Paris recommendations?
Off for a last minute romantic break, neither of us have ever been but we're just going for a long weekend so obviously we're going to do whatever the DiS community tells us to do...

THAT FIRST ONE
that was easy
Just thinking ive been to Paris with five guys who post on dis
Does anyone want to go to Paris with me?
Statistically someone always will
dîner?
This is officially the only nice place in Paris:

So go there.
that looks gorgeous
picnic there I reckon. Thanks PocketMouse!
I love that parc
also, due to being skint student layabouts
we're staying quite far out, about 2 or 3 km south of Jardin du Luxembourg...the metro is cheap though, right? is it quick or are we going to hate being so far out of town?
only mugs get taxis in paris
that includes from the airport/train stations
the metro is very fast and inexpensive (especially in comparison to other modes of transport) although certain lines are always busy.
are you both under 26?

least romantic place in the world, sorry
as romatic as london
unless you stick to €€€€€ places
gotta be better than Levenshulme.
We're off to Belgium in a couple of months and then inter-railing at the end of summer so this isn't the biggie!
stay vigillant, do some reading up on scams to avoid if you're thinking of visiting any of the big tourist pulls
hundreds of people about who support themselves soley from ripping off tourists. can't stress enough that you need to just walk away if anyone suspicious starts talking to you. looking down helps but obviously you won't want to look at the ground in paris of all places.
like anyone else, i know lots of people whos holidays have been ruined (hasn't happened to me once whenever i've stayed there for whatever periods of time, you just need to exude confidence).
obviously these people tend to operate by tourist attractions. aside from straight up theft and begging, here are two particular, well-known scams: http://blink.hdrinc.com/gold-ring and http://www.outandaboutinparis.com/2011/06/bracelet-guys-near-sacre-coeur.html
Jesus Christ it's not that fucking bad
Aye, aside from getting stung for breakfast in the hotel (my fault)
I wouldn't complain about anything of this sort - don't think there were even as many beggars as in London. A guy asked me to buy a rose which I politely declined. I think that's par for the course though.
wasn't when i lived there
but everyone else i know HATES PARIS for this reason
besides it being full of itself, and not even in the top 5 cities in france, obvs

you must go to Shakespeare & Co bookshop.
it is brilliant.
Not this!
Totally average independent bookshop except with a 25% mark up on the prices, run by a thousand charmless hipsters who are there in Paris to work on the novel. If I was a 21 year old hipster working there I'd love it, and I'm sure it was great when Hemingway hang out there (although that was an entirely different shop), but as it is its a bit of a tourist trap, and not a very nice place to buy books.
My recommendation is a falafel place in the Jewish district just north of those islands in the Seine. You'll know the one because it will have a massive queue. Totally worth it.
L'As Du Falafel
Shakespeare and co is fucking shit. Go to a good record shop instead
the indiepointsometer's going crazy here, lads.
Stop pretending you know what you're talking about
i've been to Paris.
i've been to that shop.
/thread.
Then you'll know that it represents everything which is terrible about Paris (tm)
It's tourist bucket list fodder, it has zero charm and is tediously expensive even for over here and it's just not a very well run or nice place. Enjoy your coffee at Les Deux Magots afterwards.
by Paris standards...
i didn't find it all that much of a rip-off.
to be honest, i found the whole city both, to use your words, tediously expsive and charmless.
* spelt right, obviously.
maybe we'll head to Chorlton instead
it's a shame all the threads are fucked from 2+ years ago so you could get some half decent recommendations
its shit though
who goes book shopping for ENGLISH BOOKS (fair enough if you're picking a few up in french instead of getting them imported - i've done this loads) in paris.
Soufflecontinu

Bimbo tower

Born Bad
http://www.bornbad.fr/
I dunno.
I went there. A total tourist, but whatever. The guy offered me a free Orwell book if I could guess the year it was published. That's pretty cool wherever you are.
Marche aux puces d la Porte de Vanves
http://pucesdevanves.typepad.com/
Chez Gladines for great Basque cuisine
http://www.timeout.com/paris/en/restaurants/chez-gladines
Take a boat trip on the Seine (bateaux mouches) at dusk and watch the city light up.
vanves is good
it's smaller than clignancourt but if you're just going for a weekend it's worth it because whats the actual point of trapsing around all of the absolute shite.
Chez gladines is good but it's gotten too popular and the quality has declined
Try Le bistrot des oies on rue Marie Louise
Montreuil has a good flea market too
I swear the Eiffel Tower wobbles
you're not allowed up when it's windy
Where else is good
The river?
bump
The catacombs are cool.
