If there was a fire alarm at your place of work, what would you take with you?
We all know that health and safety nonsense about getting out as quickly as you can and leaving everything behind, but it's just not true. If the alarm went right now, what would you save?
I'd put me coat on for sure, maybe not get my bag as that's a bit needy, but pocket my headphones on my desk, just in case it is a real fire. And I'd definitely grab the Kit-Kat chunky from my drawer. Screw you The Man, I'm rescuing my chocolate.
coat and bag
oh, and keys
Too late, they're ash now.
keys are in my bag.
with all my other personal belongings. all the stuff on my desk is work based. it would be shame if i lost some of the things but only if i was sat at my desk. if my desk had burned to the ground i wouldnt be able to sit at it, and so wouldnt give a shit.
except for my 'DO NOT DISTURB, Hangover in progress' sign.
Phone is probably the only thing I'd instinctively grab if it was an actual fire.
If it was a drill / non-life threatening at the time then I'd grab my bag too.
coat & phone
wallets usually in my coat as are headphones.
If this place ever burns down, its gonna take a lot of employees with it. the 'refuge' place where you all stand and register or whatever is only 100 yards away from a 15 storey building :|
Jacky
he's only small, so easy to carry, but he's got very little common sense and could easily die by running into fire.
My phone
and that's it. Nothing else. A guy was given a disciplinary last month for picking up his jacket during a drill.
that's absolutely fucking ridiculous
Not really.
It is in the "Golden Rules" part of the agreement to work here, like holding the hand rail, a lid on your cup of tea, or stuff like that.
So, a pointless rule the
o
then?*
wait, a lid on your cup of tea? Either you're an infant, or you work somewhere that isn't an ordinary office environment(?)
We work in a working enviroment that is policed by the same rules that occur whilst offshore
and a lot of the rules here are behavioural saftey rules.
Look, I am not making this HSE stuff up.
Not saying you're making anything up
Just saying that for an ordinary office environment, being disciplined for picking up your jacket is ridiculous. Yours might be a special case.
I hadn't thought it was until now
think about this clearly
bunch of people who sometimes work offshore. Do you either:
a) get them to stick to a process that keeps them safe in both environments or
b) allow them to change procedure when not offshore, thus risking mistakes when they are?
There you go.
hence it's a special case
like I said.
my hair
phone, wallet, coat's on the way out anyway
I'm a lot less diligent with fire alarms now that I work somewhere that isn't filled with thousands of litres of flammable solvents (and worse).
nothing
my life is at stake
bag's under desk, coat is hanging on my exit route
grabbing them both adds about 2 seconds to my departure. Not letting my stuff burn up, thx. Don't understand why anybody would leave it behind (assuming it's within a few metres reach, rather than in a different part of the building).
KISS mug, plastic rat and balancing eagle
cheers
My high-visibility tabard, clipboard and personnel list.
congratulations!
Coat and headphones.
I'd also take the time to lob my work laptop into the fire.
Well if they're just leaving fire alarms lying about I might as well have one
My bag is just behind me.
I'm wearing me scarfy.
My coat is on the way out.
And I'd quickly grab my emergency Freddo supply from my drawer.
And I'd make sure Ruth got out safe. <3 <3 <3 Ruth.
Did not mean to write 'scarfy'
we had a drill the other day and i forgot to take anything
And also three kids were missing whom were all from my class.
what about people? can i tell you which people i'd save?
it's all well and good making hypothetical plans
But when it actually happens you'll do the same as everyone else: token shout of "GET OUT!" At anyone who's too shocked to move then get to the nearest exit as quickly as possible while trampling weaker people into the increasingly warm ground.
what about megan?
fuck Megan, it's everyone for themselves
i would like to
my newton's cradle, stress ball
and my mug which says 'you don't have to be mad to work here, but it helps!'
We had a drill last week, I took my phone and coat.
As I was walking out I passed someone carrying their cup of tea and instantly regretted not taking my tea with me. I'd only just made it and it was cold by the time we were allowed back in.
Carrying open containers of liquids during a fire drill is a serious safety risk
*adjusts spectacles*
could be handy if it's water
Richard - Oi Trace mind your head
*Richard throws a Sports Direct mug of cool crisp water at a small fire that has spread across the emergency exit doors. The flames are extinguished*
Richard - There you go Trace.
Tracey - Cheers Richard, do you want a go on my boobs?
Richard -(looking off into the distance) Not now Trace, not now.
