Why was it slated by the critics? Absolutely excellent film, even without the nostalgia factor.
It's magical. I'm happy that I was a 90s child. We had such better films than either of the previous decades kids did, and I'd say the latter too - just before tacky CGI took over.
80s had loads of great films
stuff like tron, labyrinth, neverending story, willow, legend (all terrible) dated terribly over like 10 years. admittedly all the 80s action films were superb if you were lucky enough to have older siblings who owned them on video. but most the kids films looked crap by the early mid 90s. like the starfighter one where the kid becomes a spaceman etc.
for kids weaned on Jurassic Park and Hook, these films looked so naff. (will let you have the goonies and ghostbusters).
The. Princess. Bride.

get a grip
best simile ever
Avatar: The Legend of Aang (the greatest modern Western cartoon series evereeverver I might add). I fucking hated Rufio as a kid.
Still don't know if I like Hook. I mean it's total shit but it has thingy in it as Hook which is rad.
this is it Smee, my finger's on the trigger. dont try to stop me this time, don't try to stop me Smee, don't you DARE try to stop me Smee try to stop me...Smee you better get up off your arse and get over here...this is not a JOKE, I'M COMMITTING SUICIDE!
Hoffman was magic.
has it got geena davies in it, or is that the other one?
It's beautiful. It still looks good and has aged well, like Jurassic Park.
the only good bits are the dustin hoffman bits.
but it feels like I played a game of it rather than watched the film
It is a brilliant film. Was it really slated by ver critix?
