present your theories please.
Enjoying it lots. The water is increasingly key I think. It's throughout the intro and causing the blackouts. Time will tell I guess.
Like the whole resurrection question. Russell T Davies asked the same questions in Second Coming and it's an interesting point; millions of people believe in Christs resurrection but would think ghosts or zombies to be far fetched madness. Good to see their faith questioned.
Camille / Alice is pretty evil eh?
Also, French mums in these things are always stupidly attractive.
Not sure if I really have any theories.
I think like many people I imagined that "Victor" was key in some way but now I'm not so sure. Although he was there causing the coach crash four years ago.
I don't think we know about previous returns, do we? In Episode 2 after Simon visited Adele's home, there was a reference about something happening again in an exchange between Adele and Thoma - but in retrospect that might just be about an episode she had leading up to her suicide attempt, idk.
Clearly, Jerome isn't as guilty as Claire thinks he is. At least, I don't want him to be. It's Camille that Lena blames the wound for.
The whole thing about Lucy being a medium seems really interesting.
between two guys who I didn't recognise about what they did 'last time'..?
So the cop saw his own face on Simon's body?
And the Helping Hand guy apparently spoke to Victor using the same words as the guy whose friend killed him..?
It's all unspeakably dreamy and intriguing, fuck knows what's going on, they're kind of steadily ramping up the tension without adding new elements now, so I guess lots of things are about to start happening. A British remake seems broadly pointless.
They were operatives at the dam. I think we've seen at least one of them before. And they did say something similar to that.
Victor must have returned at least three years ago, certainly before the others.
He seems to have some sort of strange link to the killer, though it's hard to exactly see what that could be.
Difficult to work out at this stage whether the 'hallucinations' (the cop seeing his own head on Simon's body, the doctor seeing the killer who then turned into Victor) are 'real' or not.
Was there the top of, like, a sunken church or civic building starting to be revealed as the reservoir dropped..?
How many are there?
from Channel 4 & the guy who wrote Shameless. hmmm.
I know it happens in the US all the time but I thought there was a history of UK audiences being accepting of foreign TV and not needing to have it repackaged and spoonfed to us.
I firmly believe that their intelligence and sophistication is routinely underestimated by the networks.
it'll have been made three times then, they should just write a better idea
Given that the show is currently already showing on 4 coupled with the push they've given it
and the Steig Larsson films too... it'll probably be alright, but it's a bit depressing that the success of The Returned seems to have begat a load of clones of The Returned, rather than more adventurous programming in general.
It was a fairly niche BBC4 show that did well out of word of mouth, so making a mainstream version at primetime for newcomers was a fairly ok idea.
But The Returned is already on primetime on a major channel? Surely the remake will be pretty much play out to the same people?
Not as depressing as that programme Phil Spencer Secret Agent though. That is the worst show EVER. IT DOESN'T EVEN HAVE AN ENDING?!?!
Victor wasn't dead when he caused the bus crash, he had just strayed from his family who were then tracked down by grieving dad Jerome and Tissier and shot to death as retribution.
Lena's scar is the wound that killed Camille in the bus crash?
WHY THE FUCK IS THE UNDERPASS STILL OPEN?? You'd think the police would at least have some men watching it considering Lucy was attaked just a few nights ago and the killer is still at large, and now Lena has just wandered in. Fuck sake that's really pissed me off. "Hey Franck, you think the killer might strike in the underpass again? Maybe we should keep an eye on it or close it the public?" "Nah I think we'll let young girls continue to use it in the middle of the night, what's the worst that could happen?"
but maybe just help her up and take her to hospital.
Re: the underpass. I was screaming at the telly saying the same thing. Don't reckon he'll be interested in Lena though. Too easy.
So I guess the Helping Hand priest man was a young lad when that went down.
INTERESTING NOTE THOUGH - Mrs Costa apparently died 35 years ago, and she was in the Helping Hand, and seemed to recognise Victor.
Kind of playing Devil's advocate about the underpass, but 1) actually only two people have definitely been attacked there in seven years 2) wonder if something else is going on, like the killer's a manifestation kind of attached to the underpass...
Is The Returned really something designed to have the audience looking for clues and attempting to 'solve' the case as presented? I can't say I've watched much French or European TV but this seems very character driven, with the plot more of an incidental vehicle. Is that typical of TV that isn't heavily influenced by the US?
I don't really have any theories on what's happening but I don't feel like the show has been geared towards me or other views developing any.
Where's Lena? Oh she's in the Lake Pub.
Think the owner at the Lake Pub might need a hand.
Saw a photo at the Lake Pub.
Where have you been? The Lake Pub.
We get it already. Man alive, then dead, now seemingly alive again.
He was wearing the same outfit as he does in the show, meaning he's either doing a photoshoot here, only has one smelly suit or is actually a ghost
I could look at that guy all day.
With a swagger too. Famous good looking bastard.
I sometimes find myself spontaneously shouting out 'HE'S SO HANDSOME!' when he appears and Joe gets progressively more annoyed.
like a cross French Doctor Who.
that's very exciting.
I'd like to think he was off to catch the 19:30 to Catford Bridge via Nunhead but suspect he was about to go on the Eurostar...
Can't entirely work out why/how yet though. Worried we won't get any closure at the end of the First Season.
*SPOILERS FOR PEOPLE WHO'VE NOT SEEN EPISODE 4 YET*
I'm also guessing that Lena is not actually about to be murdered.
because surely the actor playing Victor will be too old to reprise the role in the second series..?
