The Fratellis - Chelsea Dagger
The Holloways - Generator
The Kooks - Naive
What else you got?
My least favourite song.
actually tells a decent story, for once with that kind of thing
Three replies in, a record.
That was a great record.
Just ruined by terrible nasal vocals.
Seems a common malaise in a lot of bands I actually like, i.e. the Smashing Pumpkins
but that and She Moves In Her Own Way are a great pair of singles. Simple, sweet songs that don't try to be anything else.
what the songs are 'trying to be'. Beady Eye songs fall into the category you described. The opposite to that is supposedly pretentious stuff...I usually prefer that kind of thing.
Obviously that's the B-52's.
Or the Style Council... shit joke alert, creativity running on empty
I always took it to mean something that was incredibly popular but crushingly obvious/dull to us snobbish musos.
But a mate said he'd assumed it was stuff that had been massively unpopular, hence filling up a landfill.
Most of what's been put here goes with the former, right?
it was all those uninspired generic indie bands which were popular around 2004-2006ish: Kooks, Wombats, Pigeon Detectives and the like.
I always assumed The Cribs were a landfill indie band because of when they were big and the ubiquitous presence of Ryan Jarman in NME and on tv, and their crap name. But I've just got their greatest hits and it's really ace and lo-fi and punk and funny.
but yeah when their first album came out I assume the same thing
I think they got gradually shitter. Them getting Johnny Marr involved was one of the nails in the coffin. The tune that starts with "have ya noticed I've never been impressed" was the final nail.
and the first single on their best album
oh god little man tate
Just chuck in some nahs and some rubies...
Wombats - Let's Dance To Joy Division
Joe Lean And The Jing Jang Jong
Still my favourite Killers song.
but it just makes me think of "and I found out, BINGO" . . . . anyone?
"lalala" bit of Chelsea Dagger stuck in my head *vom*
Skip To My Lou in an 80s computer game samba style, courtesy of fucking Fisher Price Jungle Gym Playmat.
my ear worms these days are usually thanks to The Wiggles.
Keane, Ordinary Boys, Futureheads
in with two of the worst there.
My Life Story
Gorky's Zygotic Minki
3 Colours Red
. . .
It could make quite an awesome playlist
I remember the excitement when one of their songs made the top 20
with one album
The Hours - Like Ali In The Jungle
Vincent Vincent & The Villains - On My Own
The Rumble Strips - Girls & Boys In Love
The Wombats - Anti D
Jack Penate - Torn On The Platform
I'll get my coat
Good Shoes - All In My Head
Worried the early albums, i.e. It would be a bit "landfill", but give them a chance..
It's also too good, but that's just my (hashtagcorrect) opinion.
That makes Israel and Palestine, get along
DIE YOUR HAIR BLACK
NEVER LOOK BACK
IS MY BUSINESS
recorded a song called "I Wanna Be Johnny Dean." I thought that fact was relevant to this thread.
I WANNA BE JOHNNY DEAN
STEPPIN OUT WITH A BRITPOP QUEEN
Post-Sex on Fire their wretched early efforts seem to be frequently overlooked, NEVER FORGIVE NEVER FORGET. Zane Lowe probably had this as his ringtone at the time.
What a song
remember them? Eh? Eh?
and thus his wallet says that he never needs to care what you or I think. :)
and rapidly became one of the worst bands mentioned in this thread.
I think their singer went down for assault as well.
the Zutons messageboard staged an invasion of ours.
'Whistle For the Choir' by The Fratellis but it has a zero popularity rating on Spotify :-(
Spotify obviously broken.
The Coral - Pass It On
It was re-released about 4 times!
but can't explain seemed more landfill-y
I actually like both songs, guiltily.
whatever that may have been
The Holloways - Generator
Pigeon Detectives - I'm Not Sorry
Les Incompetents - How It All Went Wrong
Larrikin Love - Happy as Annie
Mumm-Ra – She's Got You High
but... I couldn't find anything particular to love about them. The Rifles, on the other hand... I downright hated them halfway thru the first verse of whatever 'single' came on the radio.
Which, for my sins, I love.
The Von Bondies
and Trains To Brazil (?) by Guillemots is good
