1 is the only one I've seen and it was an interesting exercise in something...but I honestly don't think it can count as a good film.
Jason Statham might just be my favourite actor
EVERY movie he's in is shit, in a conventional sense, but I've never not enjoyed one. Even Transporter 3
don't watch Death Race then
it'll spoil it
Because it's actually good?
(It is).
omg how can you be so wrong about films
Chill out thewarn.
Angelina Jolie was really good in A Mighty Heart
Laurence Fishburne
Do you have some sort of Apocalypse Now warnism?
Oh come on.
He has about 2 lines of dialogue.
As well hold that one up for Harrison Ford too.
Ridic.
Rumble Fish?
I love that film something fierce. Again, he's not exactly the star, but he's in the ensemble.
I like King Of New York too. Again, not "his" film, but he's in that one a lot more prominently. And, as below, I still think he's great in Boyz N The Hood and it's a decent film.
The MAtrix
Boyz in Da Hood
Event Horizon
C'mon, they're all great roles
Matrix: shit
Event Horizon: can't really remember him in it
Boyz n the hood: FURIOUS STYLES! Yeah, fair enough.
Great thread
Zach Galfianikis
Paul Giamatti
(except Sideways, which is ace)
and
Bernard Hill (except LOTR, which is ace)
John Leguizamo
Rome + Juliet and Moulin Rouge! are both great (I think),
he's Sid in Ice Age which is one of the biggest cartoon franchises ever, and he was Golden Globe nominated for To Wong Foo, Thanks for Everything! Julie Newmar
One of the biggest cartoon franchises ever!
big wow
It's the 11th biggest film franchise of all time, and the second biggest animated film franchise of all time (bigger than Toy Story).
I've never seen them so I'm not going to say they're great, but I need to no more evidence to state my case for John Leguizamo's talents or popularity.
Yes but they're films for a non-discerning audience.
I mean they don't have to be massively well made to be intensely popular. They're critically mostly panned on Rotten Tomatoes:
http://www.rottentomatoes.com/search/?search=ice+age&sitesearch=rt
whereas that's not the case for Toy Story.
All that tells you is (surprise surprise) kids under 10 will pretty much watch ANYTHING. This is also why you can't really tell how good a popular band/artist's later songs are by sales alone because, YES, there will be a huge fanbase who'll buy it without giving a damn how much they actually like it.
Oh, I'm sure they're total bollocks,
I'm just trying to make the case that Leguziamo is not especially underrated.
I don't think the voice talent tends to be recognised much for these things.
Yeah, if you're JACK BLACK and so your name goes right above the credits. But how many people immediately think of Toy Story when they scrabble to find Tom Hanks roles they like?
scrabble? Scramble? Hmm...
I like him in Spun
The film's a huge mess, but I like how wired and amateurish it is. Fits the subject matter.
Carlito's Way?
Jason Segal.
I mean, I love HIMYM so I would say that's a good role, but a lot of people don't and his films are generally underwhelming. But I'd love to have a drink with him.
Wait, I Love You Man is brilliant.
I SLAPPA DA BASS.
I lasted about 10 minutes of I Love You Man.
How the fuck people who I thought had some taste like it I will never know.
It's brilliant you berk.
Well it definitely isn't in the first 10 minutes.
it's not
it's pure pish
WRONG. Two great, warm comedic performances, AND Lou Ferrigno.
I don't...I'm drunk, I'm gonna call a cab.
fuck you hulk!
Stop calling me hulk! I find it very disrespectful!
You probably had to be there...
...with your brain taking a relaxing bath at home.
felt like there were lots of places in the script where they just thought 'we'll leave this bit blank and do a joke when we're filming'
all the improv-y bits were just awkward and shit
Those are the kind of bits I like.
Like the slappa da bass scene is clearly partially improvised and dragged out, and Rashida Jones totally corpses at the end, but they keep it in and it just adds a lot of warmth and personality to it.
Oh yeah, him and Paul Rudd
the greatest interview of all time...
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=I4ix1HSzpWE
Jason Segal and Neal Patrick Harris singing the confrontation scene from Les Mis is amazing too.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EhXsJjVdj1E
All those guys seem lovely.
FUCK
Been looking for this one for ages. Thank you! Remember seeing it years ago and chuckling like an absolute lunatic throughout.
"Now you're Gideon..."
Mark Strong has appeared in some crap (good stuff too tbf)
but he always adds a touch of class. Even to Fever Pitch
Maybe Peter Sarsgard
I like Jarhead and Shattered Glass but he's definitely been in a lot of films below his station.
An Education?
Shit English accent, but good movie.
Poor Pete

Boys Don't Cry?
Lane Smith
David Morse
will second John Leguizamo
Colm Meany
<3 'That guy' characters.
Lane Smith?
Surely My Cousin Vinny!!!
exception to the rule
David Morse is in The Rock and The Green Mile.
Con Air you shit
reply to my thread you shit
http://drownedinsound.com/community/boards/social/4433294
I don't have any interest in such films, sorry, you shit.
Did you buy the Night Marchers album, you shit?
Oh sorry, bloody mobile mode. I thought you were responding to my David Morse point.
we warned you about linear view theo,
but you wouldn't listen.
Fix.
Jack Nicholson
You don't like The Shining, One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest or Batman?
(I mean, to pick three pretty different popular films he's been in.)
She's playing you Theo, playing you like an absolute fiddle.
You're forgetting his timeless role in the 1996 crime thriller Blood and Wine.
I've got the witches of eastwick taped
should I watch it?
erm, The Bucket List?
He turned into a parody of himself later on,
but he's incredible in Easy Rider.
Janeane Garafalo
(I quite liked the Truth About Cats and Dogs...)
See Mystery Men above... a cult classic?
Giovanni Ribisi
No, Lost in Translation doesn't count.
SubUrbia was decent
quite like Boiler Room
^Underrated film
Also a strong Affleck cameo and a decent Vin Diesel performance
Anna Faris
Always seems like so much fun. Has been in so much shit.
Although, Just Friends was great and a lot of that was down to her.
No, Lost in Translation doesn't count.
Heather Graham
I generally find most of the films she's been in pretty average, I like her style though (I also liked her cameo in Portlandia).
Swingers? Boogie Nights?
fairplay
her recent output has been pretty MOR though.
Austin Powers 2.
andie macdowell
groundhog day!!
