So much fun.
What older programmes are you marathon-ing atm?
My favourite character is Giles but Anya's extremely underrated...
and always wished i'd kept up with it, and doctor who has just not been doing it for me lately in the perpetually unresolved mystery stakes. the heavy-handed EMOTIONAL CHARACTER BITS are rubbish, but it is still quite compulsive watching
i never watched buffy properly either and it's on my list
Possibly my fave tv show ever. Favourite episode: Hush. Favourite big bad: the Mayor. Favourite character: Spike.
Spike and Anya are probably my favourites.
Its weird, I only got into it last summer while I was stuck on campus after everyone else had left, but now it seems like I've been watching it all my life. Its probably my favourite TV show ever.
On a side note, I'm pretty sure everyone says this when Buffy is discussed, but Angel is hugely underrated/underappreciated I think too (the TV show, not the character, but actually yeah, probably the character too). Some of my favourite Buffyverse moments came from that show ("Numfar! Do the dance of joy!"), and I think I'm in love with Fred.
I'm not sure about S3 and S4 with Pete Campbell as his son. Those are patchy.
S5 has that episode Smile Time, which may be the best episode to have aired in the Buffy-verse.
the end of S3 is pretty great, i can't remember much of any of it though.
I definitely enjoyed the Conner seasons a lot more on a 3rd run through than I did the first time round.
Smile Time is brilliant, of course, but there are a couple of Buffy eps that better it.
The Pylea episodes at the end of series 2 are pure gold.
Fave character: Anya
It's still brilliant. Sure it has some low points (Dawn is a bit of a spare part after the season she is introduced, season 6 is sub par) but for the most part it's great fun, there are some fantastic villains and it's a joy to revisit.
Favourite characters for me would be Spike and Giles, though I certainly agree that Anya is undervalued. Oh and props to Amber Benson as Tara, she was given one of the more forgettable characters but, despite Anya's literal show stealing, really shines in the fabulous musical episode.
Other favourite episodes would of course include Hush, the one where all the characters have their memories erased and try to figure out their relationships from first principles and the one where they become the characters in their costumes. Oh and anything with Glory, what a fantastic and threatening Big Bad she was.
As for Angel, he's a fairly annoying character when good, much more fun as an evil, manipulative shit. The Angel show is ace though, although you do get the sense that the plotline in the last couple of seasons was rushed through and was somewhat disappointing, though the presence of Spike somewhat made up for it. Need to give the whole thing a rewatch, only seen it once.
I remember wanting to cave my own skull in when she died and the camera panned to the inscription on her gravestone.
I did the same thing most recently about two years ago. Both are brilliant, obviously, but in retrospect Angel is a fantastic show which rarely gets the props it deserves. The arc it gives Wesley may be my favourite character arc in the whole saga.
My favourite Anya moment (since everyone is all about the Anya love) is in Selfless, when they juxtapose the silly subtitled flashbacks of her village life with her present day descent into murderous vengeancing. Season 7 may have been patchy and too insistent on 'darker' themes but that was a great episode.
that last episode is flipping incredible (even if a chunk of that last season is patchy, though still OK). Need to get a copy of and rewatch Fire Walk With Me now.
First theres the whole misunderstanding with the baby, and then, just as he makes amends with everyone and finally gets the girl that he wants, she gets taken over by an ancient demon, and a few episodes later he dies.
*spolier* the episode where baby conner gets taken into an unreachable hell dimension and wesley is left with his throat cut was so so dark, I remember watching it in its ridiculous channel 4 late night slot rather than DVD, felt a bit traumatised having to wait until the next episode
Big fan of Spike, especially his interactions with Joyce, Dawn and Andrew. I'd probably say Xander is my favourite, although props to Anya for pretty much stealing every scene.
Favourite episodes - Bad Girls, Who Are You?, Tabula Rasa, Normal Again, Helpless, Restless.
Angel was always better in his own series than in Buffy. the brooding 'woe is me' thing got boring in Buffy, but in his own show, it seemed more dark comedy/tragic and I actually warmed a lot more to the character.
who wants to touch me?
and Spike obviously. Such an amazing programme.
My favourite episodes tend to be the ones without vampires, with more inventive monsters. Rewatched the one recently where the swimming team all turn into evil mermen, so great.
It's been a few years since I watched the whole thing through, might start it again soon. Season 4 is my favourite, despite Riley. When Spike gets neutered with that chip thing he's hilarious.
What are you all doing RESTING?! Let's get out there!
That's this episode: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Doomed_%28Buffy_the_Vampire_Slayer%29
Just finished the first series and looking forward to the next 2 because, if I remember, it really hit its stride before going a bit wonky. Great programme.
Am I fuck.
watch the whole of the final season on DVD in one day. A lot of episodes, a lot of fun. A great show. Willow when she was all cute and a book-ish indie type was my favourite. I didn't like evil Willow. Spike had some great one liners also.
but then i downloaded all nine series of The X Files instead. Halfway through series 2. X Files > Buffy
he's brilliant when he's evil, brilliant when he's good and he's funny. And pretty.
I really like the relationship between him and Faith
Anyone read the season 8 comic? It starts off really well and buffy ish but descends into the biggest mess I've ever read, really awful
but I heard some of the storylines and they did NOT sound like Buffy at all.
it is a shame the deluxe hardcover editions are so nice but the arc really is abysmal. the first half or so is probably worth reading though.
I think they've realised how bad it was, there is a post script at the end by whedon about how they are gonna reign it back in for season 9 so I might give it another chance
I may give it a bash then. I'm not really a comic book reader and I would rather see it on the screen but that isn't really going to happen so I shall settle for comics.
there is always the 'motion comic' dvd http://www.amazon.co.uk/Buffy-Vampire-Slayer-Season-Motion/dp/B004PYCZQO but i've heard the voice actors are really ropey
Until he turned into a controlling prick.
but his curtains let him down.
another Anya vote for favourite character, I like Andrew as well, and Giles. Season three is probably my favourite season of any show, though I think season 2 has the most essential episodes
that scene in season 7 where Buffy takes him to the hell mouth :')
